Around Junie's Place today-

I just took a walk around the back yard and saw much that pleased me!
Although my rose garden has been too long neglected, still, I find other things to delight me !

(As for the roses-they will have my attention in a few weeks! Many will have to be replaced but I can do that!)

Pictured:

  • The flowers are Azaleas and Red Camillias.
  • The old iron bell - still decked out with the Red Christmas Bow!
  • Oranges, with blossoms already coming on.
  • Some shots of the Live Oaks I love!
  • Old iron kettle
  • My Tin Man

It's a beautiful day here today!

Moody Blues Night

Tonight I'm listening to Moody Blues..."Days of Future Passed."

I wanted to play this a few nights ago but had misplaced it!

I'm so happy I found it tonight.

It's one of my most favorite CDs to play.

Lots of happy memories connected with this for me.

Go here to watch a video of "Tuesday Afternoon,"
- one of my top favorites of "Moodies!"

It's wonderful! Enjoy!

... a backward glance (post #2 of today)

OK-

I saw this at Pea's place today and found it interesting and fun!
Just 4 things are involved. We're asked to pick 4 of our past posts that fit the subjects listed!

Here are the posts I picked from my archives:

Funny - Farm Life of the Past: Lessons Learned

Serious - The Water Wheel

Ugly - Spider Surprise

All about me - Some Things I like...and do not...

~~~~~
This was fun to do! You might find all of my choices funny!
:)
Caught in the act...
General is a hunter and can often be seen chasing lizards and looking longingly at the birds at their feeders in the back yard!
In fact, Charles saw General catch a lizard and EAT it!
Sadly, I have found feathers in clumps in the back yard, also! Looks very suspicious, General!
Tiger is a whole 'nother kind of cat! Here I caught him in the act of helping himself to the bag of food in the corner of my kitchen! He does things the easy way!
Turns out...
...we did get to ride , after all , as the weather cleared up and the sky turned from dark to this!
Is there anything more beautiful than a blue sky like that? I think not!
We started out to go to Gainesville, but after a few minutes of riding we decided that was too far to go on a windy-chilly day...so we turned off the highway and took back roads through the horse farm areas. We could then ride slower and not get so hard hit with the wind! I took some pics along the way but really nothing worth sharing . Still- it was fun!
We stopped for a late lunch and coffee before heading home. An added bonus...I won't have to make dinner because neither of us will be hungry!
(LOL- have to add up all the blessings!)
Oh! Here we are just starting out!
A good day!
Love,
Junie
Dang it!
Dang it!
Not a riding day, after all! It's cold and looks like rain...so we'll have to wait for a better day! ;(
...And I really wanted to ride with this guy today!
Wouldn't you? :)
This was a ride we went on last July- before Charles shaved his full and bushy beard! He almost immediately started to grow it back, and in a few weeks looked good again! :)
I LOVE a beard! But I admit- the one above looks pretty wild! His is neatly trimmed at this time!
...And there am I, ready for the same ride!
Can't remember where we went that day!
...But as they say..."It's not the destination that's important-but the RIDE!"
Love,
Junie
Alli!
We had a surprise visit from the girls tonight...my daughter Tina and granddaughter Allison!
Alli wanted to show us her new haircut. Can you believe I forgot to get a picture? Yep! I find it hard to believe too, but I DID forget! :) She looked cute but she always does!
She's 16 now and will be getting her driver's license next week! Yikes! ...And she's our baby!
This is a picture I made of Alli in October'06. She is wearing a sweater that was mine in the late 70s! (;0 I save things!) It looks cute on her!
~~~

Tomorrow Charles and I will be taking a VICTORY ride! We haven't been for a ride in several weeks. Always something preventing our riding! Mainly, recently, it has been because I haven't felt well. Seems like I'm not improving so I might as well give that up as an excuse. I can feel bad just as easily riding as moping around this house! :) Does that make sense? Well, it does to me!

I have been feeling sad and discontented lately - for a variety of reasons. A long ride will be fun for us. Hope to get some interesting pictures along the way!

Tomorrow brings a brighter day - I'll make it so!

(One of our more recent rides - Fall'06)

Four years ago today.

Four years ago today is the day Mom left us.

( Maybe this is the reason I have been feeling so downhearted the past few days. January will always be a sad month for me, I expect...)

This picture was one of Mom's birthday reunion parties. One of my sisters was not at this party.
That's me holding on to Mom!

Love you, Mom!

Joel Chernoff

Today I'm listening to some very beautiful music-and something new for me.
It's Joel Chernoff with 'Come Dance With Me.'
My sister gave me this yesterday. It's contemporary Christian music. I find it very uplifting!

Read about Joel Chernoff here.

~~~And a pic of my sis and me!
I'm the pouty one! :) ~~~
My IPhoto back!....and more dolls!
....SO-what do you know! :) I checked my 'IPhoto' picture site again this afternoon....and it seems to have recovered! Really!! I can move my pictures again.... I did absolutely nothing to change things! How could I? I had no idea at all of what was going on!...Still don't know but am happy it's working better.
~~~

~~~And since I was able to do something with my pictures I thought I'd continue with my doll collections~~~ ;)
~~~

There was a spell back in the 70s when I was very intrigued with Oriential dolls! I have a few, though nothing really expensive. Just some dolls that I found attractive...and some were surprises from family. I have all of these grouped together in a doll case-although they vary greatly in styles as you can see with the pictures.
I will try and describe the ones I'm showing here.
  • Figurine of Jade...this one stands about 10 inches tall (gift from Charles one Christmas)
  • Red & Blue clothed CHINA head stuffed doll. ( 2 views ) This doll is about 18 inches tall (Gift from my son)
  • 2 eggshaped figures ... Light weight-like papier mache...sort of like ornaments (I bought these many yers ago at Pier One)
  • Colorfully dressed lady...light weight/papier mache type (We bought her at the Youth Fair in Miami, long ago)
  • Baby - This little baby is plastic but his costume is fantastic. He's just about 6-7 inches tall- but is designed to sit! I bought him for myself over 20 years ago.
  • The girl in white is very beautiful. She is about 7 - 8 inches tall and she has a beaded costume (beads glued into place) I bought her for myself over 20 years ago.
  • The little guy, wearing white brocade with black belt is of fine porcelain. He is about 12 inches tall. He was a gift from Charles many years ago.

~~~~~~
The same Christmas Charles gave me the Jade lady figure he also gave me this Oriental Dress!
:)...It's a poloraid picture that didn't hold up well over the years...but I had fun playing around with it! You can often improve pictures by making them black & white! But the other one shows the pretty colors of the dress! (I am holding the Jade figurine)
The other photo is Alli, my granddaughter-just recently!
( Click on any pic to enlarge )
Yep! I still have that dress!
But you KNOW I'm a collector of stuff- right? :)
Music night
~Last night I relaxed for awhile with some wonderful music.
I started out with Dan Fogelberg's 'NetherLands' then went on to Dan's 'Exiles'...finally ended the evening with The Beatles', 'Abbey Road.'
Abbey Road was recorded in 1969~~~and is widely considered to be the band's swan song.
I like reading the history of The Beatles and their music.
~~~

Today is another rainy and cold day here- in fact, it's predicted to drop to freezing tonight!
I will have to cover my plants ...( hope I remember to do so!) The cold, gloomy days are kind of getting me down!

I'm ready for spring!!

~~~~
Also~~ my iPhoto is still messed up!! :(
Looking ahead...
Hi folks,
Today is a gloomy day here - cold - well, it's 60 and that's pretty chilly for a day time temp for us! Mainly I guess it's the darkness of the sky- the absence of even a little bit of sunshine that's making the day dreary for me. It's not actually as cold as the day looks from my window!
Charles just brought me in a new supply of HoneyBells, but I need to do dishes before I can start on them! Didn't feel like doing them( the dishes) after dinner last night - so there they still sit!! ( Not a new picture! )
Yesterday I discovered my iphoto picture program has gone crazy on me! I can still transport pictures from my camera- or even scans of other things... I can still edit anything (photos or other scans ) but it now will not let me transport pictures from my iphoto program-library!
Oh! But just the new things I put on! The older photos still transport without a problem! It's very strange!
~~~Which means` I can not use any of my new pictures I put there-unless I print them and THEN scan them! A real pain! I have no idea what happened or why - or what to do about it!
I suspect my iphoto program will have to be re-installed . Some parts of it work-but some don't! I wish I knew what to do!!
~~~
And-Marc won't be home for a couple weeks! :< Woe is me!!
~~~

...looking ahead...

(got this in an email from a friend in Reno yestersday. I found some of it really funny!)

Vintage Ads

I love vintage things!

I came across these two advertisement cards I got many years ago in Pennsylvania. I remember buying them one year on a visit with my sister in Altoona.

I can't put a date to either of them but know they are both very old.

~~ I love the art illustration of both of them!~~

~~~~
I went searching for info of these companies!
Didn't find anything except
this of the card on the right!
( a place to buy this type of cards! Ut-Oh- here I go again...being sucked in!
But aren't these cards just sooo charming!! )
Slip Kid ( POST #2 of today ~~ check#1 -More doll stuff.)
OK....Have to mention this little guy. He's been around since my one and only trip to NYC in the early 80s. He's been in one or another of my doll display cases all these years...never really having a permanent place. ( LOL- I guess - never knowing if he's a doll or a bear- or something else, he's moved around a lot!)
When this little fellow came to my mind the other day (when I got into this doll mode I'm in!) I didn't know just where I had last seen him...Finally found him...and the name of ' Jimmy Slip kid' seemed to fit him well!
So now, instead of thinking of him as that weird little bear-doll thingy from NYC, I will call him ' Jimmy Slip Kid!
( A' WHO' influence here!)
He participated in the photo sessions, along with the dolls, so I just can't leave him out!
Here I give you, 'Jimmy Slip Kid!"
Speaking of snow...
( Click on pics to enlarge )
OK !
Visiting around the blogs the past few days I have seen a lot of snowy scenes and heard a lot of snowy tales. As for me, there have been very few snow days in my entire life! I remember one snowy Christmas Eve from my early childhood!
And then there was this!!
~~~~~~

...And there was our California trip in 1986!

Our daughter and 2 grandsons had left us just before Christmas to reunite with Marc at Fort Ord in Monterey, Ca. Marc had just returned from a whole year, stationed overseas, but now the family could be together. Fort Ord, Monterey, Ca. was a great place to be stationed and we were happy for the kids...but sad for us!

Up until that time we had been with the kids all their lives! After they left us in Dec. '85- we had decided to visit them in January '86! :) ( I tell ya, it was rough letting those boys go!!)

...Besides... who wouldn't like the idea of a first time trip to California - yah-that had it's appeal, too! :)

~~~~~~
These pictures are from a trip we made from Fort Ord, (where the kids were living in the Army housing there) to Placerville area and on to Lake Tahoe!
Beautiful scenery! In fact- every part of California- from LA to San Francisco...and on thru the farming areas of Salinas Valley...everything we saw was just wonderful! Every part has it's own special beauty!
Anyway-in the area of Lake Tahoe, we saw this...SNOW!!! It wasn't snowing but there was plenty on the ground! Dan, at almost 3 years, had fun making snowballs...Brian , not yet walking, didn't have a really close encounter!
It was lots of fun for us!
~~For me though, the main attraction was those two little guys at the top of my post! :) ~~
