Goodbye Sunshine

Today something very sad has happened. Charles went down to check on his cows and discovered 'Sunshine' dead! No apparent cause and she was fine just yesterday!

Sunshine is a cow we have had for at least 10 years and I have lots of fond memories connected with her.

My granddaughter, Alli, and I discovered her right after she was born one bright , sunny morning. Alli was a little girl- probably not yet in school. We had gone down on the golf cart to check on things, as we were expecting the mom (Carmel) to have her baby at any time! What a thrill for us both to find this newborn calf! We named her 'Sunshine,' inspired by the bright, sunny day!

She grew into a beautiful big and healthy cow and gave us several calves over the years.

~~~
This is Sunshine and one of her calves that I remember...a little bull calf I named Tommy. (sold at a few months old)
He looked just like his mom! I remember this one because, as it happened, this calf was born on my mom's birthday (Jan.6)
Charles had to call someone to come and dispose of our cow. What their name/title is -I don't know - but it's their business to take care of these things. The man told Charles the cow probably died of heat stroke...that there have been other, recent cases like this!
:( Sorry!
Not a happy story today!
It's not like the cows become pets ...but this one- for the reasons stated- felt special to me.
I'm back home again!
I came by to catch up with you, and I am so sorry to read this sad news. Sunshine brought sunshine into your lives, and now she is gone. How sad.
Pets make their way into our lives, and many family memories are centered around pets.
I'm glad you and Ally will always have that special memory of finding newborn Sunshine that very sunny day.
Hi June ~~ So sorry to hear of Sunshine's passing. My daughter recently found a 10 yr old horse dead in the paddock, so it is sad, but it
wasn't heat stroke here - heart they say. Thanks for your comments, glad you enjoy the jokes and photos.
Thanks for your good wishes for Joh
on his joining the Army. I am glad your sister had a nice birthday, great photos in that post. Take care, June,Love, Merle.
Thanks Pea,
Well, Sunshine was one of our nicer and prettier cows-and there are good memories attached with her (since Alli and I found her and named her-all those years ago)
I am so sorry to hear of your loss. I love how Sunshine's life was woven so tightly into your relationship with your granddaughter. No doubt, she will always carry this important memory with her.
I found your link on B13's site and just had to drop by and say hello. I'm sorry I had to find you on a sad day, but I'm glad I crossed your path nonetheless, as you seem like the kind of person I want to read again and again.
May you and your family know no further sorrow.
I'm sorry for your loss. If you've had a critter for 10 years, I would consider her a 'pet' especially after seeing her the first morning she was born!
Heatstroke?! I read this just as my husband rides away on his bicycle in 93o weather!
He came home on his lunch hour to get something he forgot this morning. I told him next time he should call me and I'll deliver with the car ....
Thanks Merle for your kind words.
It was just so unexpected with this healthy cow- as she looked fine the day before. Scary that the heat can cause these things...
Diane,
Thanks for your kind words about the cow. Well, it was just a shock to have a healthy animal die like that.
The heat is terrible all over, it seems!
I did a little bit of gardening and was almost over come with the heat! I decided I better just let it go! Have been really beat down all afternoon!
Hope you get your blogger stuff figured out- I mainly use firefox because I have problems with other browsers- signing in!
Take care,
Junie
I've got Firefox going fine.
No, it's Blogger, on every Blogger blog I go to.
I can't seem to make the Help understand, hey, the problem is technical, and my own doggone computer is FINE everywhere else but Blogger blogs.
