Packing away Christmas

(posted on Face Book today)
Knocked myself out yesterday in packing up my Christmas stuff...Got most of it done except dragging the tree out- Chas will have to help with that-bad back or not!!!! I was sooo tired I couldn't get to sleep when I went to bed at 1:00AM...At 3:30 I was still awake... so had to take a prescription sleeping pill. My Melatonin didn't work last night- I guess I was just too tired!! My goodness-couldn't believe it when I looked at the clock when I awoke this morning...10:30!!!! :) But I feel better and am ready to face the day.....and the Rest Of My Life!!
~~~
I am reminded of some lyrics from a Dan Fogelberg song...
 The song is "Loose Ends."
.."Surrounding myself with possessions, I surely have more than I need...I'm wondering if this is justice hard earned, or simply a matter of greed...."
LOL-
I'm sure Dan was not writing about putting away Christmas decorations...nonetheless...those words came to me!!
Thursday's Theme Song~ Oct 27, 2011~"To The Morning"
~~~

~~

~To The Morning~
"Watching the sun, watching it come, watching it come up over the roof tops...Cloudy and warm, maybe a storm, you can never quite tell from the morning..."

"...and maybe there are seasons and maybe they change, and maybe to love is not so strange..."

Thursday Theme Song

~
(from Facebook)
Spring flowers make me happy, and though my Wisteria is long past for this year I can almost smell the fragrance when looking at this picture from 2010.

Pictures of this flower always remind me, also, of Dan Fogelberg's beautiful song of the same name!
(video below)

Enjoy with me!

Changing Horses

Note:
another Dan post below this one!

More on Dan!

Dan had some fine guitars to use in making his beautiful music, along with his angel voice!  :) I enjoyed this video a lot - the music, of course, and also seeing his guitars that he used in creating his wonderful songs.

I have always liked the opening words of this song.
(This can apply to so many situations in our lives...)

Changing Horses
  Lyrics: Dan Fogelberg

Changing horses in the middle of
a stream
Gets you wet and sometimes cold
Changing faces in the middle of a dream
Gets you old
Oh, gets you old.

Looking farther than you'll ever hope
to see
Takes you places you don't know
Search for someone you can't ever hope
to be
And still you go
Oh, still you go.

Don't you think it's kind of sad to say,
Don't you think it's gonna change?
Makes you think you'll have to stay inside
For a while.

Changing horses in the middle of a
stream
Gets you wet and sometimes cold
Changing faces in the middle of a
dream
Gets you old.

Sweet Magnolia (And The Traveling Salesman)

~~~
~~~
Sweet Magnolia (And The Traveling Salesman)

Dan Fogelberg
Album~ Windows and Wall~ 1984

Two hearts throwing off sparks
Young and in love with our freedom
Moonlight, the soft southern nights
We were both ripe to fall
Well I was out on my own
Playing for all who would listen
And you were as free as a bird
Flying from nest to nest
But somewhere our eyes met
And our hands reached out
And we felt a kindred spirit
And as our faces touched
I could feel the fire
And needed so to just be near it
Oh lord, those moments we soared
Borne on the wings of our passion
It seemed then like they'd never end
But times like that always must '
Cause then one day I flew far away from you
I never knew how I'd regret it
My sweet Magnolia belle you know I've loved you well
Even if I never said it
Magnolia, now I see that freedom isn't free
And love's the only true redeemer
And when this journey's through
I'll be coming back for you
If you'll have this foolish dreamer
I spend a night now and then passing through town on my travels
But someday I'm gonna come back to stay
Magnolia, I'm coming home

"Birds" _ Dan, again!

~~~
I posted this poignant song awhile back by Dan Fogelberg, and more recently I have added Neil Young's original version to my play list!
The song touches me so deeply on so many levels.
I suppose we have all been to this place of sadness at one time or another- in losing loved ones in whatever way.
This song was included on Dan Fogelberg's final album, "Love In Time," which was completed and released last year.
~Dan left us on December 16, 2007~
Lyrics
( Neil Young)
Lover, there will be another one
Who'll hover
over you beneath the sun
Tomorrow
see the things
that never come
Today
When you see me
Fly away without you
Shadow on the things you know
Feathers fall around you
And show you the way to go
It's over, it's over.
Nestled
in your wings my little one
This special
morning brings another sun
Tomorrow
see the things
that never come
Today
When you see me
Fly away without you
Shadow on the things you know
Feathers fall around you
And show you the way to go
It's over, it's over.
Sutter's Mill ~ Dan Fogelberg
NOTE:
This post which I read today reminded me of this song/story , and it sent me on a very nice journey in search of Dan's music!
BTW-this is an interesting blog post!
Check it out!
http://zettsett.blogspot.com/
"Sutter's Mill"
This is a very good song from Dan Fogelberg's, "High Country Snows" album of 1985.
This album satisfied Dan's long time desire to put together a group of his songs with a definite county and old west sound and flavor!
On this album one can find some of the most respected and well known names in country music who combined and blended their talents with those of Dan Fogelberg. The resulting-end product- was an excellent album - every song on it- and one of my favorites to listen to!
~~~

OK- History buffs-
-before you jump on me for posting historically incorrect information,
(Or Dan Fogelberg for writing this song)
I'm aware that John Sutter did not actually find the first gold nugget, although it was found at his mill. It was James Wilson Marshall who found the first nugget while working for John Sutter.

This event started the Gold Rush in Coloma, Ca - in 1848

Sutter's Mill

Dan Fogelberg

In the Spring of Forty-seven,
So the story, it is told,
Old John Sutter went to the mill site
Found a piece of shining gold.

Well, he took it to the city
Where the word, like wildfire, spread.
And old John Sutter soon came to wish he'd
Left that stone in the river bed.

For they came like herds of locusts
Every woman, child and man
In their lumbering Conestogas
They left their tracks upon the land.

(Chorus)
Some would fail and some would prosper
Some would die and some would kill
Some would thank the Lord for their deliverance
And some would curse John Sutter's Mill.

Well, they came from New York City,
And they came from Alabam'
With their dreams of finding fortunes
In this wild unsettled land.

Well, some fell prey to hostile arrows
As they tried to cross the plains.
And some were lost in the Rocky Mountains
With their hands froze to the reins.
Oh...

(Chorus)

Well, some pushed on to California
And others stopped to take their rest.
And by the Spring of Eighteen-sixty
They had opened up the west.

And then the railroad came behind them
And the land was plowed and tamed,
When Old John Sutter went to meet his maker,
With not one penny to his name.
Oh...

(Chorus)

And some would curse John Sutter's Mill
Some men's thirsts are never filled.

Dan

My thoughtful and dear son recently got me this final CD of Dan Fogelberg, knowing how I have always loved his music above any other!

I have been looking forward to this CD
(which was released in Aug-almost 2 years after his death)
but at the same time - prolonging the time of getting it for myself...knowing this is the last we will ever have of this wonderful artist/singer/songwriter/poet/multi-talented musician!

It's been an emotional undertaking tonight- my listening to Dan's music - alone here. But- with me- Dan's music, and the deep love and appreciation I have for it, has always been a personal thing not easily shared. So-as it should be, I have spent tonight, alone, immersed again in Dan Fogelberg and his beautiful songs!

This final album from Dan consists of 9 previously unpublished , original songs of Dan, and 2 songs written by other artists. This CD was worked on during Dan's illness and finalized for release after his death!

This album has not disappointed me in any way...oh, to the contrary... it has thrilled me as his
songs have, all through the years!

But, of course, there's the incredible sadness and feeling of loss, too!

I searched Youtube and found there have been a few new videos made of songs of this last CD from Dan!

~~~
This is not Dan's song, but such a poignant, final song for this last CD from our beloved Dan Fogelberg!
Sometimes a Song
Dan Fogelberg
Listen to me and I will try to
sing you a song that makes you see
how much I long to be beside you
and how much you mean to me
sometimes a song's the only way to
show you my heart will never stray
so if I can't find words to tell you
I'll sing what I cannot say
let me sing you a field full of waving flowers
I'll sing of the sun on the sea
oh this is the way that you make me feel
every time you smile at me
will you only smile for me
at times it must seem I take for granted
all of the little things you do
know in your heart I'm so enchanted
and still so in love with you
hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm - instrumental
sometimes a song's the only way to
show you my heart will never stray
so if I can't find words to tell you
I'll sing what I cannot say
let me sing you a field full of waving flowers
I'll sing of the sun on the sea
oh this is the way that you make me feel
every time you smile at me
will you only smile for me
listen to me and I will try to
sing you a song that makes you see
how much I long to be beside you
and how much you mean to me
yes and how much you mean to me
