Your Age By Chocolate Math!

~~~
I got this in an Email and was AMAZED! Well, it doesn't take a whole lot to amaze me anyway (you've probably noticed) but you DO THIS and tell me if you're not amazed too! ;)
And can someone explain to me how this could possibly work out like this for everyone?
~~~

Your Age By Chocolate Math!

>>
>>DON'T CHEAT BY SCROLLING DOWN FIRST!
>>It takes less than a minute.
>>Work this out as you read.
>>Be sure you don't read the bottom until you've worked it out!
>>This is not one of those waste of time things. It's fun.
>>
>>
>>
>>1. First of all, pick the number of times a week that you would
>>like to have chocolate
>>(more than once but less than 10)
>>
>>
>>
>>2. Multiply this number by 2 (just to be bold)
>>
>>
>>
>>3. Add 5
>>
>>4. Multiply it by 50 -- I'll wait while you get the calculator
>>
>>
>>5. If you have already had your birthday this year add 1756 ....
>>If you haven't, add 1755.
>>
>>
>>6. Now subtract the four digit year that you were born.
>>
>>You should have a three digit number
>>
>>
>>
>>
>>The first digit of this was your original number
>>(I.e., how! many times you want to have chocolate each week).
>>
>>The next two numbers are
>>
>>
>>YOUR AGE! (Oh YES, it is!!!!!)
>>
>>
>>
>>THIS IS THE ONLY YEAR (2006) IT WILL EVER WORK, SO SPREAD IT AROUND
>>WHILE IT LASTS.

Visit from the girls!

OK!!

We just had a surprise visit from Daughter, Tina and granddaughter, Allison!

They had 2 items of news for us!

First off! Take a look at this! Is this a girl to be proud of - or what!!

( click to enlarge)

(Perfect score on FCAT test!)

Way to go, Alli! :)

Alli is in 10th. grade this year!

~~~
The second bit of news was more unexpected than the first!
The two of them have planned a 'spur of the moment' trip to NYC .... leaving TOMORROW night!
They will only have Thursday night -Friday-and Saturday- and fly home Saturday night!
'Teddy Geiger' will be at Macy's to announce the winner of a contest (World Aid's Day Lifebeat contest-for Aids/HIV awareness) Alli entered the contest but has no idea if she might be a winner!
She's seen Teddy Geiger several times in Florida and Georgia...LOL- She expects a surprised look on his face when he sees them there! I BET!
Here she is with Teddy Geiger, after one of his shows recently.
Alli's 16th. Birthday is the day after Christmas and Tina wanted to do something very special for her . She's always felt Alli gets short changed for her birthday, since it's the day after Christmas!
I know this will be an exciting trip for them!
(I hope they take lots of pictures-and not just of TEDDY! :) )
All about Dan!
Dan Fogelberg!
Today I am listening to Dan's "The First Christmas Morning" the MOST special Christmas album ever!
I have to play it often during the season...sometimes even on July 4th. :) It's just so perfect!
Recently a couple of Dan Fogelberg fans found some of my posts here-talking about Dan's music ! It has been a very nice experience talking with people who share in my love of Dan's music and feel as deeply as I do about him and his music.
If interested in our comments go here
Here is a good Fogelberg website!
November Ride
Today Charles suggested a ride to Waldo Flea Mkt.
I was UP for it as I always am!
OK- We go to get ready and of course I always want to document our activities with some photos!
I got this one of Charles getting ready to ride...
then he got a total of "15" of me- in the space of a couple minutes...
between this:
this and this!
I must say he was being a bit of a " S.... A..", making the point of my taking so many photos! ;)
Oh, well!
Nevertheless...here am I - enjoying the ride! ;)
I was surprised to see so much fall color-just 40 miles up the road from us!
My husband at the flea market of Waldo! ;)
Now-I'm about to do-THIS:
( Haven't you always heard that if life gives you 'nuts'- make a Harvest Loaf! :) well-something like that! )
A Good day!
Our day turned out to be a real success and a great family time for us all.( Everyone was here except Marc, my SIL-He's a truck driver and couldn't make it home! :( We missed you, Marc. )
Our turkey was ready about 2:00 and we managed to bring it all together by about 2:30.
In spite of all my misgivings about the banana pudding everyone said it was the best ever!! Yes- I have to say -it sure looked pretty!
Here's that big ole turkey! (19 + pounds) ...You should have heard me grumbling during the stuffing and cooking of this big guy! Once again I said, "I will NEVER cook a turkey this big again!" ....and..."This is the last time I'm doing a big holiday meal like this!" ( I've said this before, of course!) :)
But then I realize it's all worth it when the turkey comes out of the overn looking like this!
~~I forgot to take pics of my Harvest Loaf and my Cranberry Salad~~
We had to serve buffet style, with so much food and so many of us! Here is a pic of some of the family at the serving table.
My daughters and 2 of my Grands-Zach and Alli.
The Grandkids:
Zach-Dan-Brian and Alli.
One of the best parts of the day is the chit-chat after dinner-and lingering with dessert and coffee!
These photos are of the rest of us!
My son, Chris, my daughter Tammy and her son Zach-and Tammy and her husband, Terry, Daughter Tina and her daughter, Alli.-Charles and me.
I'm thankful for my family.
Last minute shopping...
Tonight we had to do some last minute shopping for some food items for the Thanksgiving dinner.
Earlier in the day I had made a list of several things I still needed...It added up to quite a few by the time I was finished.
OK!
I was pondering the fact that I had spent about $300.00 already on my regular grocery shopping and holiday related food items and decorating...and all the little odds and ends I always end up getting...
extra little food storage boxes-cute dishtowels with turkeys on them-the big aluminum cooking pans (double, for the big turkeys I cook)- the new table cloths - the scented candles I love to use...throw-away plates and cups (to cut down a little on clean up)
about a zillion things-or so it seems!
I decided, since Charles was with me, I would take that long list and divide it- half for him and half for me! Lol- at first he thought I meant the idea was for him to just gather up half the items...I explained..."No, you gather up AND pay for your half of the items on the list...since I've already spent a ton of $$$!" I gave him the list and he read it, folded it and tore in half and chose the list he wanted!
I left him *grumbling* as I headed off toward the far side of the store. I had dog food and cat food on my half of the list! While I was on that side of the store I went into the garden shop to pick up some potted plants...not on my list but I Can't resist plants! Ended up getting one for me and one for both my daughters!...I also bought some candies which was not on the list but only because I had forgotten it- until I saw it in it's festive holiday colors! In the produce section I ended up getting 4 different fruits...only two were on the list. Ice cream was- but the chocolate syrup to pour on it- wasn't! (I try to anticipate what each and every one might want)
Finally, Charles and I meet up again...me, with 3 big plants dominating my cart. He with - well- a few things! :) I saw I still had corn meal and butter milk on the list...so I tell him, "YOU know about the corn meal (he makes the corn bread for the dressing) so YOU go buy it- and the buttermilk too!" :)
(Did I butter him up, or what?? :) )
Oh! I had put a dutch apple pie in my cart and asked him if it was ok...he said he preferred the regular apple pie. So I said,"OK, you get the kind you like, then!
He did...Naturally, that went in his cart!
Finally, we had checked off every item (plus, I had added several more) and were ready to check out! Charles, of course, was able to go in the express lane, no prob.!(20 items or less!) I wanted to, also... I frantically counted my items-and found I had 21! There was nothing to do but to put that Farberware pie/cake server, (which I had picked up at the last moment) with Charles' check out items!
It turns out my bill came to $80.OO something...His came to $30.00 something!
What do you think? Did he give that shopping list more than a quick glance? hahaha
I think so! ;)
~~~
**Above 'grumbling'

We have long had this rule that all the food will be bought out of MY part of our $$$...the part that is budgeted for the running of the house! OK- that works fine-EXCEPT for big holidays! ;) Rules can always be bent a little!
~~~
We had THIS when we got home - Charles' apple pie! It was really good!
Lucky I kept that other one in my own checkout cart!
Happy Thanksgiving, all!
My night-so far!
OK- we went out tonight, as I wanted to get the Sarah CD I have been so 'carried away' with since yesterday! I found it at Target!
It 's a very nice mix-all done in Sarah's special way! My favorite of all is 'River'-the Joni Mitchell song ! (The link I posted )
This CD is worth adding to any Christmas music collection!
~~~~

I also saw this little ornament Santa and found him very charming-so he came home with me!

Here he is on my computer desk!

He looks a little distressed at the messiness of my desk!

Well-yes, Santa-I could use a bigger computer desk! (Hint-Hint!!)

Now I'm off to try for that elusive sleep!

I finally did it!

It took me 3 days to get started but tonight I just DID IT! I made those Harvest Cakes! I always try to do them in advance of the actual Big Turkey day to make it a little easier! Now...if I can only find a safe place to hide them, in the WAY BACK of my freezer, I'll be ok!!

Lol- I DO make a big mess-but that's ok!

Some happy moments happened today for me!

#1
Three of the kids stopped by- my daughter, Tina, grandson, Brian and granddaughter, Allison! That's always a pleasure for
me!

#2
I learned today that Sarah McLachlan has a new CHRISTMAS CD out! I can't wait to get it!! Some of it can be heard here and it is just beautiful!

#3
While I made the cakes I was playing my James Taylor Christmas music and then I played Dan Fogelberg's 'First Christmas Morning,'...a wonderful night of music!

NOW- hope I can sleep!

Harvest Loaf-Yummy!

(This I posted last November on my AOL Journal...(still on my side bar)

It's a very good cake which has been part of our holidays- forever- or so it seems!

~~~~~~
HERE, by 'popular request' is the Harvest Loaf recipe!
For years my sis and I felt like this was our very own, special, thing!
She found this recipe and shared it with me around 40 years ago and
we've both made this every Thanksgiving and Christmas holiday, since that time.
NOW we find it's on the internet-PLUS-I found it on a Wal-Mart recipe card
(but minus the nuts!) :)
Anyway-EVERYONE should have the Harvest Loaf experience- so I'm posting
'My' recipe here!
Harvest Loaf
I 3/4 cups flour (reg.) sifted
1 tsp.baking soda
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. nutmeg
1/4 tsp.ginger
1/4 tsp.ground cloves
1/2 cup butter (1 stick) softened
1 cup sugar
2 eggs
3/4 cup pumpkin
3/4 cup semi-sweet chocolate pieces
3/4 cup chopped nuts (chopped finer than they usually are in package)
Oven @350
9x5 greased and floured pan
Combine flour, soda, salt and spices.
Cream butter well - gradually add sugar - Blend in eggs - beat well.
...to this...
add dry ingredients, alternately with pumpkin, beginning and ending
with dry ingredients.
Stir in chocolate morsels and 1/2 cup nuts.
Turn into pan and top with remaining nuts.
Bake 65 to 75 minutes. (or until tooth pick inserted in center of cake comes out clean)
Let cool about 10 minutes. Run knife around all edges and turn out
onto rack to finish cooling!
I usually put a powdered sugar icing on top - in strips going both ways.
(as seen in photo!)
I do this while cake is still warm.
Recipe for this icing can be found on box of sugar.
(or mix well, powdered sugar (sm, amount) with a couple
spoons of cream or canned milk and few drops vanilla- mix until smooth and thick
enough to pour from a big spoon-onto your cake) :)
***Note About Pumpkin:
One can pumpkin -net wt. 15 oz.- is just enough for 2 Harvest Loaves-
so I usually make 2 cakes and don't have that half can of pumpkin left!***
Enjoy!
James Taylor Christmas CD
My son, Christopher, surprised me with an early Christmas gift today!
It's this James Taylor Christmas CD!
Chris and I have always shared a love for Christmas and all that goes along with it;
especially MUSIC!
I will enjoy this! In fact, I am listening to it as I type this! It's very beautiful!
What could be better than James Taylor singing Christmas songs?
This is Chris at Christmas, 1963 - age 4.
Thanks, Chris!
Love,
Mom
