A day in a life ~Yesterday

Another day in our life...and I'd say, it was a, mostly, good day!

The weather is fine right now, and spring is definitely on the way if not quite here just yet! :) It's hard to tell with our Florida climate just when winter ends and spring begins. We have such a short time period of COLD... but - unfortunately this time - just enough to ZAP my oranges!
Such is life!!

~Some MORE pics to show how SPRINGY it looks around our place right now ~ even my beloved wildflowers are starting to pop up along the edge of the meadow!~

Our first blooms of late winter/early spring are the Red bud trees and the wild Plum tree...and they will be over in another few days! :( They make such a pretty display, all around town and the countryside here. There's lots of them-as well as the white Dogwood trees.

There are some Dogwood trees in bloom - but not mine. Ours is not in a good location- next to the giant Live Oak tree; too much shade, I think! But I will have a few blooms at least!

LOL-OK- enough gushing about my flowers!!

Marc, my son-in-law, got home yesterday. (for a few days!)

He did some upgrades on my computer for me. He also helped me set up some different chat systems, as I was having some trouble with Aim-AOL. I still have AIM- but now I have 'I-Chat'-and also 'Adium'...or AOL-AIM...whichever I choose! lol- that'll keep me yapping for awhile!

I'll give them a try...but you all know I HATE changes...I was comfortable using AOL-Aim ( because I knew exactly what I was doing) until just recently when I started having a lot of crashes during chats! Could it be with the new upgrades all that trouble will be gone, anyway?? LOL- I hope so...because it's easier for me than these new ones! We'll see how it goes...at least now I have alternatives for my chats, if needed.

We all had a really good meal together last night - Tina, Marc and Alli- Chris, Charles and me! This is what we had- Broiled Tilapia-(lemon-pepper & rosemary seasoned) and a great salad and steamed veggies- some delicious wheat rolls! Yummy!

Here is the food!

My husband and son, about to partake... :)

The others of us escaped the photos this time! haha

( Do I hear a sigh of relief out there?? ;) )

Love and hugs ,

Heart Of The Matter ~ (a beautiful song with lyrics )

This is a beautiful song by Don Henley (Eagles)
I love the mellow, easy listening sound of The Eagles and of Don Henley, in his later solo songs, too!

I'll have a few Eagles and Henley songs at the top of my songlist for a day or so...or maybe longer!

LOL! Who doesn't enjoy The Eagles!

Heart Of The Matter
(Don Henley)

I got the call today, I didn't wanna hear
But I knew that it would come
An old, true friend of ours was talkin on the phone
She said you'd found someone
And I thought of all the bad luck,
And the struggles we went through
And how I lost me and you lost you
What are these voices outside loves open door
Make us throw off our contentment
And beg for something more?
I'm learning to live without you now
But I miss you sometimes
The more I know, the less I understand
All the things I thought I knew, I'm learning again
I've been trying to get down
To the heart of the matter
But my will gets weak
And my thoughts seem to scatter
But I think its about forgiveness
Even if, even if you dont love me anymore
These times are so uncertain
Theres a yearning undefined
And people filled with rage
We all need a little tenderness
How can love survive in such a graceless age?
The trust and self-assurance that lead to happiness
They're the very things - we kill I guess
Pride and competition
Cannot fill these empty arms
And the work I put between us
You know it doesnt keep me warm
I'm learning to live without you now
But I miss you, baby
And the more I know, the less I understand
All the things I thought Id figured out
I have to learn again
I've been trying to get down
To the heart of the matter
But everything changes
And my friends seem to scatter
But I think its about forgiveness
Even if, even if you dont love me anymore
There are people in your life who've come and gone
They let you down you know they hurt your pride
You better put it all behind you baby; life goes on
You keep carryin that anger; it'll eat you up inside, baby
I've been trying to get down
To the heart of the matter
But my will gets weak
And my thought seem to scatter
But I think its about forgiveness
Even if, even if you dont love me
I've been trying to get down
To the heart of the matter
Because the flesh will get weak
And the ashes will scatter
So I'm thinking about forgiveness
Even if, even if you dont love me
Forgiveness - baby
Even if, you dont love me anymore

Sad But true...

After 3, or maybe 4, nights of freezing temperatures recently we are left with about 20 trees of wasted citrus fruit!

At first I was optimistic, thinking if the fruit didn't immediately fall off the trees it must be ok. ( A lot of the fruit fell-a lot is still hanging!)

And it did seem so at first... with the fruit we sampled...but a couple days ago I again started to squeeze some juice and discovered that, although the oranges appear ok and are still juicy, the juice is sour! :(

The oranges are ripe in mid Nov and so we had fruit for the holidays and onward for a few weeks!

...but . .. Geesh-I sure am sorry we lost all these trees full of fruit! Several of our
neighbors and relatives were also enjoying that fruit- especially the Honey Bells!

NEXT time I'm gonna eat those oranges

as fast as I can!!!

What a bummer!!

Chat with Brian

Yesterday I had a nice surprise with an AIM IM beep . This was mid-day and unusual - as any chats I have on AIM IM are normally at night.

It turned out to be my grandson Brian, and I couldn't have been more pleased.

Brian and his brother Dan, share a place in Gainesville and we don't see them or hear from them nearly as often as we'd like, so-YES-I was tickled to get this beep from him! :) Actually, he needed to talk to his mom and wondered if I knew whether or not she was at work. (I didn't know)
Brian and I had a very nice and long conversation and he said he and Dan are doing fine, just very busy with working. He also directed me to this site where he has a few of his pieces of art displayed!

Scroll down to the bottom of this web page until you find Brian Fahey then click where it says 'read more

Here are these brothers when they were little guys - always big buddies!

Mellow Yellow Monday~Feb 23, 2009

It's Mellow Yellow Monday again!

Living in the country we have snake encounters occasionally.

It's a good idea to know which are the good guys! :)
Once you learn to identify the poisonous snakes of your world, then you are free to enjoy and explore the rest of them-up close!
(Even the poisonous ones are interesting - but at a safe distance!)

Snakes are fascinating creatures to me and I'm always thrilled when we happen to meet one around our place. This usually happens a few times every year.
I'm looking forward to summer! ;)

( a couple of snakes here - with some yellow color)

Victory Ride~2~22~'09 ...and more

Our Victory ride today!

Today was a beautiful day for riding - with the blue sky and white clouds just the way I like it best-and cool temps. Charles said it was a little too windy for him...;) but I was pretty much shielded from the wind, sitting behind him! Guess it was not as much fun for him- riding into the wind...

I just sit back there with my camera and get my pictures! The sky was a wondrous sight today and so I got a lot of cloud pictures!

This is me - enjoying the ride!
I, truly, had a smile on my face most of the day! :)
This was my first ride in awhile!

Our destination was our Motorcycle dealer where we bought our Victory - north of Gainesville.
They were having an event to bring former and potential customers in to see the new motorcycles and other RVs that they sell. They had food and drinks and also a Raffle drawing for gifts of shirts and caps-and one for a cash prize! We didn't win any of those! Charles bought me a shirt, though.
( I told him, "I'll wear that tomorrow when we go on
another ride!) HAHA

Here are some of the motorcycles in the showroom! WOW! Lots of pretty, shiny bikes there...

...but none as pretty as our green one! :) We are in agreement that we have the prettiest motorcycle that we've
ever seen!

Here we are getting ready for our return trip home. Lots of bikes and riders here!

South of Gainesville lies the Paynes Prairie.

(Paynes Prairie is a Florida State Park, encompassing a 21,000 acre (85 km²) savanna south of Gainesville, Florida, in Micanopy. It is also a U.S. National Natural Landmark. It is crossed by both I-75 and U.S. 441 (which has a scenic outlook ramp).

We got a real treat today, riding through this area. All the years we've lived here we had never seen the high number of alligators in the swamps as we saw today off the west side of the road we were traveling on! Of course there is a high chain link fence separating the road from the swamplands and also a concrete wall structure where the water comes to. The gators were all along the opposite low bank of this water! There were dozens - just along the area where we stopped! All these pics are each of separate gators...and this is not
all that I got!

Oh, my!
How would you like to be lost in there at night and trying to find your way out! haha

I was tired when we got home late in the afternoon- but it had been a fun day!

Last night I spent hours viewing some (a lot) of Youtube videos of the
60s Prog Rock band,' YES.'

Here are lyrics of the song that's currently at the top of my songlist!

I. cord of life

And You and I

A man conceived a moments answers to the dream,
Staying the flowers daily, sensing all the themes.
As a foundation left to create the spiral aim,
A movement regained and regarded both the same,
All complete in the sight of seeds of life with you.

Changed only for a sight of sound, the space agreed.
Between the picture of time behind the face of need,
Coming quickly to terms of all expression laid,
Emotion revealed as the ocean maid,
All complete in the sight of seeds of life with you.

Turn round tailor, coins and
Assaulting all the mornings of the crosses
Interest shown, never know
Presenting one another to the cord, their fruitless worth;
All left dying, rediscovered cords are broken,
Of the door that turned round, locked inside
To close the cover, the mother earth.
All the interest shown, they wont
To turn one another, to the sign hide, hold, they wont
At the time tell you, watching the world,
To float your climb. watching all of the world,
Watching us go by.

And you and I climb over the sea to the valley,
And you and I reached out for reasons to call.

Ii. eclipse

Coming quickly to terms of all expression laid,
Emotion revealed as the ocean maid,
As a movement regained and regarded both the same,
All complete in the side of seeds of life with you.

Iii. the preacher the teacher

Sad preacher nailed upon the coloured door of time;
Insane teacher be there reminded of the rhyme.
There'll be no mutant enemy we shall certify;
Political ends, as sad remains, will die.
Reach out as forward tastes begin to enter you.
Ooh, ooh.

I listened hard but could not see
Life tempo change out and inside me.
The preacher trained in all to lose his name;
The teacher travels, asking to be shown the same.
In the end, well agree, well accept, well immortalise
That the truth of the man maturing in his eyes,
All complete in the sight of seeds of life with you.

Coming quickly to terms of all expression laid,
As a moment regained and regarded both the same,
Emotion revealed as the ocean maid,
A clearer future, morning, evening, nights with you.

Iv. apocalypse (anderson/bruford/howe/squire)

And you and I climb, crossing the shapes of the morning.
And you and I reach over the sun for the river.
And you and I climb, clearer, towards the movement.
And you and I called over valleys of endless seas.

I became interested in this and other Progressive Rock bands of the late 60s-early 70s - through a friend/some friends of a music forum I joined about 6 years ago! It has been an extraordinary adventure, getting into
a lot of music that I, otherwise, wouldn't have been inclined to check out!

Ha! You might even say I have become obsessed with my music explorations... but, not really!
Just trying to catch up! ;)

By the way, I've been told that YES lyrics are not always easily understood... and after listening to and reading these lyrics-that statement is 'understandable!' haha !

Nonetheless, I find this music exhilarating to listen to ~ but not songs you'll find yourself singing in the shower!

Poem: Steps TO The Rest Of My Life

Sky Watch Friday post below this one.

~Just a poem from June~

Steps to the Rest of My Life

Today I will pause
on the way to tomorrow,
and I’ll reflect
on yesterday.
I’ll examine the reasons
for my pain and my sorrow-
determine which debts
I must pay!
I’ll retrace the steps
that led me to this-
this cold place of darkness
and fear!
And I’ll slay the dragons
- if they still exist -
and the demons
that invited me here!
I’ll leave them in ashes
and never look back-
get rid of the pain and the strife!
I’ll tentatively take
my first steps to the future-
those steps to the rest of my life!

Blooms In The Rain

It's a dismal, drizzly, day here but I wanted to get out for a few moments to check on my late winter blooms around the yard! This time of year is a little depressing to me, with so much brown in the landscape; so these blooms are a cheery sight.

The red Camellias are in full bloom. I showed a couple of perfect red blooms in my Ruby Tuesday post this week. THIS picture is a shot of the 3 red bushes that I have, showing how abundantly they do bloom; also note the fallen blossoms around the bushes.

( click on pics to enlarge )

I only have one bush of this delicate pink Camellia and I'm sorry this picture is a little blurred.
It is just now coming into bloom- while the red ones have been blooming for awhile now.

Apparently these flowers each have their own time for blooming because a neighbor brought me these blooms below from his place, at least 3 weeks ago.

There are many colors/varieties/sizes of these flowers! Some of these were really spectacular-in color and in size!

The Azaleas are starting to bloom, too. When they are fully bloomed out they are a solid blanket of pink, with barely a bit of the green leaves showing! We have a long, double line of these and they put on quite a show! :)

And here are a couple of early blossoming trees-the Wild Plum, with white blooms and the Red Bud, with pink blooms!

I love all these early blooming plants but they all have very short blooming times!

:) However, they serve to get me in the mood for more flowers to come in Spring and Summer!
