New Start!

Question!

Is two weeks into a new year too late to make a new start?

I hope not, because I need to find a new direction down this long road I'm on. I have encountered too many pitfalls along the way recently...sometimes to the point of rattling my teeth and jarring these old weary bones to the core! I need to find a smoother road to travel!

*CHANGES*

I just need to make some minor adjustments in my life...and I will!

Steps To The Rest Of My Life

Today I’ll pause on the way to tomorrow
and I’ll reflect on yesterday.

I’ll examine the reasons for my pain and my sorrow-
determine which debts I must pay!

I’ll retrace the steps that led me to this-
this cold place of darkness and fear.

And I’ll slay the dragons-if they still exist-
and the demons, which invited me here!

I’ll leave them in ashes and never look back-
get rid of the pain and the strife.

I’ll, tentatively, take my first steps to the future-
those steps to the rest of my life.

Tomorrow

Tomorrow brings a brighter day.
I’ll make it so!
I’ll put the pain - the hurt - away.
No one will ever know.

I’ll hide the tears,
and in their place will be a smile.
No one will guess my heart is breaking,
all the while.

And if I do this long enough
from day to day,
in time, the pain I’m feeling now
might, truly, go away!

…So, if wayward tears should fall,
please just pretend
you never saw the teardrops.
Please, be a friend.

I’ll toast tomorrow,
with my glass held high!
With new resolve,
I’ll give it my best try!

To insure our good luck?

For our dinner tonight Charles, again, made this meal of Black-eyed Peas, Greens and Cornbread!
I guess he's not wanting to take any chances with our 'luck' this year!! :)
It was fine with me-as it meant I didn't have to worry about coming up with a plan!
...Besides-that country grub is right good eatin', so I'm not complainin'!

~~~~~~
Today has been one long and uneventful (boring!!!) day...after a long and restless night!
When I finally slept I had bad dreams for the 2nd. night in a row!
So tonight I will not even attempt sleep until the wee hours! Will try to exhaust myself totally before attempting sleep! I'll read my book for hours to beat this sleep gremlin that's messing with my sleep! Finally, I will take 2 pills instead of one! (TylenolPM) ...Before the GREMLIN gets the drift of what I'm doing, hopefully, I will drift off to sleep!
Sounds like a PLAN! :)
A QUIET beginning~
We've had a very quiet beginning to 2007. It's been a rainy and gloomy day, too-which doesn't add any good cheer!
We DID see the new year in together last night, Charlie and I, and watched the big ball come down in Times Square, NYC! ( Wouldn't have wanted to be a part of that crowd! :) )
~~~

Had a calf born last night, or early today! We'll assume 'she' came after mid-night, so our first of the new year! Don't know what to name her- in fact, I haven't seen her yet! Charlie says she's just a solid brown color! LOL-I was tinking of 'How, Now' (brown cow!) for a name! Silly ME , that I am! :)
... any good cow name suggestions??

~~~
OK
To make sure of our good luck in 2007, Charles prepared this meal for us!
Just Tina and Alli and Chris joined us... Sure hope the other family members were able to have some blackeyed peas - somewhere!
He made Blackeyed peas-with hog jowl, Cooked greens, (not sure what kind) and his excellent cornbread!... (I had a cup of buttermilk with hot cornbread in it!)
LOL- And we had- Hot Dogs!
~~~

Love,

Junie

Auld Lang Syne

Auld Lang Syne

Should auld acquaintance be forgot
and never brought to mind?
Should auld acquaintance be forgot
and days of auld lang syne?
For auld lang syne, my dear,
for auld lang syne,
we'll take a cup of kindness yet,
for auld lang syne.

Should auld acquaintance be forgot
and never brought to mind?
Should auld acquaintance be forgot
and days of auld lang syne?
And here's a hand, my trusty friend
And gie's a hand o' thine
We'll tak' a cup o' kindness yet
For auld lang syne

Happy New Year!

Poem: New Year ~ 2007

New Year ~ 2007

The last few hours of this year are swiftly passing on.
And I wonder what the next will bring my way.

Will my choices show improvement - as I go along?
Will I make amends…all misdeeds to repay?

Will the way be clear of pitfalls - in this New Year, ahead?
Only - ‘good intentions' - sometimes, don’t suffice.

But with determination and the will to do what’s right,
my simple pleasures won’t outweigh their price.

(Some things become so troubling…that seem to start out fine.)
A new year offers hope - a fresh beginning!

Bad choices made in this year, can now be left behind.
With burdens dropped, I could again be winning!

It’s a time for deep reflection, as these hours pass –
journeying onward, through this final night.

I’ll treasure all the good things, that this year has given,
and try to take what’s wrong and make it right.

Happy New Year!

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

**********

This is a picture that goes back a long way. This was New Years Eve, 1968!
Charles had to work that night and his shift ended at 11:00 P.M.-giving him just enough time to get home and welcome in the new year with me!

As I remember, his friend and riding partner came with him and the 3 of us celebrated. :)

Tonight-I doubt if we will even be up to see the NEW YEAR!

:) We've learned it will come without our help!

**********

In the part of the south where my husband grew up it was - and still IS - customary to have Blackeyed Peas, cooked with Hog Jowl, for the New Years Day meal! This is to bring good luck in the coming year!

~~~Hey-it works for us!~~~
We usually have a 'mess' of cooked collards or turnips or other greens and cornbread to go along with this!
I leave all this for my husband to do...He makes excellent cornbread! (I like to crumble it into a glass of cold buttermilk and eat it with a spoon!) We sometimes have ham or grilled chops, too... but maybe just hotdogs and sausages this time! It's sort of just left dangling this time. (our holiday meal-plan)
We'll see!
Anyway~ the new year's almost here!
Hope it will be a good one for all!
