We use PB because we constantly keep traps at the ready in the garage, and PB works better in that case.

I've heard if you put the cheese or peanutbutter on the trap...don't set it the first day...then set it and BAM you've got that critter!

Yes. Peanut butter works well.
We had infestations of mice when we lived in CA.

Well, we DID reset the traps with peanut butter but no activity at all! We also put out D-con so maybe it got to that and left! Have to assume the little critter left-as I see no signs of it being here anymore!
