Our Ride Today & BBQ Party

Our Ride Today

Today was the perfect blue-sky day for a ride- just cool enough for a light denim shirt-
jacket!

We took a long –round about- ride that ultimately led us to our favorite sandwich shop in Gainesville! Hogan’s Heros!

We saw a lot of motorcycles out today…most heading toward Daytona Beach - Bike Week! We didn’t want to do that this time!

I am still unfamiliar with my new camera!! (READ THE BOOK-JUNIE!!!) So- my pics are not good! Posting some, anyway_ because it was our day- and a fun day!!

Last night we were invited to a neighbor’s home for a BBQ, and went, of course.
These people are farmer / ranchers – They have cattle, horses, goats, donkeys, chickens, ducks, DOGS!!! My husband knows them through his cow business, but I did not know any of them at all!

We had learned beforehand that they would be cooking a WHOLE pig. I had never seen that done before…only having had experiences with RIBS or chops cooked on the grill…
The cooking method at this cookout was one I had never seen before -as the cooking box was underneath and the charcoal on a rack above the meat being cooked!

Our host proudly moved aside the hot rack on top so that we could see the feast being prepared below… The first rack held 3 or 4 huge, whole chickens …must have been roosters as he said one weighed 9 lbs! He moved aside that rack to show us what was on the bottom! There- to dazzle the eyes and senses- was a WHOLE pig, including the head and hooves! I was totally taken by surprise- as un-worldly as I am!! ☺ There’s many customs, I am sure, that I am not aware of…

My husband and I and just a few others were the only people who spoke English at this gathering…these are Cuban-American folks- our new neighbors! No friendlier people can one ever hope to meet!

The party consisted mostly of eating the PIG and chickens…along with black beans and rice and salad.
I was pleased to find the white wine on the bar… so that helped some! :)

At the end of the meal was the Flan! I enjoyed that - and hope to get the recipe from our hostess!

This farmer and his partner just yesterday ‘borrowed’ our bull ‘Bo’ for ‘ servicing purposes.’ They have a small herd of cows but had no bull! Here in the country people help each other out that way and Charles was happy to lend Bo out! The plan was that they would keep him for about a week to insure that he did a complete job of their herd of cows. As it turned out they had him back in his own pasture early today. Seems old Bo went a little wild and broke through neighboring fences to get to MORE cows! Probably cows who did not need the mixed heritage of Old Bo messing things up! There might be some surprises among those cow owners, in about 9 months! :) Who knows how far Bo went before being found out?

Lol- there were jokes mentioning Viagra but Charles, not knowing the language, didn’t get it all!

We can only guess… :)

Life on the farm…

Bo and Charles- but not recent!
I call that pic 'Lotta Bull!' (Bo, of course, is who I mean!! :) )

The other pics are from today!

Those sandwiches look awfully good. Sound like you and Charles had a really nice day; and what a great barbecue too. I haven't been to one in quite a long time.

Yes! It was a fun day for us and those sandwiches are the best ever!

And the BBQ the night before was fun too- just a little different! :)

:) Thanks!

-Charles is seldom without hair on his face! Most men are improved with a beard-IMHO!

This was a couple ago -Old Bo has grown since then! Chas says he weights about 2,ooo pounds! (Bo, that is!! haha)
A LOT of hamburger there!!
Thanks for your visit!
