These girls must be thinking

'Spring'

in their pretty Mellow Yellow print dresses!

...And, even though, this girl is
wearing a light sweater -
notice she has chosen a pretty yellow-spring-like color!

:)

I'm ready to say bye bye to the cold days and nights !

Santas-Old and New

...Some more of my Santas I've collected (and made) over the years...

I really love the older ones...the little elf-like figures (ornaments)-These are cardboard usually; also some are made with small pine cones for the bodies.

Also love the made in Germany - Candy holders! These are usually cardboard and come apart with a place inside that originally was filled with candy!

I have several of the 'Dancing santas too! They are covered with a felt-like material and look as tho they are dancing! (from 50s-60s)

These pictures show older and newer santas!

A Christmas memory from the 'Way Back!'

(This has been posted before. I pulled it from my blog site about my early memories of Mom. As always, this season brings a flood of memories of her back!)

Christmas Eve

This memory is a favorite Christmas memory of mine! It was probably 1946 or 47...not sure!
(I wish I could ask Mom!)

Christmas Eve!
Heavy Alabama snow fall!
Night-the whitest white!
Too cold to venture out-
but we must -one last time before bed,
to the outhouse.

We then get snug and Mama tells us stories
of the Baby Jesus, of his mother, Mary - of
Joseph, the Shepherds, the Wise Men,
the Angels. We sing “Silent Night,"
“Away In a Manger” and feel,
through Mama’s words, the wonder of
HIS birth!

Being little girls, too, we feel the excitement
–the anticipation- of Santa’s visit and
wonder what he’ll bring us! We have no doubt
he will come, as we search the skies
through the frosty window; hoping for a glimpse of him.

As usually happens with children and Santa,
sleep came to us before Santa did!

The morning proved our faith well placed,
as this was the year we found our
Betsy Wetsy baby dolls under the tree, along with
puzzles, a spinning top and books!

...A book about Santa...
and a book about the real Christmas, the birth of Baby Jesus.

days in the life...

~~~
One day last week my sweet daughter Tina asked me if I wanted to go shopping.
Here we are - ready to go!!
Of course I wanted to go because we have a wedding to attend in October! I needed to shop for a new outfit to wear. I mentioned this before...about my difficulties in finding something!
Well, as it turned out this outing with Tina produced 2 possibilities...though I'm not sure... and not at all thrilled with either of them. I'll still keep looking for a pretty dress...but if all else fails I will wear one of these blouses with a nice pair of blue silk slacks I already have!
( lol- at least I know I will have something other than my jeans-haha- or a dress that's 15 years old!)
As you see both these blouses are fall colors so even if I find something else I'll find these useful through the fall and winter season here!
(Oh, my- the trials of Junie Rose...)
Tina and I had a nice time out together...but we were missing our Alli!
We had a good lunch at Cracker Barrel. I love that place-the food-AND the store!
I bought this cute chicken candle holder!
(The big guy behind is not new!!)
Tina was also up Sunday..You see, we have this thing going...each Sunday Tina comes up with her scale and we each weigh. ( Charles, Tina and me...also Alli when she was home) It helps keep us on track to know that we all will be weighing-all in plain view of each other- each week! haha....Well...I'm happy to report I had a good wt. loss this past week...more than 3 pounds!!
YAY for Ginga!! :)
(Tina and Lucy)
Today I had a Dr. appointment...My BAD Cholesterol is a little out of whack! For the first time I'm on medication for that now! Dang it! Have to change that if I can! I go back in Nov. and am determined to have a much better report!
As we were about to leave for the appointment I asked C. to get my picture with my new baby. LOL- she looks like she could be my baby for real, doesn't she? (with her blue eyes and blond curls)
(lol- silly old girl - Junie Rose...or is that 'Ginga?')
Have a good night, my friends!
Love,
Junie
Shadow Shot Sunday ~ (for Sept 13, 2009)
Shadow Shot Sunday
for
Sept 13, 2009
*Go here to find other Shadow Shots!*
My husband, having grown up in the country,
is drawn to things like this; and, to be honest-
so am I! :)
We stopped at a junk yard (on a recent trip to North West Florida)
and found the neatest collection of old farm implements!
I liked the shadows these old machines cast!
New dolls
~~~
Here are some dolls I bought today!

Aren't they pretty!! :)

I loved the little baby doll. This Seymour Mann collector doll is almost life size and very realistic. She came with the high chair for display, also!

AND...

I'm always drawn to any doll that is dressed in holiday Attire and this little girl holding a Christmas Carol book and singing and dressed in her fur trimmed cape caught my eye right away! She will be a perfect addition for my Christmas displays!

...Then there's this beautiful lady doll...

~~~
The way all this came about was like this...
Yesterday I got an email from a niece, telling me that her long time friend who lives in Altamont Springs (Orlando) was having a garage sale this weekend. My niece, Evie, remembered that I collect dolls and knew I'd be interested in this opportunity to see these.
Oh! Yes!! :) You ALL know how I love dolls!
Charles agreed we could ride down and check them out.
These dolls were part of the collection of Evie's friend's mother who had passed away about a year ago. I had met my niece's friend just once, but it was many years past. She was such a nice lady to talk with ...was pleased to let some of her mom's dolls go to someone who would appreciate them and take care of them.
I had decided on the baby and the little Christmas girl...but I really was also attracted to the beautiful lady doll. The colors were perfect for my living room, as my couches in there are rose colored.
Cathie insisted on giving me this one, too. She said,"This is for my mom!" :)
Of course I will enjoy having this pretty lady in my living room!
~~~

We got to see our granddaughter too, as we were not far from her college. Alli met us for lunch. She suggested this BBQ place! The food was very good and the place was decorated in a fun way; lots and lots of pigs! :)

A few pics:

It was a very nice day for us!

Hope you've all had a good one.

Love,
Junie
