Pink Saturday-Oct 13, 2012 - 'Pumpkins'

~~~
It's time for "Pink Saturday," but it's been suggested that we may share our pumpkin pictures-as well as PINKS, if we wish!
I'm betting we'll see more orange than pink this time!   ;)
~Some pumpkins from past seasons~
These first 2  are from a trip to North Carolina
The next 2 are  my own pumpkins from a past season
In these past Halloween pics, my granddaughter, Alli, actually did have pink in her costumes!
Happy Pink Saturday!
Friday's Fences-May 11, 2012-red-farm fence-NC
~~~

~~~
This is another picture from my daughter's recent trip to North Carolina.
This was taken before she met up with the hiking group, as she was out exploring the town and surrounding area a bit!
I'm glad she remembered me and my photo memes each week and got this shot for me to show here.
This is a striking red farm gate, isn't it!!
The field of yellow wildflowers make a beautiful contrast.
Thanks, Tina!
:)
Love,
Midweek Blues_May 9, 2012- NC mountain wildflowers
~~~

~~~
This is a picture my daughter got on her recent hiking adventure in the Smokey Mountains, NC.
I was unable to identify it with my searches.
Does anyone know the name of this pretty little blue wildflower?
Ruby Tuesday_5-8-12- "The Long Walk"
~~~

~~

My daughter, Tina, just returned Saturday from a week long backpacking hike in the Great Smokey Mountains... make that a 50 mile, backpacking hike!

This was her first time for doing something like this and I'm extremely proud  of her accomplishments.
Although it was hard
(much harder than she expected, she said)
 it was fun and well worth it.
 She saw and experienced things most of us never will...well, at least, not up close or from the vantage point she, and her fellow hikers, did!

What extraordinary beauty there is to be seen in those mountains!
~~

Today I'll show you  some scenes of Ruby Red from her collection of photos!

~~

~Lots of wildflowers along those trails~

~the hikers- minus one~

~This is the other guide~

~a rest stop along the way, on one of those days~

~looking WAAAY down to water from a narrow bridge~

~And again~

~ Tina said they crossed over numerous streams on the hike, sometimes having to take off their shoes~

~this is someone's energy drink, cooling ~

~one of those days, after a rest stop, it was discovered that a snail had hitched a ride on Tina's backpack~
:)

~ All food had to be kept  way up on poles, so as not to attract bears!~

 Tina's tent...

They slept in tents except for the last night when they had reached the top of Newton Bald Ridge- elevation, 5,000 ft. That night they slept in a crude lodge that had no electricity...but they had HOT water in a bucket to wash up and a bed to sleep in!~

(  However...the highest elevation they had reached on the hike was 6,593 ft. )

:)

Tina said, the last day was one of the hardest, though shorter in hours walking, as it was a steep decent, all the way; and , of course, a different trail from the way they came up!

(lol- no red in that day, so I won't post any pics)

 ~~
This is Tina after the 6 day hike,
 back at the hotel with the 2 guides.

She drove home the next day...
( about a 9 hour drive!!)

Way to go, Tina!!

This autumn~~~in the autumn of our lives...

~

This autumn day and this mid October week finds Charles and me immersed in a long string of doctor appointments...which is becoming the norm for us; well, more so for C. than me!

(That's a darn good thing too,  since I am the one without the additional health insurance...just medicare coverage!)

Yesterday, though, I did have a visit to give a blood sample at my doctor's office - for a followup visit next week... (a cholesterol problem)  Today my appointment was with an audio specialist...(nothing new or unusual here!)

Charles also had to go to another office yesterday for another sample of blood  at his heart doctor. (a problem with thinning his blood to prevent clots)  Friday he has yet another appointment with a different doctor for a different- though related- problem. Early November he has more surgery for skin cancer on his face.
( Curable with the cutting out)

 Charles and I both went for flu shots yesterday, also!
(so at least that's one less worry)

So many appointments on our calendar that I'm finding it hard to work in all the things I need to do- and  should do....like eye exams and dental exams...

This is most definitely 'The Autumn' of our lives, I'd say!

~
Does all that sound gloomy?
Sorry!!

  :)

~~

Here's  some good cheer for fall!

October's Party
George Cooper
"October gave a party;
The leaves by hundreds came-
The Chestnuts, Oaks, and Maples,
And leaves of every name.
The Sunshine spread a carpet,
And everything was grand,
Miss Weather led the dancing,
Professor Wind the band."

  Cheers!
