Junie's Place: Tragedy!

Tragedy!

Charles and I were out for dinner and came upon a most horrible scene that we had known nothing about, having seen no local news today.

As we neared home, on the road that runs just north of the beginning of the air strip that is used by residents of the Flyer community of Jumbolair, we saw a huge congregation of cars, police cars... cameras set up....lots of people milling around. We managed to get just a little information of an accident, but no details. ( except 5 deaths involved) We hurried home and found this information online here! The beginning of this runway ( or maybe the end of it- not sure which way it goes) is a bit more than a mile from us, but we hadn't heard about the horrible accident.

This is the place where John Travolta has a home...as well as others who fly and use the runway there. The first thought for me was that it had been some sort of air craft accident! But no...it was something less explainable...and more horrible!

This is such a sad and tragic story!

That is so awful and sad. All those young people dead and alcohol to blame. I certainly feel for all the families involved.

How horrible!!
Those crazy, stupid kids. As I read that link, I realized all those kids were around the same ages as my kids and some of your grandkids.
What heartbreak!
I suppose they were drunk and pretending to fly or take off of the runway. I can't imagine seeing such a scene. That would haunt me for life if I was one of the first people to come upon that awful scene.
Their poor families are in such agony right now.
God help them all.

Hi June ~~ What a tragedy so near your home. Those kid's parents will be heart-broken and their lives changed forever, because of alcohol.

I am so sorry you are still having
trouble sleeping. I hope you get some relief, but take great care with that drug. I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers. Love, Merle.

Sorry to hear of this. I haven't paid attention to the news lately or surely would have heard about that.
I had a 19 year old niece killed with others in a head on by a drunk driver who crossed the center line hit them.
I've also lost a nephew in a car wreck. All of this is beyond explanation and the poor families will have to find the strength to live through it themselves.
As far as blogstock is concerned I'm pretty sure there is a highway that runs from your place to Nebraska. The reason I know is that I've been to your neck of the woods before. :)

Thanks, all of you, for your comments.

Yes, JD, just kids the ages of some of my grands and your 2 kids. The reports refer to them as 'men' but I think of them as 'boys!'

This story was the first thing that popped into my head when I awoke today-and the follow up story puts faces to these lost boys! A lot of things haven't been confirmed ...like- if they were drinking-and if there was another car involved!
A lot more will come out of this- to be sure!

If either of these things prove to be true, there has to be ppl out there with a lot of guilt and regret!
...For instance-the boys had been to a private party earlier where alcohol was served ... Also, if another car was involved in drag racing ...then there might be another bunch of 'kids' out there-with a lot of guilt and possibly, a lot of trouble ahead of them!

All we can do is offer our prayers for the family and friends of these lost boys!

Such a senseless tragedy!

Dear Merle,

Concerning the pills for sleep- I don't think I will be taking them often-and when I do it will be the smallest dose. The past 2 night s I have been able to get to sleep without taking anything...by staying up later!

My comment above was for you too- concerning the tragedy here.

Thanks,

June

Hi Cliff,

Thanks for stopping by.

Yes, a very tragic thing-and so close to us... little more than a mile...and just one street over from our road....Also- the ages of those boys are near the ages of my grandkids...so it hit me hard!

We have also had relatives killed in accidents-my nephew and his daughter died together in a motorcycle accident just 3 years ago! A drunk driver pulled out in front of him!

This, tho, seems so senseless! I feel, so, for the families and friends of these 'kids!'

...About that road that leads from Fl to BlogStock... I'm sure it's there- but it's LONG! :) As things are here it's almost impossible for Chas to have more than a day or 2 , to get away from his cow deal! :) I wish he would retire! :)

I know I would enjoy meeting some of my blog buddies!

Take care,

Junie

I saw that on the news....it just upsets me so to think of all the people that are killed or hurt because of alcohol....here in toledo we had on new years eve 5 people killed (a mother and her 4 children, one was 2 months old) because a drunk driver left a bar in Oregon and went down the wrong way on 280....wiped them out...a father and one child lived...and then we had another young girl crash because of alcohol...in fact I believe we had 4 alcohol related accidents in around 2 weeks....this story hit national news too....

You don't have to be the one drinking you just have to be in the wrong spot at the wrong time.. My heart goes out to the survivors, and there families....

Yes, Judy, there are a lot of horror tales concerning drinking and driving...

But in this case I can't even put this in the category of a driving accident...but, rather, a crazy dare-devil stunt!
Drinking may have played a part in it- It hasn't yet been determined...but that young man set out to see how fast he could get that BMW to go!

What a senseless tragedy!!!
