More good stuff about Dan! ( POST 2 OF TODAY...See my Witch below )

This is the album cover (or part of it) of Dan Fogelberg's 'High Country Snows'-produced in 1985.

This is a Bluegrass album- surprisingly -excellent!
Although some of Dan's songs have had a bit of a country sound in earlier albums - this is pure Country Bluegrass.
Some of Country's finest artists were a part of this album-such as Doc Watson, Charlie McCoy, Vince Gill, Rickey Scaggs and other well known names. This album has 7 of Dan's songs and 4 Bluegrass songs written by others! I must say-he does them justice-with help from those other country performers!

I had a comment from a blogging buddy who reminded me of a song by Dan from this album. ( still talking about Autumn , too!)

(sorry- my browser that allows me to make hot-links is not working for me today)

Thanks, Diane! I'm always happy to talk about Dan Fogelberg and listen to his music! I am doing that right now! :)

I also looked up the song lyrics.

The song was
' Go Down Easy'.
..and I remember seeing a video of this song- with Dan, Skiing! Oh-I would love to have that Video- or at least see it again!

Dan Fogelberg (Actually, this was written by Jay Bolotin)

( lyrics below)

Go Down Easy

Linda lost her lover in the early part of autumn
And she moved out to the country
Hoping all would be forgotten.
The last time that I saw her
She was makin' sure the winter
Wouldn't come through that old door frame
Where the door is several inches from the ground,
The cold hard ground.

(Chorus)
And it's hard to go down easy;
And it's hard to keep from cryin';
And it's hard to lose a lover
In the early part of autumn.

Well, she learned to cook the meals
And she learned to start the fire;
And she learned to make jewelry
Out of stones and precious metals.
She sits down to the table
With her friends and several others
And she tries real hard to never be alone.

(Chorus)

Now the winter wind blows cold
Upon a fair and gentle soul
And she feels as if her time is passin' easy.
Her friends are sometimes lovers,
Though they'll always be another
She thinks about when the night time lays on down.

(Chorus) twice

Two other really good songs on this album are:

'Sutter's Mill' (about the California gold rush)
and
'High Country Snows'

( both Dan's songs )

This is a superb album!

  4. :)
    I have always loved Dan's soft rock sound-but this 'High Country Snows' proved he can handle more than those sweet, mellow melodies!

    I miss him. Don't like thinking that he may never be able to give us any more of his wonderful music.

  6. Hi Margaret,

    Yes, that is a really good album, too.

    It was unusual for Dan Fogelberg to do a country-bluegrass album, but it was done well. Even my husband liked it and he likes nothing but country and bluegrass!

    I hope your day is a good one.

  7. He is a terrific singer. I have his greatest hits and High Country Snows, kind of a departure from his regular stuff but terrific none the less.

  8. Doug,

    I love everything that Dan Fogelberg has done!
    (Although Bluegrass isn't my favorite music)

    ....and I guess his first 3-or 4 albums would be my favorites - Home Free-Souviners-Captured Angel-Netherlands -

    I also like EXILES a lot, too!

    :) Can't think of ANY that I don't like!

    Dan's "High Country Snows" is one of my favorite albums of his. I do like Bluegrass and Country music. Infact I have a wide taste in music, likeing most. There are some things that I don't consider to be music, so I can't say that I care for them!

    I saw Dan in Nashville while he was touring for "High Country Snows". It was one of the best concerts that I ever attended. He was at The Opry and it was so High Energy!! Ricky Scaggs came out and so did Vince Gill. Was really a great treat for EVERyONe in the audience!

    I had a chance to meet him again, there and my friend blew it! I should have just told her "Bye-Bye"!!!

  11. Sherry,
    Oh my! I bet that WAS a good concert!

    My husband, who is a true country and bluegrass fan, was impressed with Dan's work on that album!
    He was GREAT on that album! I especially love 'Sutter's Mill' on that one - and 'Wandering Shepherd'...lol- and ALL of them! And he had a great line-up of country music artists on that album!!

    I think I have seen Dan 11 times in concert (maybe 12-would have to back track)...and had planned to see him again when he cancelled that last tour! I was just so devastated with the news of his illness as I am sure all of his fans were!
    We had seen him on his last tour-the Full Circle tour- in Atlanta!

    Another of my favorites is the album 'Exiles'...also referred to as The Divorce album sometimes!
    There's such deep feelings in some of those songs...makes you just wish you could hug him and make things better! :)

    ~~~I never again tried to get backstage after that one time in '75 (I think ) I didn't want to take the chance of having a bad experience :) so I just remember that early encounter, when he was still new in the business-and more accessible! Also-I never tried again to get pictures- afraid I might be asked to leave the concert!!~~~
    I wish we could hear some good news of his recovery!
