OK...
The early 60s had me occupied with my babies, (as the post below shows) while most of the country (and the world??) was being engulfed in 'Beatlemania!'
;) It's really a bit comical, (knowing what a phenomenal force the Beatles became) to know how untouched I was by it all! ;) Yes, I'm sure I would hear their songs, but I really don't remember being overwhelmed with their music at all.
I DO remember playing the music of Peter, Paul and Mary, especially 'Puff The Magic Dragon,' with my little boy. He loved the story of Puff, The Magic Dragon! My girls really were just babies in the early 60s, so it was mostly Christopher and me who enjoyed 'Puff!'
It was all about doing things with my babies in those early days! So that's how I missed out on the Beatles! :)
It was a good trade-off...and my 'mommy' days memories are the best ones I have!
~~~
Each thing has it's own time slot in our lives, IMO,
And...all those years ago of the early Beatles was just not my time for them!
NOW is my time! (The past 2 years, to be more exact) For instance- last night I played ' A Hard Day's Night' and then I ended the listen with 'Rubber Soul.'
Wanted to do more but it got too late, too early! :)
I enjoyed it, more than I can say!
Found this on YouTube ~ 'A Hard Day's Night' ~ for your viewing pleasure!
Enjoy,
Junie Rose
They are about the last group that I paid any attention to and even then it wasn't so very much. I keep meaning to put them on my iPod but keep forgetting.
ReplyDeleteTo Anvilcloud,
ReplyDeleteI have come to love and appreciate the music of The Beatles...but only in recent years!
...not that I dis-liked them in those early times- but just that my priorities were different!
(I was doing kid music with my 3 little ones!)
Then by the early 70s I had discovered the wonderful Dan Fogelberg! :) In my opinion- the very best ever.
Junie
I also remember Puff the Magic Dragon. One of the children I babysat loved to listen to that at bedtime. The Beatles were right around our high school years so we had lots of exposure to them.
Hi Susie,
ReplyDeleteI, being just a few years ahead of you, was already a young mom when the Beatles came on the scene.
...I'm enjoying catching up on all the music - all those years when I didn't pay a lot of attention to it!
Thanks, and I hope things are good with you today.
Hugs))
Junie
I liked the Beatles back then but I wasn't wild about them or anything like that. Dan Fogelberg was really good!
ReplyDeleteHi Rachel,
ReplyDeleteDan Fogelberg was the very best IMO!
I will miss Dan very much.
(but will cherish what he gave us over those 30 + years)
Your description of being a mom with babies fits me and the 80s!
ReplyDeleteI remember when the shuttle Challenger blew up, somebody called and said to turn on the tv.
Well, we were having lunch, one son barely sitting still as it was, one in a booster, one in the high chair, and I had just gotten everybody's food cut into pieces, and lids on sippy cups, and it was Quiet for a few minutes.
I'll be doggone if I was going to ruin my peace and turn on the television!
It didn't matter that I missed the first day news, because there have been so many reruns and anniversary commemorations.
I'm not sure the music of the 80s was worth it the first time around, so I don't listen much to it even now.
There were many good movies I like from those years, so I keep renting or buying dvds at yard sales.
Something came up during conversation in the Break Room the other day.
A woman's brother had died of AIDS in the mid-80s, and she seemed a bit wary of mentioning that.
I told her that a couple of my friends had also succumbed in those beginning years, before scientists caught on as to how it spread and who is most vulnerable.
My sons don't remember a time without the disease.
Young mother memory loss goes on. We had a congregational meeting at church, discussion of the financial budget for the coming year.
I looked around, and almost everybody there was of the age to have their children in late elementary school.
Parents of younger children don't have enough leftover energy to worry about church politics.
Our Founding Fathers must have recognized this, and set an age limit for someone to be President.
Haven't I jumped around subjects and rambled enough?
I did try to stay on the subject of Age, though.
Dear Diane,
ReplyDeleteWell, I certainly enjoyed all of your memories and comments here.
....And I guess most young moms -IF they were devoted to their babies- missed out on a lot of the happenings around them! Some I remember, tho, didn't let having babies slow them down, as far as their social activities went! ( And some sad endings among some of them!) I never regretted putting my kids first. Besides- it was FUN!
You know what? I have participated in message board/forums a lot (book - music- political) and, although I enjoy blogging very much, I have missed the more involved discussions that you can get into in the forums...because the 'threads' in those can continue on and on.
Because of my past involvements in message boards, here with my blog, I almost always reply to the comments I get here. (most don't do it that way in the blogs...but I still do!) Sometimes mini conversations continue for awhile! :) That's good!
Thanks a lot, Diane.
When I worked as a TA in a daycare center Baby Room, I could recognize the different personality traits of both the mothers and their babies.
ReplyDeleteSome mothers, while definitely did love their babies, I could tell this just wasn't a great season of life for them and they need the stimulation of having something else to do beside wipe noses and bottoms.
One was the manager of a department in our local major corporation, the boss of 17 underlings.
She thought my job was difficult.
Another mom was much more nurturing towards the baby, but her older, school-age son was a royal pain in the butt for his class teachers.
My husband wasn't good at all with our babies, but my goodness, when the sons hit age 10 through high school, with their Science Fair projects, and the learning to drive the car, and change the inner tube on the bicycle tires....
jeepers, DAD was first in line as an enthusiastic mentor for the males of the whole neighborhood.
Everybody has a personal preference, attitude adjustment, I guess.
And you are not old yet.
My mother-in-law just had birthday 80, and she hopped on an airplane to go be with her mother having surgery--at age 99.
There are ladies in my Yarn Group who are in their high 80s, still knitting lovely hats for foster children and other charity events, and coming in every Thursday afternoon to chat and compare family tales.
Diane,
ReplyDeleteHi again, and thanks for your comments.
You're right...we are all different and approach mothering, and life, in different ways- etc.
I really didn't have much of a choice when my kids were little,(of being a stay at home mom) as our $$ situation was tight and I'd have no way to afford a sitter to seek employment...even if I had been qualified for anything! Lol- which- of course- I wasn't.
Long story- but I got married (the first time) a little before I reached age 17- and my first child was born when I was barely 18. Then , Chas. and I married just before I was 20.
I had my 2 girls very close together, before I was 23! SO, I had 3 little ones under age 4.
My husband was on the police dept.- and worked every extra job he could to make ends meet for us! And was gone from home a lot of hours each week.
lol- so - it's a good thing I didn't mind being a stay at home mother in those early years!
:) My first marriage lasted less than a year- but my second has lasted awhile! Looks like it might work out! :) Will be 47 years in April.
Oh my! More info than was needed but, what the heck! There's no secrets about me!
Thanks for saying I'm not old yet! ;) Most of the time I can agree with you, too!
Diane, your church group sounds very nice. You know I have always admired all the things you do to help others!
Thanks'
June
Aw, Thanks! the pleasure is all mine
ReplyDeleteI'd be really nuts if I didn't know how to work with a yarn and hook.
I'm terrible with plants (either indoor or outside garden), and decorating (we've had the same wallpaper in the kitchen since we moved in too many years ago).
This evening, I had a bit of a panic in that I could not find the size I hook I've been using on my nephew's aphgan. I looked so many places, and had just about concluded that it had fallen out of my bag in some parking lot (even though I make sure I close the zipper every. single. time).
Finally, I just got crying mad and dumped the whole kaboodle out onto the couch.
There it was, caught in the pile of yarn scraps. Apparently, rather than going into the hook pouch, it had slipped off to the side before I zipped shut, then worked its way down to the bottom.
Whewee! only 9 more stripes and the border to finish, and it really isn't good to change the hook in middle of project.
Gotta go. Cat is between me and screen, meaning his bowl needs to be filled.
~~love and Huggs, Diane
