She's in!!

~~~
YAHOO!! We are so proud of our girl - always have been!
We had a call yesterday from our granddaughter, Alli, to let us know she has been accepted into the nursing program at UCF .  We were not taken by surprise because her grades have been excellent, always.
  She has a plan and determination to carry it through!
These classes will start in August so this summer will be her last relaxing times for awhile. This program goes straight through next summer, I believe!
~
Here she is just starting on her journey...her first day in K-4-BEFORE she was even age 4!
Way to go, Allison Brooke!
We love you and are so proud of you!
An Award
I was recently given this award by one of my earliest blog friends ~Joy, at "The Joy of Six."
From the start, Joy and I seemed to connect on many levels~
especially in our mutual love of our families and poetry.
I appreciate this, dear Joy, and the fact that you've hung in there with me all this time, reading my rambling - often - irrelevant nonsense-posts! :)
Thank you, Joy, for this award and for your friendship.
The simple rules that come with this award are:
1. When you receive this award, you must thank the person that awarded you in a new post.
2. Name 10 things that make you happy.
3. Pass this award on to 10 other bloggers who make you happy.
Ten things that make me happy:
1. ~My first cup of coffee in the morning~especially if my husband has it made when I get up! :)
2. ~Family gatherings - best when no one is missing~
3.~Roses ~
4.~ watching the birds~
5. ~a special dinner out ~ I love 'Red Lobster'~
6. ~Reminiscing of my mom and my childhood-and also of my kids and 'grands' when they were little. Christmas memories are among my favorites~
7.~ Music ~especially discovering music new to me and sharing with a special friend~
8.~ Blogging! :) Yes!
9.~My Springtime wildflowers in our meadow~
10. ~ Writing poems that come together just the way you want them to! :)
(Sometimes that happens)
I enjoy reading many blogs, a lot of which are not yet on my side bar favorites list. All who visit me here are among my favorites but I will list only a few...
1.~Carletta
~Carletta has a beautiful blog going over at 'Around the Bend.'
She does fantastic photography-a lot of nature shots. Also has two little granddaughters who we have been able to get to know a little, through her stories and pictures.
2.~Pea
~Pea of 'Pea's Corner' is a dear blog friend (doesn't everyone know and love Pea?) She's an interesting and fun loving lady and shows us a lot of fantastic scenery of her life and travels in Canada. Oh! And she's also a loving grandmother to a sweet baby girl!
3.~
Sally at 'Whispering Hope' is a blog lady friend who I enjoy reading and I seldom miss a day of checking her out! She is a lady I admire and like a lot! She's a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother to a little four year old girl; a very family-involved kind of lady! I like that!
4.~
~Donna at 'Made in Heaven' is one of my newer blog friends. (even so, it's been a couple years, maybe) She posts a lot of pictures and leads an interesting life way out in Texas. Her family-husband,daughter and 'grands'- are often featured in her blog! OH! And Donna and I are on the same page politically! I like that!
5.~
Sandy, 'Abandoned in Pasadena' is a blog friend I like to read often. She's actually in KY! She often writes about her cats and about family events~ Oh, and she writes about riding motorcycles with her husband and other family members! COOL!
6.~
Mary of 'Mommas Corner' is one amazing lady! She's into all kinds of crafts, canning of veggies and fruits, gardening...you name it , she does it!
I admire Mary's sense of humor and especially envy her vitality and energy!
Oh! And she appreciates my music! :)
7.~
Rachel, of 'Sliding Through Life,' is a long time favorite blog friend. I always enjoy Rachel's interesting posts of her daily adventures - she embraces life and shares a lot with her readers and friends.
Rachel=NICE!
8.~
Peter, of 'Holtie's House' is a blog I will always enjoy reading. Peter is a very caring guy, involved deeply in family affairs and seems to have a zillion friends! He has a lot to show and tell about his homeland, Australia, which I have truly enjoyed over the 4+ years I have been a blogger. BTW- In the beginning, Peter helped me in figuring out this confusing world of blogging! He sent me detailed emails with instructions on how to do certain things-post pictures-etc! I'll be forever grateful, Peter! :)
9.~
Cliff~'Cliff Morrow's Blog' is among my favorite reads. It's always rewarding to visit Cliff and he never fails to leave me smiling! I often need that!
10.~
AC- of 'Raindrops' is way up in Canada, but I visit him on a quite regular basis. He's witty and a lot of fun to read. He shows his readers a lot of scenes of his country and shares family times with his two 'grands' and his wife and daughters. Oh, and he is musical and if we're lucky, sometimes shares his fiddle playing with us!
~~~
NOTE:
My blogger choices can be found on my side bar, just click the names.
(I got lazy)
Anyway, I hope you will check them all out because they are all awesome, if in different ways!

~~~
OK~ I know some folks are not too keen on doing these award things so don't feel obligated to follow through on this unless you want to do it.
The main thing about blogging -IMO- is that you have fun- so if something begins to feel like a 'job' it might reduce the fun part of it!
(LOL-Just enjoy the good things I said about you anyway)
Love,
Junie
And the winner is....
~~~

June Kellum

(from Facebook)

YaaHoo-Alan's band won the contest!!

(did I spell that rite? haha)

OK-We're very excited and happy for Alan and the UBb
...but to be honest, I am not surprised this song won. Alan wrote this song and plays the guitar- It's a great blues song... he has a super voice for bluzz singing!

This band-'Used Blues' band- is very popular... in our area-and all around central and northern Fl. Winning this award should help them to become known to a wider audience- plus they recently released a CD-"Deep Down in Florida."

I'm so proud and happy for Alan (and his new bride, Lauren) and the band- and for my sis!! :) Just think about it...she may someday soon be the mom of a 'Rock Star'...and I may be the auntie of one! :)

Cool things to think about! :)

Congrats, Alan and UBb!

Our life today....AND -Alli's graduating!

Hello Folks,

There's a lot happening around here this week...and...well... it's a continuation of a few days or weeks, really; some good stuff-and some bad stuff!

One thing is that Charles has developed a bad problem with his left knee. You'd have to know him to know there is no way of getting him to slow down, even when he's not well. Stuff has to be taken care of, no matter what...hay to haul-cows to feed- goat pens to build...to name a few! Anyway-his knee has gotten to the point of his barely being able to walk...so he finally got to the doctor today.

He was told he has arthritis and knee spurs-which may require surgery...if the cortisone shot he got today doesn't help!

We have also had lots of trouble with the Santa Gertrudis cattle we bought awhile back. Recently lost a calf at birth and also the mother cow died. These cattle seem prone to birth defects and we have lost several calves in the time we've had this herd!

...Due to these facts Charles made the decision to sell them all and go back to a mixed herd (far less trouble than these pure bred, we've found!)

The cattle auction is held every Monday so Charles decided to give it a try and see how the prices were going these days! He loaded up 5 to sell! Oh my! He found out soon enough what a bad time it is right now to sell cows! They brought about half of what we expected!... So now- where we are is-we don't want to sell the cows for far less than they are worth - but we sure don't want to keep having defective calves!

OK- This is just one little drama that has been playing out in the past few days....Oh-and another thing is- one day several of the huge monster cows got out and we had a heck of a time getting them back in the pasture!
(I say 'we' but I'm little help in these matters! Luckily we have neighbors who were able to help Charles!)

(COWS-Like some people, apparently think the grass is greener on the other side of the fence!)

All this - and so much more- going on while C. is almost past walking ! I wish he could/would just STOP!

~~~
I'm having computer woes also-and expect to be offline in the next few days- for who knows how long!! I'm waiting for an appointment to get my Mac to a shop for repairs...It's still under warranty . The problem is this - it shuts off, often! It also runs hot and the fan comes on often. Although annoying I could deal with that but People tell me it shouldn't be doing that at all...so of course I have to get it taken care of!
Sounds simple enough but... there's no Mac places in our town. Fact is we will have to take it to Orlando or Tampa for repairs!!
~~~ Charles will hate that -he hates my computer anyway!! :( LOL- but if he took me to Tampa to see The Who concert (HE DID!! ) then maybe he'll help me with this too! :) ~~~

Anyway - will let you know what's happening with that as it unfolds... I will not just disappear without a word!

~~~
Oh- but a happy event is coming up for us on Friday! It's our Alli's High School Graduation! :) We are all very proud of her! (Well, you know that, right? ) She's graduating with the highest honors!
~~~

Some pics of Alli in the early days:

First day of k-4....when she was not yet 4! :)

( couldn't find one with Dan on this day!)

Here she is graduating K-4- and in grades Kindergarten thru Five! :)

It's hard to believe how fast these years have flown by!

I told Alli...in pure 'Ginga' fashion...
"Alli, you've been a great
granddaughter!"
... I said it in a grave tone- like it was the end of something...

And she says..."Well, Ginga, I'm still your granddaughter!"

I said it to be funny- but in truth- I know it IS an ending AND a beginning for all of us-but especially for Alli!

Have a good night!

Love,
Junie

About Alli

We were invited to this program last night, honoring all the students who have gone through the International Baccalaureate Program in Vanguard High School.

We are
so proud of our granddaughter, Allison! :)

~One of Alli's favorite teachers~

Alli's graduation next month will be a milestone in our (my) life - as she is the youngest and last of our grandchildren to graduate high school!

To me it seems as though the years have just flown by since they were- ALL 4 - just my babies!

Alli's 2 brothers graduated from Vanguard also-as she will next month!

I'm just feeling somewhat melancholy about the whole thing tonight!
( Just a Ginga thing and it will pass!)

...So many patches of different sizes, colors, and patterns, go into making up this crazy quilt of our lives...
