~~

~~~
We have a new baby at our place this week - and she is a beauty!
I named her "April!"
These pictures were  all  taken when she was just about 1 hour old!
She's so pretty!
Mom is very protective of her newborn.
  After awhile, mom, "Cloud,"  relaxes and partakes of a well deserved snack of hay.
Ruby Tuesday ~ ( For Nov 3, 2009 )
****
It's Ruby Tuesday time again!
This is when we share our pictures with a little or a lot of red!
What Ruby Reds are in your life this Tuesday?
~~Go here to find other RT posts.~~
~~~

My RT post this time is of just a little red.

Although this trailer was once ALL red it's now mostly rust! :)
Still- it serves my husband well with his hauling of hay for his cattle!

They're back!!!

OK-

I have been expecting my house to be invaded with some of these weird looking folk....I was just unsure how many there would be this time ...or just when they might show!

In years past -around Halloween- my house has been , literally, overrun with some very unsavory characters ~ to say the least!

I've come to expect it...and I just try to co-exist with them for a few days; that seems the best way to go!

Knowing all this, I was not at all surprised last night to see this strange couple appear on the edge of my kitchen counter-along with that smiley ghost.

I remembered them from last year and they DO seem harmless-if a bit strange; really quite friendly looking, though, with those goofy smiles!

The ghost seemed on good terms with the couple-and he didn't seem offended to pose in front of that sink full of dirty dishes; a point in his favor, in my book!

This couple - and the ghost -gave me an even more radiant smile when I pointed my camera at them! :)

Later in the evening some other characters began to congregate along the counter edge...until it was full up...standing room only, I'd say!

I managed to get some shots of the newcomers... (after all-it is MY HOUSE, you guys!!) although I was reluctant to venture too close.

I have read the life stories of each of these dudes-and their stories are NOT what one would consider a 'Happy Fairy Tale' type story...so it seems prudent to use caution when dealing with them, don't you agree?

They didn't seem too thrilled with my picture taking...nary a smile to be seen! And you should have heard the noise they were making...Seemed like they had been rehearsing those eerie sounds all year- just for me...and just to scare me to pieces, I suspect!

( Oh, but they underestimate Junie Rose...I've been doing this for many a year!! Once I even had Freddy Kruger to deal with...)

Speaking of those scary sounds...maybe- just maybe...I can get a video of them in action! That would be cool!! Am I brave enough to try that??

In the corner across the room is where the 3 witches met!

Well, to be honest- these ladies are not in the least scary to me...especially that pretty blond one in the middle! She seems to use her beauty for attention... You know the type that is so obviously aware of her own attractiveness that it can't be missed by anyone...
( but -how do I know?...she may have some powerful magical abilities... maybe I'm being catty here!! :))
All I know for sure is... she seems to have a calming influence over the other 2 old crones- rendering them all quite harmless, in my opinion!

...On the other hand-perhaps it's the absence of their cats that have, seemingly, stripped them of their full magical powers this time! They all DO have their brooms, I noticed- but no cauldron boiling ...with all the vile things that I've heard can be found in them!

I'm just as happy to have them just stand silently there -without any magic spells being cast- the time they are here!

(...and let Blondie make eyes at Frank or the others if she so wishes...)

When I awoke this morning I really wasn't much surprised to see that the goofy pumpkin couple had moved to my front entrance shelf! This seems a better place for ones so happy-and as you can see they really are friendly and harmless- just a little odd!

On our way out to shop Charles and I paused a moment to get photographs with the current scare crow guy! He's just one in a long line of his family who have come around to spend time on our hay bales each Halloween! Last year his cousin was here. ..or maybe his brother! Definitely there was a strong family resemblance between all of the guys we've met here on our Hay!

Oh my! It just occurred to me that the word could be getting around that I am a really flirty old lady...as I DO always want to cozily pose with these guys...each and every one!

My goodness! I hope they know it's all in the fun spirit of Halloween!

Hay-Y'all!

Today was one of those days when things just overwhelmed me.

All the recent sadness we've had , of course, was a part of it... I talked with my sister in NC yesterday for the first time since I got home...so hard to find any comforting words for them.

...But also the holidays just around the corner and me with so much to do to prepare and make things merry for everyone, has me frustrated.

I have some big cleaning jobs to do in the house...jobs that I never seem to have time or energy to get around to. I found myself in tears today, more often than not- with the magnitude of it all!

Again we talked about selling our place here and getting something smaller and easier to take care of... I guess we will just talk and never make a decision on it. We have so much stuff, after all these many years... It would be such a task...and so hard to just throw my things away!

I have very mixed feelings about the idea of moving!

I think I don't want to do that more often than I do want to !

Still, it just seems too much sometimes-the big house and especially all the area we have as the yard to take care of. As usual- my gardening got completely sidetracked with the hot summer. Everything is so overgrown and weed infested now!! We never did get the rose beds mulched- even tho I did a lot of work cleaning them out in the early part of summer ! Would have been so much easier if we had bought mulch for those beds... :( Now- they are at the point where it will take another major clean out to get them halfway nice for the holidays! Guess I should hope for a big freeze, early in this season, to kill stuff back for me!!!

...I just wish life could be easier-and more FUN!

~~~
Also - the cat decided he was tired of being confined to the back porch and found the hole in the screen (Which was not repaired, tho I DID request it be!) and disappeared for most of the day! I spent the day- (off and on)- looking for him- and alternating between crying for him and swearing at him! ( silently, in my mind only!) I finally found him late in the afternoon in the overgrown lot next to our place! He was way up under some branches of a fallen tree. Charles had decided to go ahead and replace the screen (properly) so before nightfall I had General all safe again! To prevent the screen from being ripped out again, Charles & Chris cut the General's claws!
Gee- I just wish that old cat would appreciate what we're trying to do here... which is to keep him safe until he recovers from his injuries! Instead, he seems humiliated by all our efforts!
With no way out for either of them, last I looked, Tiger and General were cuddled together in the porch chair! Good! Hope they will just be cool and calm through this night!
Tomorrow gives us another chance to figure things out!
~~~

Charles spent hours of this day in painting the cattle trailer he recently bought! (not green- but red!) Oh, yes! It looks better for sure, but it was sooo much work for him....And he breathed in a lot of paint fumes I am sure- His beard and hair were tinted red! I thought of getting a pic but he really looked so exhausted I decided not to alarm anyone with such a picture! This one was after he'd washed his hair and beard.

It would please me, no end, if he'd slow down with this cowboy stuff- but I don't think he ever will! He just bought all those new cows but he decided to keep the others too- at least for now!

I think sometimes how nice it would be if he didn't have this stuff taking up every hour of his days...Maybe the 2 of us could make this house more livable...and have more time to do fun things together, too!

But then there's the $ he gets from the cows at market- so I guess it all balances out!

~~~
:) We did take a few minutes to ride a block over from our place to get these shots of our neighbor's hay cutting operation! I find fields of hay very pleasing to look at...very country and Fall-ish!
I made this easy dinner for us!
Chili ~ always good for a cool fall day!
This is the way I like mine- with white rice and Cheddar cheese!
It was yummy!
(with ground beef, of course )
Tomorrow will be a brighter day!
I just know it will be!
Hay!!!
Charlie, the farmer!
This is Charles with his hay and Feed hauling deal! This is an almost constant job -making sure the cows have enough hay and Alfalfa cubes! If he has extra, there are plenty of horse and cow farmers around who need a little extra hay and feed!
This old trailer has been in use for about 30 years! ;) Believe it? Of course you do! Just look at it!
~~~~~~
For me,
today was one of those LOOOONG uneventful ones! Rainy day, too, but that's a good thing! I did nothing but piddle around here- doing just little things, here and there! Looking and thinking of all the jobs I NEED to be doing...but NOT doing them!
Oh well! My life-my house- my jobs not done!
~~~~~~
...and Charlie on his old John Deere!
Charlie went to look at a bull he's considering buying! He has the idea that ole Bo is getting too old to do his job with his herd of about 15-20 cows! This is a young bull he's looking at!
If Bo only knew what's brewing he might be more inclined to try harder...even with that cow - Janet Reno- whom he hates for some reason! Maybe it's the horns that turns him off!
Oh well, I can't get involved with all that cowboy stuff! That's Charlie's world! :) He works very hard as this picture shows! :)
This is a picture of Bo-AKA Little-Big Horn.
The black n white cow is Janet R.
( Just a day in the life on the farm!)
