Way Back

Having fun at FaceBook the past few days. It's 'Way Back' week and a lot of people are posting pictures of themselves from the past! We were asked to put an old pic on as a profile picture! This one I used on the profile is when I was in 7th. grade - age 13. :)








You know me... when I get on a subject I take it and run with it...lol- to the extreme sometimes...but that's just the way it is with me.....soo... This 2nd pic is me and my sister-in the Way Back- at ages 7 and 10!

I'm enjoying the FB thing as well as blogging these days and am very happy my sister FINALLY got interested...well- at least she's on FB!

(Makes it more fun for me-YAH!!)

Health update on C.

I just want to take the time here to update on Charles' procedure yesterday.

As stated earlier he had an appointment with a cancer surgery doctor early yesterday.

We made the appointment on time. The place is about 50 miles from our home so we had to get up very early for the 8:00 AM appointment, but we were able to manage it.

The procedure of cutting out and examining tissue of the troublesome spot involved, and then waiting until lab results were reached, lasted about 3 hours, all totaled.

In the end, a spot the size of a nickle and almost as deep as the width, was cut out.

The doctor said the cancer cells had gone deep and he can not guarantee that they got it all. This spot is in the left temple.

The spot will have to be watched very closely for any further changes in the tissues there.

He'll go back in 10 days to have the stitches removed and for additional surgery to another spot on his arm which, also, has been diagnosed as Basil Cell Carcinoma.

All we can do is hope and pray for the best.

Last night we watched the VP debate and THAT was a bright spot in our long day!

It may not matter, in the end results, but we were happy to see SARAH PALIN do so well in this debate.

To NORTH ALABAMA! (our trip #4)

Lol! ... and I bet you didn't even know there was a NORTH Alabama! ;)

Oh, well- you must excuse my feeble attempts with my jokes! :)
It has just always struck me as kinda funny- to hear it called NORTH Alabama, 'cause we're certainly the deep south there, and proudly hold on to the traditions!

Our destination was Priceville, (near Decatur) where we would have our home base for the few days there, with my brother and sister in law! The reunion was with Charles' family in Athens, just 15 miles or so north of there! The 2 sides of our families being that close makes it much easier for us to visit. It's always good to have a place to set up for awhile, rather than lug all our stuff from one place to the other!

Things seem to get harder as we age! Has anyone else noticed that? ;)
Many thanks to my brother and his wife for making it easier for us!

...But first...on the way NORTH we went through Springville and visited Pleasant Hill. This was to pay our respects to my dad and so many others of my kin-folks. Dad has been gone since 1963. He died at the too early age of 59 years! I always take Dad yellow flowers whenever we visit up there! Yellow was his favorite color!

Mom and Daddy both were born and grew up in this part of Alabama. We moved to Fl when I was quite young so I only have very early memories of living in Alabama. I have written about some of them in my 'Mom' blog.

I DO have some early memories of Pleasant Hill, as all the family would go there on 'Decoration' day. This was in May for our Pleasant Hill folks! It was a big-all day- event...dinner on the ground...visiting with relatives...remembering our loved ones... I don't think that happens as much these days!

James Cummings Hallmark, one of the founders of Pleasant Hill church, was my mother's grandfather.

( It made me sad when they tore down the original church several years ago to build a new one on the opposite end of the cemetery!

... :) You know how much I do not like change!)




























My mom's original plan was to be there too...but late in her life she changed her mind, as Florida had been her home for so many years. I have, and will always have, mixed feelings about this. In a way I feel that's where Mom should be...but in a way I'm comforted a little to have her here in our town! I know it doesn't really matter because Mom and Dad, both, will always be here - in my heart!

Oh! Forgive me for rambling on so...

( ...but she's old...lol- and it IS her blog! ) :)

Halloween's a-coming!

I have always loved the Fall season-and a big part of that, of course, has always been the Halloween fun with my kids, and later, with my grandkids!

I don't remember doing Halloween stuff with the kids until they were in school. ( ...Being parents was new to us...:) took us a little while to get the HANG of it, I guess!)

When our kids were growing up we lived in a 'Safe' neighborhood in SouthDade-Miami, Fl. No one worried about letting the kids roam the neighborhood for Trick or Treats! My kids and their friends would take Pillowcases for their goodies and come home with the bags 2/3s full! :) Probably the most dangerous part of the night was all that SUGAR the kids consumed! But they had fun!

The girls continued dressing up and doing Halloween with their friends until their early teens...in later years, raiding their dad's and my closets for whatever they could use to put together a costume!

In my own early childhood, I don't remember being involved in Trick or Treat activities...but DO remember seeing books with pictures of pumpkins and Halloween things. They were always a little scary to me- LOL- as they are intended to be!!

Fun Times!

I remember one Halloween during those years when Charles didn't feel up to doing the passing out of treats so decided to put a big bowl of candy out -using the honor system! He even put a sign up - telling kids to take just 3 pieces! Well- as you might imagine that bowl of candy was soon empty! Probably the first little goblin who came by took the whole bowl of candy!

Lol- for all I know, it may have been my own kids! :)
