Rainy day

12:05

Rainy, gloomy day here in the 'Sunshine State.' It's the kind of day that always brings me down.

...Oh, well- we'll see what the day brings...One never knows what may be in store ~ "Do one??" :)

LOL- I'm counting on something exciting happening before the end of the day!! We'll see!

WOW! See...things DO get better and we shouldn't despair!

Look what I just found on Youtube! I was looking for
' Get Out Old Dan's Records'
but I found this!

This is a song by Gordon Lightfoot that I used to play, over and over ~ for the sheer beauty of it! I hadn't heard it (except in memory) for a long time - as I only have it on an LP.

This is wonderful!

Enjoy!

Lyrics ~ Gordon Lightfoot

Pussy willows, Cattails

Pussy willows cat-tails soft winds and roses
Rain pools in the woodland water to my knees
Shivering quivering the warm breath of spring
Pussy willows cat-tails soft winds and roses

Catbirds and cornfields daydreams together
Riding on the roadside the dust gets in your eyes
Reveling, disheveling the summer nights can bring
Pussy willows cat-tails soft winds and roses

Slanted rays and colored days stark blue horizons
Naked limbs and wheat bins hazy afternoons
Voicing rejoicing the wine cups do bring
Pussy willows cat-tails soft winds and roses

Harsh nights and candlelights wood fires a-blazin’
Soft lips and fingertips resting in my soul
Treasuring remembering the promise of spring
Pussy willows cat-tails soft winds and roses

With Love,

Junie

The first lines of your post reminded me of a line from an old song - "Rainy days and Mondays always get me down" - except it's not Monday. Enjoyed the song. ec

Gordon Lightfoot, now you have brought back some memories....I suppose it give away our age.

The rain is past us now and on over to you. A mild front is supposed to come thru tonight and bring the temps down a little. I'm glad I live here in Houston and not up there with Cliff, lol.

BTW: My husbands parents live in Vero Beach, FL.

Hi Junie-Thanks for the kind word and link to my blog. I'm glad you like the necklace.

You are so fortunate to have seen Gordon Lightfoot twice. I grew up listening to him with my dad so hearing that song really brought back wonderful childhood memories. Thanks.

It is a pretty one, isn't it!

Thankfully, my feeling blue didn't last the whole day- tho the rain , pretty much, did!

Hi Jen,

Gordon Lightfoot has been around for a long time. He's a Canadian, but was also very popular in the USA.

He has some very good songs-and THAT one is one of my favorites.

Thanks for coming by.

Hi Lucy,

Gordon Lightfoot was a big favorite of mine during the 70s... lol- Yah- it probably DOES let folks know how old we are. Oh, well!

Looks like another rainy day here in Fl. At least in our part.
Thanks for visiting me.

To Artbrat (Brandy)

Happy my Gordon Lightfoot post brought back happy memories for you!

I really loved his music in the past- and am happy to have gotten back with it. He still has a great sound! I want to get that album that he put out a couple years ago.

Some of us are wishing it was warm enough to rain and not snow.
We are giddy up here because the forcast is for the upper 20's today and we're headed to 36 tomorrow. Now, where is my swimsuit?

The four seasons have never been more beautifully presented than in this Lightfoot song.

He doesn't perform it any longer on stage but it seems his tour this year so far has had some lovely older songs pulled out of the songbook. He's 69 1/2 and touring all year in the U.S. as he always has done except when he was ill for 2 years - sept.2002-nov.2004.
He loves to perform for his fans and from all the reports I've had about the shows so far they've been full houses and wonderful music. He's having fun and doing it for his fans. I've asked him a couple of times to do "I'll Tag Along" and the other night in Tampa when he thought I was there, he came out solo with just his guitar and did it after intermission. After the show he was surprised to hear that I hadn't made it to the Florida shows due to a family illness so I am hoping he'll do it for me in Toronto in May..
Here in Toronto we're expecting another snowstorm tomorrow so enjoy your warm weather!
Check out SONGBOOK - it's a 4 disc compilation of Lightfoot songs that he himself chose from his catalogue and there are some unreleased gems included. Amazon.com has it for some good prices. It's well worth it. And once again he goes back tothe four seasons because each disc is a different colour that maple leaves are over the course of the year up here in Toronto..
enjoy!

Char,

What a very nice surprise to have you visit me again.
I'm happy to get all this information about Gordon's music, and I will check out Amazon and see what I can find to buy. :)

That song I posted-'Pussywillows, cattails' was one I loved so much -back in the 70s...but as I mentioned here, I hadn't heard it in such a long time! (because most of my GL music is on LPs) I need to replace a lot of them with CDs.

I got several comments on my Gordon posts! :) I was happy about that.

Lucky you- to have met him a couple of times. I hope you're able to see him again and have that special song request filled!

Gordon was one of just a few singers I really went for in a big way in the 70s.

Dan Fogelberg was one, also, that captured me completely! I was able to see him several times in concert (over these 30 years) and I DID get to meet him once and even have a picture with him. I don't know if you know of Dan's music. I was heartbroken to hear of his death last December.

I read once in a bio of Dan of his having been inspired by the music of Gordon Lightfoot! :) That made me feel good - that connection.

ahhh- yes, you Canadians are still
in a lot of snow, I know. I have 2 bloggers I read everyday who are also in Canada!...On my side bar-'Pea' and 'AnvilCloud' I LOVE seeing the pictures of the snow that they post!

Have you started a blog? I hope so as it's lots of fun. I've been here for over 2 years now. With a blog you get the chance to meet a lot of people and talk about a lot of different things!

Thanks for coming by.

Junie
