Poem: The Sky Today

...a sad poem from my files...

The Sky Today

The sky, today,
is dark with clouds.
The sun is hidden well.
And though
I have the heat turned up,
the chill
I can’t dispel!
The gloomy day
has taken hold-
seems settled in to stay.
All things of cheer-
all sunny thoughts-
have all
been chased away!
…But is it just the
sunless day
that chills me to the core?
…Or fear that I have lost you -
will not see you anymore?

Poem: What Do You See?

...another poem of pondering life...

What Do You See?

What do you see when you look at me?
Does my spirit show?
Is it shining through?

Or is it buried beneath layers of apathy?
Have I lost sight of what is real
- of what is true?

Tell me, I implore, my friend.
Do you see love and feelings there?

…Enthusiasm and joy for living?
…Or, are my heart and my soul - frigid and bare?

Have I relinquished, to whims of others,
myself - my individuality?

From my vantage point it’s hard to determine,
just, precisely, how much is left of me!

-One more winter post from me!

Seeing Joy's Bird Flu pic in her recent blog post

http://joyofsix.typepad.com/

made me think of this little duck I made from a gourd a few years back!
She helped us celebrate Christmas for a few years!
Alas! She was accidentally knocked off a table and is in need of some repair at this time! :(

Poem: First Signs of Spring

...more thoughts of Spring...

First Signs of Spring

I witnessed today
the first signs of spring,
the billowy blossoms
of the wild plum trees!

They, seemingly, mirrored
white clouds overhead!
…Except that these “Tree Clouds”
were covered with bees!
Bees working, in frenzy, among the white puffs.
Seeking Spring’s first nectar in this most welcomed fest!

I watched as this ritual
once more did unfold!
They were in such a hurry,
never pausing to rest!

This first taste of spring,
as the bees drink it in,
brings enchantment to me!
Such a sight to behold!

Full circle, once more,
the earth, new and fresh!
New life now awakens!
Spring softly unfolds.

...and speaking of smiles...

This is a follow -up of my last post!

SMILES just automatically happen when I am with my kids! :)
This is Alli (my ONLY granddaughter) and me at the Eagle Scout gathering! 2-21-06

Here's some lyrics - as sung by 'Old Blue Eyes,' Frank Sinatra

When You're Smiling

When you’re smilin’, when you’re smilin’
The whole world smiles with you
When you’re laughin’, when you’re laughin’
The sun comes shinin’ through

My Expensive mouth

My expensive mouth-

....Today was NOT a good day by any stretch...

Had that dental appointment and as I expected - the tooth had to have a crown.
They did the worst of it today and in two weeks I go back for the finished crown!

It's left me with a sore mouth, and headache, and nearly $1,000.00 poorer!!!
YES!!! That much for one tooth!!

And that's not the end of it, as I have at least ONE more that also needs a crown!
PLUS- a tooth - in front-needs a filling!!! :( I always felt my FRONT teeth were ok! NO WAY!
... :) but- can't lose my smile so will have to get that one fixed soon!

I will have the most expensive mouth around - and none of it has been cosmetic-
but NECESSARY!!

OH! Did I mention I have no dental insurance??

(No health ins. of any kind, so lets hope I don't worry myself sick over this dental problem!)

Some days are Diamonds...then you have days like today!!!

Poem: My Meadow Walk

My Meadow Walk

Today I took a meadow walk
and to my great delight,
I saw the Pinks are blooming!
It happened overnight!

The first blooms come in early spring,
to soon be joined by more;
a fragrant flower blanket
like none you’ve seen before!

Those meadow blooms, in shades of pink,
so delicate of hue-
years ago they won my heart-
became my favorite view!

I can see this from my window-
this glorious display!
But- best to walk among the flowers,
and pick a small bouquet!

This wildflower (Phlox) grows along roadsides and open meadows through spring and summer in our area of North Central Florida.

It is one of the things that attracted me to this area in the early 70s.

We have a meadow on our property that is left in it's natural , uncut, condition- just for the wildflowers! :)

Eagle Scout Honor

Tomorrow we will be going for an overnight stay at our daughter's house in Orlando. We will attend the ceremony for our grandson, Zachary, and one other young man, as they become Eagle Scouts.

Zach has been involved in scouting since he was old enough to join Cubs. It has been a wonderful and exciting experience for him! ...And has taught him many important life lessons!

' Eagle ' is the highest honor to be acheived in Boy Scouts. We are very proud of Zach, for his dedication in reaching this goal!

Poem: How Do Things Just Slip Away?

...A sad poem of passing time...

How Do Things Just Slip Away?

How do things just slip away?
In a flash, it all has flown.
What was known just yesterday
-I find, today- is gone.

Looking back on all the years,
those times, again, I long to hold.
Time has passed - my children grown-
and, suddenly, I am old!

Now I need to find new roads,
search out new goals to keep in sight.
Discover things to interest me…
however trivial or trite!

Playing ‘catch-up’ in my life-
while seeking joy and happiness-
is often hard and full of strife.
Sometimes exciting, nonetheless!

I look for beauty in each day.
The blanks I’ve missed, I try to fill.
The music, lost along the way,
I’m trying to make real.

Songs, unsung- books, unread
and friends to share in these, I’ve found!
Still, this way is somewhat strange…
this road on which I’m bound!

Things do change, time slips away.
…And in a blink, I find I’m old…
Time weighs heavy on my heart.
And trite and trivial are my goals.

No Ride Today

9:27:09 PM EST
(from Juniper's World)

http://journals.aol.com/juniper5541/JunipersWorld/

No ride today-

Although it's Saturday-we didn't ride... I didn't go out at all...

Have not felt well-with the broken tooth-and not eating anything good at all!
Trying to help Charles-and myself too, with the food reduction plan!!...
But especially him-as he was sternly warned last week,
by the doctor, about his health! We're drastically cutting the carbs-and it is not much fun!

Tuesday we will be going to Orlando, to the Eagle Scout ceremony, for Zach!
We will spend the night, as C. doesn't like to drive that 2 hour trip home at night.
Will put Tam and Terry to sleep on the couch and floor...but they offered!! :)
And we're the 'Old Folks', C. & I ...

My sis and brother-in-law came up for a little visit this afternoon. We all picked fruit
for them to take home. The HoneyBells are dropping too fast now! I hate to see them go!
They are the best ever!

Relaxed late last night for a couple hours with 'The Who!' YES!! :) I CAN relax with THE WHO!

Tonight? I dunno! Probably an early night for me tonight!

Last Goodbye

For so many years our home was right here,
in each of our lives, most precious and dear.

These walls, how they echo the past, oh so clear.
My children’s sweet chatter, I almost can hear!

These walls have observed as each child has changed.
Their lives are now different. It’s all re-arranged.

They’re each on their own with their new lives to make!
I wish I could stay here, if just for their sake!

It’s only a house, with much too much space,
so lonely, forlorn; this fact I must face!

This empty house is no longer a home,
Yet, love and contentment these four walls have known.

Still, these empty rooms have so much to say…
so many sweet memories…I wish I could stay!

Dark Side Of The Moon

(Music notes from Juniper's World)

4:28:00 PM EST
Feeling Happy

Dark Side of the Moon

Last night I got into 'Dark Side of the Moon ,' Pink Floyd.
I knew little of Pink Floyd through the years, apart from 'The Wall'
which my son had insisted on playing for me when he was a teen
and just getting into music! I remember he found 'The Wall' fascinating,
and so did I!

I just recently bought this cd for myself (DSOTM) and had played it just
once before last night , at a time when I was distracted and not
paying much attention to the lyrics. Last night I paid special attention
to the lyrics; in fact, played it through a second time! I found it to be an
extraordinary album/CD! The music is exciting, lyrics of a depressing nature,
but excellent just the same!

I have been told this album was written about Syd Barrett, the founder of
the band, Pink Floyd.

Barrett's story is sad but interesting.
He became mentally ill
(one must assume, in part, due to drug use) He, eventually, became unable to function,
and left the band , by mutual consent.

I found this website about the history of Syd Barrett

Poem: We Are All Adrift

...a poem from my pondering life files...

We Are All Adrift

We are all adrift
on a sea of confusion.
Unknowing of which way to go.
Unsure of the difference
in truth and illusion.
Or when to go fast
or move slow!
Unsure who to trust,
with things we are feeling.
Not knowing how much
we should share!
Afraid to relinquish
the whole of our heart!
Yet, longing to have
someone care!
We must stay afloat
on this sea of confusion,
though some days
we flounder, at best!
Our spirit is sodden.
Our heart feels deflated.
Our soul is not
up to the quest!

YES...cows... a broken tooth!!!

Last night I got into quite an enjoyable music listen of 'Yes!" This Prog Rock group of the 70s is another 'New' music discovery for me- within the past several months! I played Re(Union) first and ended with "Close to the Edge!"

Lol- "Yes" is another group I completely missed, over the years,
while I was busy otherwise - being just a mom and then a grandmom!

It's so much fun getting into all this 'New' music now!! :)

Two bits of bad news today...

#1 Charles called me down to the pasture where our cows are, earlier this morning, telling me our young cow May, was ready to have her calf. This was her first baby and I was excited to see what it would be. I had decided to name it 'Love' if it was a girl...maybe 'Valentine'- if a bull!

I could see right away it wasn't an easy delivery for poor May. I was hoping to get a pic of the new-born calf but left after awhile-and C. had some errands to run, too. When he went back an hour or so later he found the cow still in trouble...he had to assist her and-in the end- the calf was born dead! :( These things are too sad for me!

#2
When I came home I decided to have a bowl of cereal, as I had not had anything for breakfast !
Broke a tooth!!
...Not that the cereal was to blame-tho, it did have fruit in it! I need a lot of dental work! Hope this tooth can be crowned...never mind the hundreds it will cost!! Have to save my teeth-whatever the cost!

: ) Maybe a bowl of Grits would have been a better choice!

Valentine's Day of the past

...a little story...

Valentine’s Day of the past

I find myself remembering how it was for me as a child, the shy and overly sensitive girl I was –well, always - and still am to this day.

This Valentine’s Day just passed has made me remember another one that was a little upsetting to me. Not uncommon for me in those days! :) I can smile now –but then- it was a real hurtful feeling!

As was the way in our school we had a fancy box, decorated with frilly crepe paper and cut out hearts. In this box, with a cut out slit in the top, the students could drop Valentine cards in for other classmates. At the end of the day we had a little party, with cup cakes and punch, and the teacher opened the box and passed out the cards.

I was relieved that I had a small stack of cards in envelopes, when the passing out of cards was over. I was afraid I wouldn’t get any, as I was new to the school; having transferred to this school a few weeks after the term had started. Making friends had never been easy for me, due to my extreme shyness, mostly.The fact that we moved a lot made it harder.

The bell rang, ending the school day before we had a chance to open all of our cards. On the walk home I was happily going through my several cards, feeling good that I hadn’t been left out. :)

The good feeling ended, abruptly, when I opened the last card to find an empty envelope. I felt someone had played a mean trick on me and wondered who among my classmates would want to do such a thing …to give me an empty envelope! Tears came easy to me in those early years… but I fought them and continued my walk home. It crossed my mind the trickster might be watching, as several kids walked along the route I took home.

At home, instead of just throwing the empty envelope away, I examined it again. To my surprise I found the little Valentine was there, after all, but turned facing the back of the envelope, giving the appearance of being empty!

Funny -the things we remember from our childhoods… but not so funny the very real hurts and insecurities children go through! They are real at the time!

This photo is ME at that time! Grade 5 ! 1953 -I was age 11.

Ahh - but since then I have had many, many Happy Valentine’s Days! :)

Poem: I'll Be The Moth

...what better time for poems of love!!

I’ll Be The Moth

I’ll be the moth,
if you’re the flame.
I’ll seek the warmth
you offer me

You’ll be my guiding light,
on shore,
if I’m the ship that’s
lost at sea.

I’ll be the flowers.
you, the rain.
What would have withered
now will grow.

You’ll be the song
that’s in my heart.
I’ll find a way
to let you know.

Poem: First Love

Happy Valentine's Day!

...just a little love poem

First Love

The stolen glances across the room,
do you remember this?
Mixed pain and pleasure of the heart…
remember that first kiss?

The joyful surge of seeing him,
with his friends all gathered ‘round?
The moment when your eyes meet his,
and you know it is YOU he’s found?

That protective arm around you?
His smile that’s for you, alone?
That ecstatic, special, feeling,
like none you have ever known?

Your eyes can’t get enough of him.
His touch leaves tingles there,
as he softly draws you closer,
and he brushes back your hair!

Close your eyes and recapture
first love’s sweet gentleness…
mixed pain and pleasure of the heart.
Remember that first kiss?

Gathering of old cops

Today we met with a few of Charles' old buddies from his police service days in Miami. (And some of their wives) We all met for an early dinner at a restaurant in Belleview.(about 20 miles so. of our place.) and then went to one couples' home for coffee and dessert and another hour or so of visiting- and hearing stories of the 'old days!'
An enjoyable time was had by all.

These guys were all on the Metro Dade, Sheriff's Dept. during the same time-some went through the police academy together!
They all go back a long way! :)

So many of the policemen from Miami have retired here in central Florida.
And why not? It's a great place to live!

Cold Night

Tonight is COLD and I need to be sleeping , as I will have to get up for an early doctor's appt. tomorrow. Just a routine visit - lab work, etc!
Have to be there at 8:00...and that's usually my Getting Up time! So I'd better make my going to bed time-soon!

I have spent the whole day doing nothing useful! The only real pleasure in the day was watching the birds dining outside my window- early this morning!

Watching the birds always brings thoughts of Mom. She loved all things of nature- especially birds.

...and too, I think of this poem by Emily Dickinson

(Seems I've known this poem forever. Mom must have read it to us when we were very young.)

A Bird Came Down the Walk
By Emily Dickinson

A bird came down the walk:
He did not know I saw;
He bit an angle-worm in halves
And ate the fellow, raw.

And then he drank a dew
From a convenient grass,
And then hopped sidewise to the wall
To let a beetle pass.

He glanced with rapid eyes
That hurried all abroad,--
They looked like frightened beads, I thought;
He stirred his velvet head

Like one in danger;
cautious, I offered him a crumb,
And he unrolled his feathers
And rowed him softer home

Than oars divide the ocean,
Too silver for a seam,
Or butterflies, off banks of noon,
Leap, splashless, as they swim.

My night of music

Last night I had a very enjoyable few hours of my music listening.

I started out with Pink Floyd...from there went to Jethro Tull and ended the night with 2 selections of The Beatles. A varied but fun night of music!!

This is lyrics of a favorite Jethro Tull song of mine,
from' War Child' album

JETHRO TULL LYRICS

"Skating Away On The Thin Ice Of The New Day"

Meanwhile back in the year One --- when you belonged to no-one ---
you didn't stand a chance son, if your pants were undone.
`Cause you were bred for humanity and sold to society ---
one day you'll wake up in the Present Day ---
a million generations removed from expectations
of being who you really want to be.

Skating away ---
skating away ---
skating away on the thin ice of the New Day.

So as you push off from the shore,
won't you turn your head once more --- and make your peace with everyone?
For those who choose to stay,
will live just one more day ---
to do the things they should have done.
And as you cross the wilderness, spinning in your emptiness:
you feel you have to pray.
Looking for a sign
that the Universal Mind (!) has written you into the Passion Play.

Skating away on the thin ice of the New Day.

And as you cross the circle line, the ice-wall creaks behind ---
you're a rabbit on the run.
And the silver splinters fly in the corner of your eye ---
shining in the setting sun.
Well, do you ever get the feeling that the story's
too damn real and in the present tense?
Or that everybody's on the stage, and it seems like
you're the only person sitting in the audience?

Skating away on the thin ice of the New Day.

Poem: The Words Said

The Words Said

The words said…sometimes so harsh and cruel.
They leave scars that never fully heal.

They crust over with a covering, superficial,
that only serves, from others, to conceal.

Still, the wound is there below the surface,
and subject to eruptions, evermore.

The careless deeds and hurtful words, thus, spoken,
prevent the healing of this hidden sore.

Words flung out in anger are like daggers.
They pierce the soul and penetrate the heart.

Deflating any feelings of wellbeing.
Leaving loneliness that never will depart.

Still, you search for simple understanding…
make excuses - try to rationalize.

And every time the scab, again, is broken
it manages to take you by surprise.

Crisp-cool-nice

(from Juniper's World)

http://journals.aol.com/juniper5541/JunipersWorld/

It has been a super nice day today...on the cool side but beautiful!

I ventured out early to get some more spider pictures. I read that if I
misted the web with water I could get better pictures.

I found that weird looking little spider still in the same place - just hangin' there on his web; waiting for me!

I sprayed the web with the water sprayer and the web stood out a lot better-
even to the naked eye! I got a few shots...but they were not great pictures,
after all! I upset that poor spider needlessly! :( The problem is the web is
not in a good location- too much clutter in the back ground! I'm hoping to find
a web that can be shot with the blue sky as a background.
It WILL happen! ("Mark my word!" - as Mom used to say)

Had to go out for a few forgotten items at Wal-Mart (and needed to drop a
couple things in the mail box)

...was tempted-and gave in to it...Yes! I bought for myself, Pink Floyd's ,
"Dark Side of the Moon." Have been told it's great- - essential for my
classic rock collections! :)

Just showed my son and he gave me the 2 thumbs up sign!....But...
he says - in his opinion- their next album out was even better ...
"Wish You Were Here!"

All I remember of Pink Floyd is "The Wall!"
Maybe I will see how I like this- later tonight!!

(....continuing my classic rock studies...and having fun! :) )

J.

Sarah McLachlan

Last night I was up late with the music of the wonderful Sarah McLachlan.

Over the past couple of years she has become one of my top favorites. I have been able to see her twice in concert and she puts on a great show!

She is soft rock with a bit of a folk sound to some of her songs. She writes all of her own songs...very talented lady!
She is from Canada..

Sarah writes of such Real feelings, to which we can all relate! (or, I do, anyway)
And she sings with the voice of an angel!

Below, see lyrics of one of my favorites of Sarah McLachlan. This is from her "Afterglow" album.
This is my favorite of the CDs I have of hers. There's still a couple I don't have!!

~~~~~
Fallen
Heaven bend to take my hand
And lead me through the fire
Be the long awaited answer
To a long and painful fight
Truth be told I've tried my best
But somewhere along the way
I got caught up in all there was to offer
And the cost was so much more than I could bear
Though I've tried, I've fallen...
I have sunk so low
I have messed up
Better I should know
So don't come round here
And tell me I told you so...
We all begin with good intent
Love was raw and young
We believed that we could change ourselves
THe past could be undone
But we carry on our backs the burden
Time always reveals
The lonely light of morning
The wound that would not heal
It's the bitter taste of losing everything
That I have held so dear.
I've fallen...
I have sunk so low
I have messed up
Better I should know
So don't come round here
And tell me I told you so...
Heaven bend to take my hand
Nowhere left to turn
I'm lost to those I thought were friends
To everyone I know
Oh they turn their heads embarassed
Pretend that they don't see
But it's one missed step
One slip before you know it
And there doesn't seem a way to be redeemed
Though I've tried, I've fallen...
I have sunk so low
I have messed up
Better I should know
So don't come round here
And tell me I told you so...
Poem: The Words We Say~~Poem: My Nights Are Long And Lonely
The Words We Say
The words we say-
confusing…
tangled with emotions…
like string balls kittens play with!
June Kellum
June 2004
~~~~~~

My Nights Are Long

My nights are long and lonely.
So many thoughts invading.
Rendering nil and useless,
my feeble stabs at sleep.

Thoughts scuttling, to and fro,
of all the words we’ve spoken…
yet, many more left dangling
- unborn - or buried deep.

Past phrases leap and frolic.
Unanswered questions linger.
Meanings lost in limbo,
the two of us have found.

Be still! My weary soul
is needing rest and solace.
Still, endlessly, the memories
continue swirling ‘round!

At last- sleep is descending,
so deep that dreams can‘t follow.
And for the moment resting
- the puzzle - ‘You and Me.’

This welcomed rest I covet,
embrace it, seek to hold it!
For these fleeting hours…
I know that I am free.

In My Life...

Some scenes from my life this week!

Early spring blossoms of the Wild Plum tree

Spanish Moss-in side yard

Ready for a cup of tea

A SPIDER, who's web I almost walked into!

Making Orange Juice

Pink flowers are the RedBud blooms-an early sign of Spring

Moody mood

Last night I had a long, long listen of Moody Blues! Was up with this music until after 1:00 AM ! (4 hours!!)

The Moody Blues, as many others, was just a name I knew of in music but didn't really know a lot about- until the past year!

'Moodies' has become a group I enjoy so very much ! They produced so many beautiful songs!

Below - lyrics of just one of my favorites! It's a beautiful but sad love song.

Enjoy!

~~~~~~~
Forever Autumn
( Moody Blues-Justin Hayward)
The summer sun is fading as the year grows old
And darker days are drawing near.
The winter winds will be much colder
Now you're not here.
I watch the birds fly south across the autumn sky
And one by one they disappear.
I wish that I was flying with them
Now you're not here.
Like the sun through the trees you came to love me.
Like a leaf on a breeze you blew away.
Through autumn's golden gown we used to kick our way,
You always loved this time of year.
Those fallen leaves lie undisturbed now
'Cause you're not here.
'Cause you're not here.
'Cause you're not here.
Like the sun through the trees you came to love me,
Like a leaf on a breeze you blew away.
A gentle rain falls softly on my weary eyes
As if to hide a lonely tear,
My life will be forever autumn
Real Good Looking Boy
One more post about Elvis! (sort of!)
This is a song by Pete Townshend/The Who. The 'Real Good Looking Boy' of the title is Elvis Presley.
Real Good Looking Boy
When I think back to the
first time in my childhood
When I saw that face
I thought right then,
'That's a real good looking boy.'
I saw myself in the mirror
in profile
for the first time
I thought,
'Hey! That's a real good looking boy'
And I felt then
that I moved
With all those lucky bucks and angels
High in the theatre
In the sky
So I went to my mother
I said,
'Hey mom - take look at me'
Have you ever seen a teen
Fly so high?
That's a real good looking boy
That's a real good looking boy
She said,
'Son, well, you know,
you're an ugly boy.
You don't really look like him.
In this long line
There's been some
real strange genes
You've got 'em all
You've got 'em all
With some extras thrown in
That's a real good looking boy
That's a real good looking boy
That's a real good looking boy
That's a real good looking boy
Wise men say
Only fools, only fools rush in
But I - I give in
Falling in love, in love with you
Now I'm here with you little darling
And you say, 'You're beautiful as you are'
And I've managed somehow to survive
You arrived in my life like a fragrance
And helped me find a way to laugh
And I know now so-called beauty lies
God gave him a face
Then he gave me something above
God gave me grace
Then he gave me your sweet, sweet, sweet love
You make me feel like a real good looking boy
I feel like a real good looking boy
That's a real good looking boy
I was surprised ,when I went searching for these lyrics, to find such a large number of songs have been written about Elvis.
About THE WHO-
I have become a huge fan of The Who, and several other bands and music groups of the 60s & 70s! in the past couple years (Yah-I know I'm a bit late! :) but during the time it was actually happening I was too busy raising my kids to be into music that much!
...but- think of this... It's all NEW to me now and I have so much yet to discover! And I am!! Am enjoying it so much! I've been directed to some great music by some ppl on a music forum I was a part of for awhile!
The Who is probably my favorite-of the 'NEW' music I have found! :) At least of the LOUD Rock and Roll!
'The Who' are touring later this year - Am hoping to see them but doubt if I can manage to do it! :(
I would like that to happen more than anything! This will probably be their last tour!
Elvis
Many people thought my husband looked like Elvis Presley in his young years. I thought so too...
Even his baby (little boy) pictures looked like Elvis!
Charles says it's the other way around-that ELVIS looked like HIM ! :)
Last year I got as a gift from my daughter a collector doll of Elvis as a child!
The actual picture of Elvis that came with the doll and one of Charles looks sooo much alike!
What do you think?
Elvis and my husband are both from the south -and were almost the same age (both born in 1935)
Charles was always an Elvis fan, but he thinks of Elvis as a country singer, whereas, I think of him as "King of Rock & Roll!"
(At least until the Beatles came along :) )
As a young man, Charles looked a lot like Elvis, too!
...And of course, I was always a BIG Elvis fan! :)
...and-speaking of spiders...
I can't think of spiders without remembering this little true tale of a close encounter...
Haters of spiders-you should LEAVE now! :) This is a chillin' spider tale!
I live in Florida where spiders thrive (as do so many other pests!) and not just outdoors, where they would have ample room to spin their fancy webs, and trap any tasty dinner of choice! Spiders often choose to reside in our homes here in Florida. Oh, usually, not the big ones with the webs that reach from tree to tree- but the sneaky kind that hide behind our baseboards....and other unexpected places!
One day I had a visit from my sister. As is our way, we each poured our own cup of coffee and were standing around the kitchen, talking of this and that!...NOT about spiders, I'm quite sure, as my sis is one of those haters of spiders!
Suddenly, my sister starts sputtering and spittin' and spewing out coffee! She had poured her coffee in on top of a spider that had ventured into that cup on my counter! Didn't find him until she was taking the last swallow - and he met her teeth! THIS spider was Not one of those little ones, either-but BIG and brown! I don't know how she missed him when she added her cream, but she did!
Oh, my! I hated that! Really!!
( and I bet that spider did too!)
As you can imagine, my sis now checks her cups from my counter- before pouring a cup of coffee- however furtively!
Who could blame her! :) I'm lucky she will still have a cup of coffee with me, I suppose!
(ahhh- but I once saw a spider on her ceiling...so I check her cups too!) :)
This sister will remain un-named- I have 3!!
Poem: The Spider And Me
Here's a little fun poem I wrote last late summer (If you can call getting entangled in spider webs FUN!)
Out of season... but spring and summer will be around again before we know it; that wonderful circle of life!
The Spider and Me
Today I did some gardening.
I snipped and groomed a bit.
Until I walked into his web…
and had to pause and sit!
Oh! Woe is me and double woe...
that yucky - sticky mess!
Untangeling strands of spider silk…
not fun, as you might guess!
I didn’t let it do me in!
I’m stubborn - don’t you see?
And, by heck, I would not let
him get the best of me!
So with my garden hose in hand
I washed his web away.
And sent him scuttling up the tree,
where I truly hope he’ll stay!
If I encounter him again,
I hope not in my face!
I hope he builds much higher up -
for him, a safer place!
Once to be enclosed in silk
is plenty… hope he knows!
Next time - I just might arm myself
with more than garden hose!
That's me watering the front entrance garden. My husband surprised me with that new-twisty-garden hose a couple years ago! Looks neat but it didn't work out! Not enough water pressure!
Poem: If Only I Could
ANOTHER POEM OF LOVE...
If Only I Could
All this I would give you
if only I could.
Warm sunshine to soothe you.
A walk in the wood.
Bird song to enchant you.
Soft breezes to caress.
Blue skies to calm you-
to relieve all your stress!
Good friends to surround you-
just those, tried and true.
...And a love for a lifetime
I'd offer to you.
Sweet music to uplift you,
as only it would.
All this I would give you
if only I could.
This is at a park where I like to go and walk.
I love that dappled path and it seemed to fit well with the poem's, 'Walk in the wood.'
