One Eyed Lizzy's

We walked along the river front-looking in shops, watching the big boats-the cruise ships...people watching, too! So many people !

We finally decided on this place for dinner!
It was a really attractive place inside-with the typical old look of the waterfront restaurants!

Charles and I were offered one of those small tables with the very high stools... and right next to an open-air window! ahhh- I didn't really want that with my tendency for accidents! :) I tried the stool out and it seemed a little shaky-and high- for me!
( YES! I have had a few accidents in my time!)

...We almost decided to keep looking but then they found us a table on the second floor! This was an ideal table where we could have a more relaxed meal! Seemed perfect!

We ordered our meals and had some refreshing, icy water as we waited!

Our dinners came in due time and we were ready to eat!

"Wait, wait,"says Junie! " We have to document this with some pictures! " I got Charles before he was able to dig in and quickly passed the camera to him for my turn!

OK- The first one was just awful so I said he should try again! I thought,"Maybe I'll be sipping my cold water for a natural looking shot! " I picked up the glass and brought it to my lips...tipping it just a little too soon, spilling it on my blouse (and a few seconds delay here before I realized) and also on my lap! Oh, my! Icy cold water directly into my lap! I quickly stood and used my napkin to blot up the water on my seat...that is- the seat of the booth I was sitting in! The picture shows where the water hit my blouse, but the most of it went directly to my lap! What a shock to the system!

Nothing much to do about the seat -and the front - of my pants! Oh, well! Nothing left to do but just make the best of it! SMILE ;)
So I did that!
SEE!!

We finished our meal and hurried on up river again-to view the sun setting over the Savannah! We missed the actual moment but got out there and back there -in time to see the sky turn all these beautiful pastel colors!

The sunset is something close to magic for me-the way the colors change from moment to moment, until eventually the purple shades of night take over.

We were both ready to head back to our motel- but first we had to get up those steep stairs to the level of Emmet Park! This pic shows Emmet Park, looking upward from the river street area. This doesn't show the bottom of the wall, but you can get an idea of how high and steep those steps would have to be!

~I Love the look of that wall!~

This is the sky as we were walking through the park, going back to our car!

Perfect!

Old Savannah -Emmet Park and River St.

After our opening of presents, and armed with our newly acquired map, we were soon on our way! We had no trouble getting to the old historic area of the city!

We walked through Emmet Park. Emmet Park has several monuments, one of which is a Vietnam Veterans monument . (shown here)

The park is beautiful with giant trees adorned with the Spanish Moss !

Here we are in the park.

Emmet Park is next to River St., which of course is directly next to The Savannah River! This is a long stretch of shops and restaurants on one side and the river and small park areas on the other. To get down to River St. from the park one must descend steep stairs. (at several locations) This wall that separates the main part of Savannah from the river front is made of old brick- and river rocks, in some parts of the wall! Beautiful to see! And fascinating to touch it and think of how very old it is!
( Lol- we were very careful going down those steps!)

The street is of cobble stones and old brick, here by the river.

This is a restaurant where we had dined on our previous visit here several years ago. I hoped we could eat there but we couldn't get in without reservations! ( The tourist flow has increased dramatically since our first visit!)

Note:
The Boar's Head Grill and Tavern is a restored
18th century cotton warehouse.

Restaurant
Est. 1959

Here is a shot of the Savannah River Bridge and some boats ! : ) We would be back to catch the sunset behind the bridge a little later!

Next post:
Sunset and dinner.

Sea Gulls

Sea Gulls over the Savannah River

Labels:

...and we're back!

First off - I must say we had a super good old time!
(for old folks...I bet you're thinking!) :) That's ok!

We DID have fun in our old and comfortable way!

Savannah is a wonderful city to visit! So much history! So much beauty in the old buildings! It's a quite unique experience - visiting this city!

I will tell you about it in the order that things happened with us...
Hope you will enjoy the trip with us!
~~~
Early Friday morning we were on the road at a little past 7:00 for the approximately 5 hour drive to Savannah! We were both tired from lack of a good night's sleep the previous night but the trip turned out to be a fun time for us. We did a lot of talking and laughing and the music CDs I brought along were left untouched!
...And-thankfully-no Talk Radio, even!
We just talked and laughed together and had an enjoyable drive.
Lol- OK- These pictures may look like Charlie is not very happy- but trust me- some pictures can fool ya! :) "Oh-Charlie!" (says Junie!)
OK - We arrive in Savannah around 12:30...Finally find the motel. (Even with directions printed out -it wasn't that easy!) The motel we had reserved was not in the old Savannah section and we had no clear idea of where the old section of Savannah was in relation to where we were. We needed a map of the city!
And we were unaware that we couldn't check in the room until 3:00!
So here we have almost 3 hours until check in time! My plan was to be able to check in with time enough to rest a little and to freshen up for the dinner out to celebrate our anniversary, in Old Savannah!
...But what do we do when we have time to spare in a strange place! :) RIGHT! We eat! For one thing we didn't want to venture too far from the motel we had finally been able to locate...until we could get hold of a map and figure things out!! ...But it
WAS past lunch time-and dinner was hours away so we went to a nearby steak house for a sandwich!
After we ate we went in search of a map of Savannah. After a futile Wal-Mart search...in which I managed to have a shelf fall, dumping maps and travel books at my feet...(maps of NC-Atlanta-Miami- NYC-and other cities and states near and far-but no map of Savannah-) I quickly made my retreat at the heels of my husband; leaving that fallen shelf behind me! LOL-No! I didn't do it on purpose...besides - it was a small mess I walked away from!...Chas. was leaving me so I had to follow!
We finally found a map at a 'Books A Million' store and by that time it was time to check in the motel!
We thought we'd do most of our sight seeing on the next day but we would go into Old Savannah for dinner a little bit later...We would rest first... I think I actually dozed off for a little bit, after a quick and refreshing shower!
When I awoke Charles wanted to exchange our gifts before going out again! He surprised me with this!!
I didn't expect anything like this, at all - and the book and movie I got for him looked very small compared to this!
~~Oh, but there is also that little garden gnome in Florida Gator garb! ;) He's very cute and Charles liked him a lot! ~~
~~~~

Tomorrow I will tell of our dinner out and our first few hours in Old Savannah!

Junie

Our Anniversary

Tomorrow is our anniversary. We'll be gone a couple days - to Savannah.
We hope it will be a relaxing and fun trip!
We have never done a lot of traveling ; very few trips just for us.

:) When we got married in 1961, we remember with amazement that he had just $15.00 in his pocket to go on 'til his next payday! :) And I, of course, had no money at all! But it was near his next payday- so- not to worry! We never had a honeymoon trip at all! Nor a wedding - except at the courthouse-lol- with no one there except the 2 of us and the justice of the peace who performed the service for us! :) She had to call in a clerk from the outer office to be a witness!

We don't even have a picture of our wedding day!
(That I do regret... being the photo collector that I am!...What! You hadn't noticed!! :) )

:) I guess I am going into all of this just to show that it's not the fancy, expensive weddings or elaborate honeymoon trips that are important. What's important is the love and commitment that has to go into it, to make things work out!

~~~
This is a picture taken of us in 1978...near the date of our 17th. anniversary!
This was a happy day! We were going to a Gordon Lightfoot concert on Miami Beach! It was a good show, which we both enjoyed!
~~~

This is a poem I wrote last year...

My Love

These years we’ve been together,
down this road of life…

through calm or stormy weather…
through the pain and strife…

through the happiest of seasons that, so,
out weigh the rest…

sharing what we’ve treasured…
time has been our test!

Both learning, as time passes,
the craft of compromise…

how, overtime, things change a bit,
may take us by surprise.

Sometimes change feels threatening,
seems like the winter’s wind

that howls in it’s persistence,
impatient to come in.

Changes are just ripples,
can’t touch us - you must know-

or break the bond created,
all those years ago.

We got this anniversary gift from our son today, a couple days early.
We both love it!
It's a garden ornament but I will probably keep in inside on the window shelf in our living room! It stands about 2 ft. high!
Very cute!

Thanks, Chris!

We will be going on our trip to Savannah, early Friday morning , and will return late Sunday!

Hope to see a lot of pretty things and get lots of pictures!

So I say...

I don't feel like getting out today...so I say...
'To heck with my hair!'
I've never been one to worry about my hair that much- as my pictures plainly show! :)
(no pun intended... but...Junie - plain and simple)
...And my hair has most always been long!

So there! :)

Another of those days...those crazy ones!

This has been one of those tiresome, silly, unproductive, crazy days! (which are becoming my normal days - or so it seems!)

OK...

I wanted to go shop for a few things for our upcoming anniversary trip!

~~~Did I mention we are going to Savannah? We will be gone from early Friday thru ...perhaps, late Sunday. Savannah is only a few hours drive from where we live.~~~
Anyway-some new duds needed for this trip! I went to Beall's-and this is a few things I bought! (Just casual and cool summer things!)
Next on my list of things to do...
as you all know I am needing a hair cut! Right-I'm sure you all agree! OK-I just wanted a trim to shoulder length- just my usual Junie haircut that I have had forever! Nothing fancy-just ME!
I thought since I had to do a bit of shopping at Wal-Mart I would give that shop a try again! Bad mistake!!
I waited for over an hour...and still the silly little women in there ( 3 of them) couldn't find time to shampoo and cut my hair! WOW!! And you'd think they were having an overflow of customers...In truth they had two that I saw...during the time I was lurking around-coming and going back and forth...waiting for my chance to have my glorious shampoo and haircut!!
Stupid me-I came back a third time...still expecting to get my turn! :) ...Was told for the third time it would
still be awhile! I said, "Well, can I make an appointment for tomorrow?" The inept little hairdressers said,"We don't make appointments!" lol! I said ,"I can't wait any longer!"
SO- my hair is still LOOONG-and it may just stay that way! Or I may venture out again tomorrow to another place! We'll see!
Lol- It was just about a year ago that I got THIS hair cut! Weird style-not at all like me! Check it out!
~~~

Ok ... The day did have some good moments-despite the hair ordeal! On the way over and back I played this CD!
This is such relaxing and fine guitar music! I just Love it!

Here is a Video of LJ doing 'While My Guitar Gently Weeps.'

~Laurence Juber Plays The Beatles~

....SOOO- by the time I got home the music had soothed me into feeling better...even with my hair still flowing down my back! And these flowers added their special magic too!

My Generation

'World's Oldest Rock Stars' ~ Fun Video!

...and more...
~~~
I got this in an E-mail recently.
I think they're trying to tell me something...my family and friends...
with all these E-mails on aging! :)
~~~

Recently, I was diagnosed with

A. A. A. D. D.

Age Activated Attention Deficit Disorder

This is how it develops:

I decide to water my garden.

As I turn on the hose, I look over at my car and decide my car needs washing.

As I start toward the garage, I notice that there is mail on the porch table that I brought up from the mailbox earlier.

I decide to go through the mail before I wash the car.

I lay my car keys down on the table, put the junk mail in the garbage can under the table, and notice that the can is full.

So, I decide to put the bills back on the table and take out the garbage first.

But then I think, since I'm going to be near the mailbox, when I take out the garbage anyway, I may as well pay the bills first.

I take my checkbook off the table, and see that there is only 1 check left. My extra checks are in my desk in the study, so I go inside the study to my desk where I find the can of Coke that I had been drinking.

I'm going to look for my checks, but first I need to push the Coke aside so that I don't accidentally knock it over. I see that the Coke is getting warm, and I decide I should put it in the refrigerator to keep it cold.

As I head toward the kitchen with the Coke, a vase of flowers on the counter catches my eye--they need to be watered.

I set the Coke down on the counter, and I discover my reading glasses that I've been searching for all morning.

I decide I better put them back on my desk, but first I'm going to water the flowers.

I set the glasses back down on the counter, fill a container with water and suddenly I spot the TV remote Someone left it on the kitchen table.

I realize that tonight when we go to watch TV, I will be looking for the remote, but I won't remember that it's on the kitchen table, so I decide to put it back in the den where it belongs, but first I'll water the flowers.

I pour some water in the flowers, but quite a bit of it spills on the floor.
So, I set the remote back down on the table, get some towels and wipe up the spill.

Then, I head down the hall trying to remember what I was planning to do.

~~~
At the end of the day:
----the car isn't washed,
----the bills aren't paid,
----there is a warm can of Coke sitting on the counter,
----the flowers don't have enough water,
----there is still only 1 check in my check book,
----I can't find the remote,
----I can't find my glasses,
----and I don't remember what I did with the car keys.
Then, when I try to figure out why nothing got done today, I'm really baffled because I know I was busy all day long, and I'm really tired.
I realize this is a serious problem, and I'll try to get some help for it, but first I'll check my e-mail.
Do me a favor, will you? Forward this message to everyone you know, because I don't remember to whom it has been sent.
Don't laugh -- if this isn't you yet, your day is coming!
GROWING OLDER IS MANDATORY.
GROWING UP IS OPTIONAL.
LAUGHING AT YOURSELF IS THERAPEUTIC.
P.S I just remembered.
I LEFT THE WATER RUNNING IN THE DRIVEWAY!
I
A springtime ride!
Today Charles suggested a ride on the Victory! Can you guess what my answer to that was?
Have you ever known me to turn down a Victory ride? NO!!
I always want to document everything...so ...here's our ride in pictures!
~~~

Getting ready to go:

At the front entrance to our house~me and a rose bush

~~~
The sky looked like this when we started out at about 11:00~ It was just a perfect day to ride-a perfect day to do just about anything, in fact!
Here's the happy face of 'JunieRose' enjoying the ride and the beautiful day!
We decided to go to Inverness, which is more than an hour's ride from us! There is a seafood restaurant there which we both love! Here we are, just having arrived at the restaurant!
They have great Catfish...but my favorite thing of all is the excellent fried mushrooms they serve!
NOTE: Although I ate a lot of those mushrooms I didn't eat my fries or corn! (TRYING to cut down on the carbs!)
This place seems to be a hangout for Pirates
(notice this pic) so Charles looks to fit right in...although he does seem to be a little uneasy with the company! :) lol- He didn't know I was getting this one! Obviously!
~~~

After leaving the restaurant we were homeward bound, but Charles had a couple stops he wanted to make...Flea Mkt. type stuff (old farm implements- etc)

I spent that time in getting some shots of the local scenery! I LOVE this Spanish Moss hanging from the trees, decked out in their new spring green!

Utt ohhh!
That sky had turned darker...so we headed for home!

We made it home-safe and dry!

No place better than home! And my meadow flowers!

Love,

Junie
