Mellow Yellow Monday~Feb 20-2012

~~~
~~~

This is not a new photo but it's one I have always liked from a previous year.

Our citrus trees have suffered from the freezes of the past 3 years but this year (pictured) the oranges were at their best!

 This was probably taken in late Nov because that's when the fruit  is at it's peak!

"Look a- younder comin'... comin' down that railroad track..."

Well, actually, this is not the Orange Blossom Special- but it IS Florida  ~ a mile down the road from where we live!

~~
Lyrics
Johnny Cash

Look a-yonder comin'
Comin' down that railroad track
Hey, look a-yonder comin'
Comin' down that railroad track
It's the Orange Blossom Special
Bringin' my baby back

Well, I'm going down to Florida

And get some sand in my shoes
Or maybe Californy
And get some sand in my shoes
I'll ride that Orange Blossom Special
And lose these New York blues

"Say man, when you going back to Florida?"

"When am I goin' back to Florida? I don't know, don't reckon I ever will."
"Ain't you worried about getting your nourishment in New York?"
"Well, I don't care if I do-die-do-die-do-die-do-die."

Hey talk about a-ramblin'

She's the fastest train on the line
Talk about a-travellin'
She's the fastest train on the line
It's that Orange Blossom Special
Rollin' down the seaboard line

Sad But true...

After 3, or maybe 4, nights of freezing temperatures recently we are left with about 20 trees of wasted citrus fruit!

At first I was optimistic, thinking if the fruit didn't immediately fall off the trees it must be ok. ( A lot of the fruit fell-a lot is still hanging!)

And it did seem so at first... with the fruit we sampled...but a couple days ago I again started to squeeze some juice and discovered that, although the oranges appear ok and are still juicy, the juice is sour! :(

The oranges are ripe in mid Nov and so we had fruit for the holidays and onward for a few weeks!

...but . .. Geesh-I sure am sorry we lost all these trees full of fruit! Several of our
neighbors and relatives were also enjoying that fruit- especially the Honey Bells!

NEXT time I'm gonna eat those oranges

as fast as I can!!!

What a bummer!!

Visitors this weekend! (and UPDATE! )

Well, I tell you- Charles and I have been working like crazy the past 2 days, trying (in vain??) to get this old house pulled together for company this weekend.

Problem is, we are both collectors of 'stuff' ... things we like-PLUS-all the paper misc. that comes in the mail and of which I don't always know just what to do with- where to put it- or IF it should be saved or what!!

It seems the older we get the more complicated life becomes!! As we get LESS able to deal with things there are MORE things dumped on us! LOL! Is this just ME or is it really the way things are??

I have sworn off magazines for awhile...in fact am letting my 'Country Home' and 'Country Living' subscriptions expire! Have a huge box of them, too heavy to lift, ready to go...somewhere ; either in the shed to sell at a yard sale for a quarter each- lol- and even at that, I would get rich- or donated to a thrift shop! Also...a TON of books have accumulated here. These I will have to find time to go through and organize the ones I want to keep. This will have to be later. For now, many are boxed and stashed away in closets!

With my son recently moving (from my upstairs) into our small rental house, I have had a whole lot of de-cluttering and rearranging of stuff - to make those rooms usable up there.

We moved stuff around downstairs, too. These 2 cabinets I am able now to use for my little music center and have arranged all my CDs here-where I can find just what I want real fast and easy!

I made this picture last night with my computer camera. Of course, it's reversed, in real life here! I don't know how to flip the picture. I know there's a way and I have been shown how to do it but ...I don't remember! Just use yer imagination!
( I'm OLD...gimmee a break, will ya! haha )

The little desk will be where I will do my bills! Sorry- if it won't fit in that small space and those tiny drawers it will go in the trash! YEP!

Our expected company is my brother and sister-in-law from Alabama and a few days later my sister and brother-in- law from NC are coming too! We are hoping to have a mini-family reunion while they are here, with folks coming from south and central Florida and my sister and BIL who live here in Ocala-and all of my family! This, we hope, will come to be on Feb 7th! We'll see how it goes!

Oh! It's a rainy-gloomy day here! We need the rain, but still... NOT my favorite kind of day! Supposed to get colder again, too!

Well, seems the oranges didn't do too well with the recent freeze, after all. I tried doing some for juice and , even tho I cut off the soft part at the stem...the juice doesn't taste right! :( Charles says it's ok...but my taste buds know what Honey Bell juice is supposed to be!... Have to give it up and forgetaboutit! There's always next year!

~~~
Have a good day,
Junie Rose
Update:
Tonight we learned that my brother and sister-in-law will have to postpone their visit again as my SIL has developed a medical problem that has to be taken care of!
:( We hope they can make this visit in the near future!
~~~

The visit of my sister and BIL in NC is still on. (as far as I know). That will be next Saturday!

Cold OJ ?

Last night we had freezing temperatures! Charles put the sprinkler on to run through the night on our Honey Bell orange tree. This is what we saw this morning! Some of our fruit is lost I feel sure, but we hope, not all!

Another cold night ahead, too! :(

Our Christmas in pictures ~ 2008! (Family interest)

Ginga and the 'Grands!'

We had a great Christmas!
Once more we were all able to be together!
For that I am thankful!

We were all here on Christmas Eve and all except Zach were here Christmas day, as well!
Zach left early Christmas morning to go back to Orlando to spend the day with his girlfriend and her family!
(I can understand that! He's a very thoughtful young man and a good boyfriend to Ashley! :) That's good!)

~~~
Christmas Eve was a lot of fun for us all!
First the food~and decorations...
Will conclude in next post with 'Gifts and Games' and Christmas Day!
Love,
Ginga
Honey Bells!
Juice!
Yah~ I got it done!
It's delish!!
Note: Charles is feeling better today and the swelling around the eyes has gone down, some! He'll be back to normal soon, I think! Cool! I was wondering if I could pull that Thanksgiving dinner off , on my own! :) Now it looks like I'll have my usual help in the kitchen next week!
~~~

I'm feeling better today, also, after being up later last night and sleeping a little later this morning! That way seems to work better for me! I don't like it when I wake up before 6:00! Late nights are my time for relaxation - usually with music! Last night was especially good and I ended the night with my favorite LOUD Rock band - THE WHO!

The best ever!

~~~
Got to get going and get some stuff done...Tonight I will need to do some baking of goodies!
Have a great day!
Hi Folks!
Hi Folks,
It's a bright and beautiful day here, tho on the cool side. I love this kind of weather and wish we could be out doing something fun! All I can manage to do is walk around the yard a little bit! I did that earlier and got a few pictures.
Trying to fight off this feeling of depression coming on...With the big holiday coming up I have to be able to carry on. I just get the heavy feeling of being overwhelmed by things- physical and mental!
A big part of that is Charles' numerous health issues...and my own, too. I'm always fatigued and don't feel like doing a lot around here! That's bad for someone like me who always wants things-especially holidays- to be perfect!
Charles is out - doing what he says HAS to be done...hauling hay to the cows! In truth the cows could live off grazing the pasture for a few days... I hope he will not get infections in those places on his eyelids! His eyes look real bad, sore and swollen today.
It's hard for people like Charles to face up to poor health issues and realize he needs to slow down!! He has worked hard all of his life and doesn't know how to stop!
He is also facing the next surgery on his face for the skin cancer in early December- unless his eyes are still not healed enough. He may have to set that one up a bit. ...Me??-I had to put off a couple appointments for myself until after the first of the year! There's just too much going on right now for me to deal with anything else!
Also the economy has me worried- and I wish I could be happy- or at least hopeful- with the president we just elected ! I just am not near to that place yet! All you who voted for him-I hope you're right and I am wrong!
~~~

These are a few scenes from my world today!

( Click all photos for a bigger view )

Yes! I am always looking for spiders and their webs when I'm outside. Although this one is not that impressive, I always have fun trying to capture the perfect web! When I can remember to do it I carry a spray bottle of water with me to spray the web and make it stand out better! A friend who does a lot of photography told me of that little trick! :) (Thanks, my blog buddy!) It works well, too, but a lot depends on having the right background behind the web! LOL- Today's situation wasn't ideal but I got the spider and web anyway!

Also-here are the Honey Bells to ring in the season! :) Have to get to that juicing real soon!

I still have some roses...and the Poinsettias are starting to turn red!

These red berry type things are the seed that is left after the Coral Honeysuckle is through blooming! They look very festive for this holiday season, I think!

As always , my old cats are on guard around my yard! These guys are a real pleasure for me!

Hey! Know what?
I just talked myself out of being so depressed!! :)

Yes!
Life is good, isn't it!

Hope you are all having a good day!

Love,
Junie

In My Life... I love you more

For some reason today I have had this CD - and especially this song -on my mind!

I simply love this CD, which was a most treasured gift I received one recent Christmas!

I have been looking at some of the Youtubes that I found online!

I hope you enjoy this version of the beautiful Beatles song ~ this version, performed by Sean Connery.

This whole album is superb! It would be a perfect Christmas gift for someone you love!

Sir George Martin -Friends And Lovers - In My Life

~~~~
In MY life today...
Charles had the surgery at about 9:30 AM. It took about 1-1/2 hours to do it! He's in some pain but has ice packs on both eyes, frequently, to ease the pain and help minimise the swelling. It looks like he may have black eyes, too! Right away, tho, he said he was seeing better- with his lids lifted! :) I hope it helps a lot!
Our appointment seemed early to me - considering that I got only about 5 hrs. of sleep - but we made it ok. Charles was unable to drive himself home so I had to be alert and ready to drive us home.
Since we've been home I haven't done much. I have to be on hand to help him apply the ice packs every few minutes. I hope by tomorrow he will be feeling much better!
I DID go outside for a little while, as i wanted to check on things! The oranges were not damaged. We had a heavy frost but the temps didn't dip as low as predicted!
OH! And I got some neat butterfly pics! I have one of these for my desktop. Feel free to use it for yours- if you like it!
:) ... and here is my frost covered car ~ and some of our beautiful Honey Bells!
Life is grand! Enjoy every minute of it!
Spring is in the air! (OH!! and Dire Straits update!! )
( Update at bottom!!)
Spring is in the air and my new spring banner finally replaced the Christmas Reindeer one that was left hanging lots longer than it should have been!
Charles bought me this butterfly banner recently! I think it will do quite well to welcome in spring and summer! Don't you agree?
Spring is getting on here, in fact our spring blossoms will soon be over. The Azaleas are past their prime...almost over, in fact.
This light pink one still has some pretty blooms, though.
These pictures were taken yesterday in the late afternoon. I love walking out that time of day. The orange blossoms seem to be at their most fragrant at that time!
Heavenly scent and beautiful to see, with fruit still
hanging on the trees.
Here are my 2 boys ~ waiting patiently for their evening meal...
...Just a day in the life of Junie Rose...and it was good!
~~
Actually- I should say ~ Mark Knopfler update! (formerly of Dire Straits!)
I discovered yesterday that Mark Knopfler is doing a world tour and will be coming to Tampa area for a show on July 30th! This is about 80 miles from us and seems a doable thing for us to attend this concert! (At least it is - from my point of view!)
I mentioned it to Charles ....and he was noncommittal...as expected. Well, I told him I would get the tickets and pay for them out of 'my household $$$!' Still he didn't commit- lol -or comment either, for that matter! :) I even played him this wonderful 'Dire Straits' song that I have posted here! Still... No Response! Oh, well! We'll see!
(Perseverance is one of my strong points - I've been told!)
The main obstacle that I can see is that we always
have a family reunion trip to Alabama in July (Chas.'s Fam.) that we don't want to miss
...but I believe it will be earlier in the month!
(I HOPE so!)
It isn't often that I find music (or anything else) that just grabs me like this has! I hate to miss this chance to see Mark Knopfler in concert!
Wish me luck, my blog buddies!
~~~

Dire Straits~ 'Brothers in Arms'

~~This just might be the most beautiful and touching song ever written!!
And no one is a better guitarist than Mark Knopfler! And this video is just superb! ~~

Enjoy!

Note:

Of course I know this is from years back and The Knopfler of today may be different from this younger man - however - I can't imagine someone being THIS good a few years back and not still being good!

He had a cd released last year and I need to get it to catch up on his music!

Oh! But I can hope he'll do some of the old Dire Straits music , too!

(Wow! I need to slow down and not 'Count my chickens......etc-etc.')

:) Can you tell I'm excited?
