Ginga's Valentine

Sweet memories...

( Click to enlarge)

In 1986, from Jan 22 to Feb 11, We were visiting our daughter, son-in-law and our first 2 grandsons at Fort Ord, Ca.

They had moved out to Ca just a month before. Tina and the babies had lived with us
( or near us) most of the 3 years since the birth of Dan. (our first grandchild) I had taken care of the boys for my daughter to work.

Needless to say, it was tough on the old grandparents to have these 2 fine boys move away! ....And we didn't wait very long to visit them - our first of 2 visits to Ca. I was able to stay a few extra days and fly back later by myself!

My little 'grand boys' were just under one and three years. Brian learned to walk while I was there. (9-1/2 mo.) Dan would be 3 in March.

You can tell by this picture with the boys, that this was just where I wanted to be! I had found my calling in being a grandmother!...Dan gave me the name 'Ginga,' so that was who I  would be to the 3 'grands' that came after him, too! :) I loved that special name he gave me!

A few days after my sad but inevitable return home I got this Valentine from my sweet kids! Tina had made heart cookies for the boys and she asked Dan what she should write on them. Dan said, "write -I Love Ginga!" She did and mailed this very special Valentine to me! I spray varnished it and bought a little holder to hold it upright and put it in one of my doll cabinets! I have kept it there for 21 years!

Yes!
This is one of my most cherished Valentines!

Love,

Ginga

Mellow Yellow Monday ~ Aug 24, 2009

~~~
It's Mellow Yellow Monday again!
It's time to share some of the 'Yellows' in our lives!
***Go here to find lots of other yellow pictures!***
This guy that I am showing was once a constant companion to my first grandson, Daniel!
Dan, at age 2-3-4... made up long adventure stories with Curious George, most times, the main character! Often Snoopy and others were along too, on these adventures! And , of course, the stories included Dan himself and ME! (Ginga) :) We had some exciting times in those days - Dan and me and all these guys!
My boy is now grown up, of course...
...but do you know where 'Curious George' lives?
Yep-you got it! He has a special place in my house - and- in my heart!
Halloweens of the past!
Happy Halloween!
This Halloween has been different in that I have done almost nothing to decorate! For the first time in many, many years I have not carved even one Jack-O-Lantern! ;( And I didn't get out any of my scary guys and witches!! I can hardly believe I didn't...but it's true!! I don't like it this way but it just turned out to be impossible to do anything this time!
I still miss the years of fun we had with the kids...our own kids and then the 4 grand kids!
Oh well...that's the way it goes in our ever changing lives. We just have to relive those times in memory and - thank goodness - I have my photos!! :)
Here are just a few memories from past Halloweens!
Tina and Alli
This is a little part of Tina and Alli's excellent adventure to California and Oregon.
They got home yesterday and came up to show us their pictures and share their stories! Actually, Alli transported ALL her pictures and videos into my computer...LOL- all 894 of them!! Really that many!! :) I put them all on disks and will delete them, so as not to use up all that space in my picture program.
Alli will write about the trip and concert adventures on her blog, I'm sure.
I just want to post a few pics ( mainly for family ) ....All I know about the pics are that they are in California and /or Oregon. Well, some are self- explanatory, of course.
Enjoy!
Happy Birthday Dan!
Happy Birthday Dan!
Today is Daniel's birthday! (our oldest grandson)
This is Dan at age 3 - when the family was stationed at Fort Ord, Ca!
He always loved his books!
We didn't get to see Dan today, but the family will be together on Easter and we will have a double celebration! :) Looking forward to seeing everyone again!
~~~

I'm not sure about other grandmothers but this one ( Ginga ) sure misses the old days when all the grands were growing up with us here at our country place. I think they all have fond memories of those days! I know I do! These were the best times of my life!

This is a pretty recent picture of my daughter , Tina, with her grown-up kids, Dan, Brian and Allison!

~~~
OK~ one might think I still have little ones around, judging by the kind of things I buy! For an example...look at what I bought today! This will be for next week when everyone comes over on Easter. (And for Dan's birthday, too)
I also bought a couple of rose bushes with some blooms, which I plan to keep in the house for decoration until after Easter! They are called 'Pink Knock-Out.' It's a hardy rose. ( which I need!!) I bought several of the 'Red-Knock-Outs' last year and they are a good variety for me to grow! EASY!
~~~

PEEPS!!

Yep!

And I plan to color eggs, too ~ 2 doz maybe! :)

OK~ no kids to hunt them but I'll have them anyway!

I can't let go all the traditions...not just yet!

Our Day...and a sad ending

We had the family here today for a birthday dinner for Chris ( a few days late)- and also to all be together with Tina before her surgery tomorrow. Brian was unable to come because of his work schedule but he will see his mom tomorrow, I'm sure.

We all felt guilty to be able to eat all that good food and Tina only able to be on clear liquids! :( We'll have to make it up to her when this is all over.

She has to be at the hospital at 11:00 tomorrow and the surgery will be a couple hours after that. Charles and I, her husband Marc and daughter Alli will be there for sure-and maybe the boys.

Here are some pics of our day.

**We missed Brian!**

~~~~
The very sad ending to this day was that I finally had to let my little dog Sadie go.
I lacked the courage- far too long - but late today I realized it was time...way passed
time...
I told my husband to please just get her to a vet in the morning before I woke up. He said he'd do it now...would be better not to wait and let her suffer through another night... And, although my heart was breaking I had to agree... It was the only choice!
( He knew a vet to call )
I won't dwell on this after this post . I will just say that this was one of the hardest things I have ever had to do...to make the decision to end the life of a pet. I loved the little girl...I had, so, hoped she could get better...
Goodbye, little Sadie girl.
Love,
Junie
