Late November-Sandy Denny

Sandy Denny

~from Wikipedia ~

Sandy Denny (6 January 1947 – 21 April 1978), born Alexandra Elene Maclean Denny, was an English singer and songwriter who has been described by Allmusic's Richie Unterberger as "the pre-eminent British folk rock singer".[1]

Denny is considered a founder of the British folk rock movement and perhaps its most important female singer, songwriter and personality. Over a ten year career Sandy Denny left an extensive legacy and remains influential. She is remembered for her pivotal involvement with the British folk rock scene, where, as a member of Fairport Convention, she moved the band away from west coast American cover versions and into performing traditional material and original compositions.

Pretty, PRETTY!
~

"Late November"
(lyrics)
Sandy Denny

The wine it was drunk, the ship it was sunk,
The shot it was dead, all the sorrows were drowned.
The birds they were clouds, the brides and the shrouds
And as we drew south the mist it came down.

The wooded ravine to the wandering stream,

The serpent he moved, but no-one would say.
The depths of the waters, the bridge which distraught us
And brought to me thoughts of the ill-fated day.

The temples were filled with the strangest of creatures

One played it by ear on the banks of the sea.
That one was found but the others they went under.
Oh the tears which are shed, they won't come from me.

The methods of madness, the pathos and the sadness,

God help you all, the insane and wise.
The black and the white, the darkness of the night,
I see only smoke from the chimneys arise.

The pilot he flew all across the sky and woke me.

He flew solo on the mercury sea.
The dream it came back, all about the tall brown people,
The sacred young herd on the phosphorus sand.

~Poems and prayers for Thanksgiving~

~Poems and Prayers~

Thanksgiving
The year has turned its circle,
The seasons come and go.
The harvest all is gathered in
And chilly north winds blow.

Orchards have shared their treasures,
The fields, their yellow grain,
So open wide the doorway ---
Thanksgiving comes again!
Old Rhyme.

Thanksgiving

For each new morning with its light,
For rest and shelter of the night,
For health and food,
For love and friends,
For everything Thy goodness sends.

--Ralph Waldo Emerson (1803-1882)

Giving Thanks
For the hay and the corn and the wheat that is reaped,
For the labor well done, and the barns that are heaped,
For the sun and the dew and the sweet honeycomb,
For the rose and the song and the harvest brought home --
Thanksgiving! Thanksgiving!

For the trade and the skill and the wealth in our land,
For the cunning and strength of the workingman's hand,
For the good that our artists and poets have taught,
For the friendship that hope and affection have brought --
Thanksgiving! Thanksgiving!

For the homes that with purest affection are blest,
For the season of plenty and well-deserved rest,
For our country extending from sea unto sea;
The land that is known as the "Land of the Free" --
Thanksgiving! Thanksgiving!

We Give Thanks

Our Father in Heaven,
We give thanks for the pleasure
Of gathering together for this occasion.
We give thanks for this food
Prepared by loving hands.
We give thanks for life,
The freedom to enjoy it all
And all other blessings.
As we partake of this food,
We pray for health and strength
To carry on and try to live as You would have us.
This we ask in the name of Christ,
Our Heavenly Father.

 Our Thanksgiving

May we always be together on this special holiday.
May our turkey always be so big and lush;
stuffed with cornbread dressing (Oh! The smell!)
with lots of sage to add the crowning touch!

All the mingling smells are so enticing!
And in my eyes there’s nothing that is better
than having all my loved ones close beside me,
as we work to bring it all together.

The routine, through the years, becomes an art.
Each turkey dinner seems to BEST the last!
And in our minds, this time, it all is perfect!
(Oh! But we said that, also, in the past! )

As the turkey roasts, there’s time aplenty,
to do Banana Pudding, and the rest.
The Harvest Loaf is tempting – and a challenge:
to resist, (until it’s time) a test!

As we pause with one more cup of coffee…
and we marvel at our great success…
we look around at all our loved one’s faces,
and realize how very well we’re blessed.

The table’s set with all our finest pieces.
The buffet table waiting – decorated!
Last minute dishes finalized -perfected!

The turkey’s done; well worth the time we’ve waited!

I Only Have Eyes For You ~ Art Garfunkel

~~

  This is  so beautiful!
What an angelic voice this man has!

I've been a fan of  'Simon  and Garfunkel'  forever, it seems. They were wonderful together...and they were both great alone, too!

My son got me this album for Christmas  (way back!)
because I had heard this song by Art Garfunkel on the radio and was so fascinated with it!

~~

Recently a friend and I were reminiscing about S and G.  That conversation led me back into their music. I have played a lot of S and G the past few days and nights; enjoying it immensely!

Hope you like this!  I sure do!!

Visitors ( For Family)

~~~
 Today we had a nice long visit with the 'Fahey Grands.' They are both living in Orlando these days so it was a special treat to have them here for a few hours.
Tina came too and brought us an assortment of bagels and cream cheese for our breakfast!  Dan, who is living here with us, had time to visit with the family before going to work. My daughter-in-law also came up to visit with the folks for awhile.
'Cooper' the pup was glad to see us. He first greeted me in that high-spirited way of his - then he sprinted for the den where Charles was watching tv....LOL- Coop is a quick learner and already knows where C. can be found...LOL- guess he knows where to find me too- as he always heads directly for my computer corner to say 'hi' to me! He's a cutie and always fun to have around!
Alli and Brian decided to come up this weekend because Brian will not be here on Thanksgiving- he's going to NC with his girlfriend and her parents to visit her grandparents.
We will have a smaller group this time, since Marc and Terry ( my S-I-L ) won't be able to get home either.  There will be just 9 of us!
Tina has offered to do some side dishes for me- and Joy (d-i-l) will do some stuff too.
I'll like that because I'm not really up to a lot these days! Charles and I will do the turkey and stuffing and I will do my banana pudding...
...also I need to make a couple more Harvest Loaves...as I gave one to the kids today!  :) Wellll... had to- since my boy Bri won't be here, you know!  I cut one in half and gave half to Alli for her and her room mates in college-and the other to Bri for him and Lindy, his girlfriend!
 Can't help it... it's just a 'Ginga' thing!
Love,
Junie
Believe~Brooks and Dunn
 ~~
~ Beautiful song ~
  'Believe'
Brooks and Dunn
Artist/Band: Brooks And Dunn
Lyrics for Song: Believe
Lyrics for Album: Hillbilly Deluxe
Believe
Old man Wrigley lived in that white house
Down the street where i grew up
Momma used to send me over with things
We struck a friendship up
I spent a few long summers out on his old porch swing
Says he was in the war when in the navy
Lost his wife, lost his baby
Broke down and asked him one time
How ya keep from going crazy
He said I'll see my wife and son in just a little while
I asked him what he meant
He looked at me and smiled, said
(Chorus)
I raise my hands, bow my head
I'm finding more and more truth in the words written in red
They tell me that there's more to life than just what i can see
Oh i believe
Few years later i was off at college
Talkin' to mom on the phone one night
Getting all caught up on the gossip
The ins and outs of the small town life
She said oh by the way son, old man Wrigley's died.
Later on that night, i laid there thinkin' back
Thought 'bout a couple long-lost summers
I didn't know whether to cry or laugh
If there was ever anybody deserved a ticket to the other side
It'd be that sweet old man who looked me in the eye, said
(Chorus)
I raise my hands, bow my head
I'm finding more and more truth in the words written in red
They tell me that there's more to life than just what i can see
I can't quote the book
The chapter or the verse
You can't tell me it all ends
In a slow ride in a hearse
You know I'm more and more convinced
The longer that i live
Yeah, this can't be
No, this can't be
No, this can't be all there is
(Chorus)
When I raise my hands, bow my head
I'm finding more and more truth in the words written in red
They tell me that there's more to life than just what i can see
I believe
Oh, I
I believe
I believe
I believe
I believe
I believe
Sisters
~~~

My sister, Joy, invited us over for lunch today at her house. As always, Joy and Mike had a delicious lunch for all of us...yummy sandwiches and fresh salads...iced tea and good-hot coffee ~ for me!

It was an enjoyable time for the 3 of us sisters.
(lol- and the guys too!)

We don't see Gloria and her husband Clyde  as often as we'd like...so this time was special for us!
