Charles' Birthday ( post #2 of today ~ #1 see below)

Tomorrow is my husband's birthday. He will be 73!

I am just 6 years behind him so I guess neither of us are 'Spring Chickens' anymore, ehh!

We have plans for the week-end to celebrate with the family in Orlando, but tomorrow Charles and I will go out for a nice dinner - just the two of us! We haven't decided where to go yet.

~~~
Today I went out to see Charlie's latest 'find' and was pleased with what he's
drug home this time! :) As I may have mentioned, Charles loves old things- especially old farm implements. Well, anything of metal from the past grabs his attention! As it happens (and a good thing it's this way, for us both) I also like all this old stuff. It isn't often we come across these very old and interesting things so when we do it's an event and a big deal! Never mind that it's something most people wouldn't even want around their place...We like old stuff - junk , even! :)
He saw these wheels in the yard of an unoccupied house. There was a 'For Sale ' sign on the property so he called and got permission to take these 2 old iron wheels- at no charge!!
OK- that's all fine and good...except they weigh, he estimates, about 400 lbs ...plus they had an iron rod welded on them and were cemented into the ground about 3 feet! No way would a little thing like that stop Charles! He dug them up and with a little help from some neighbors there, loaded them onto his trailer and brought them home.
With his tractor he's able to move them around . They are so heavy he can't stand them upright from the ground, except with the use of the tractor!
What he has in mind is to set them at the edge of our wildflower meadow - in line with 4 other heavy metal wheels he has - as a sort of separation between our yard and the meadow. The six wheels will be spaced several feet apart, with these two 'new ' ones that he found as the ones in the center. It will be kind of an entrance leading into the flower meadow! :)
Well, I like the idea but I may not be explaining it to make it easily understood just what we plan to do here!
Trust me! It will look cool!!
I made some pics of one of the wheels. He thinks they are from old road grading equipment- circa - 1930-1940 . They stand about 4 ft. tall and the rims are at least 8 inches wide!
He first said he wanted to paint them with the John Deer yellow...but I would prefer to keep them all in their natural 'rust' state! I love the contrast between the old rust and my delicate meadow flowers!
NOTE:
OK- You see the kind of things Charles likes...and it makes it kind of hard to shop for birthday gifts for him! :)
I have always wished we could have a Gazebo in my wildflower meadow! That would be grand, indeed!
Our Victory Ride~ 3~30~08
My ride is here!
And my riding partner! :)
We started out with an overcast sky and a chance of rain forecast! No rain came but no sunshine either! It was cool but just right for riding, at least when we started out! I must say, tho, we got a little bit chilled on our return trip! :)
This is where we went... This Polaris place is a few miles north of Gainesville- 40 something miles north of our place.
They were having a charity event to raise $$ and all Polaris owners (others too, I think) were invited to pay a small fee to enter their bikes for judging...with winners in all categories getting trophies. Also there were raffle prizes! ...Hot dogs and cokes too! And a chance to look at all the new motorcycles! :)
Lol- Well, we didn't win any raffle prizes and our motorcycle didn't win either!
( Though it was clearly the prettiest bike there!!! :) )
Here are some of the neat bikes we saw...some in the showroom and some on display for judging!
We had a fun day!
Got the tickets!!
I got the tickets ordered from Ticketmaster! Alli came up and helped me. I was a little nervous about it, having never done this before!
( lol- and my girls are old pros at securing concert tickets!)
...However - we were not able to get the best seats but they will do just fine! They are in Orch. - right side. They are almost the same location that we had the last time we saw Dan Fogelberg in 2003 ( his last tour)... just one row closer in!
It will be a little sad being right there in almost the same spot again where I last saw Dan!
Life is so strange sometimes!
Or is it just me who notices these sad ironies?
...Still- I am happy to have been able to buy these tickets and I know Knopfler will give a good performance!
Facing the day ( MUSIC update at bottom )
UPDATE at bottom of page! Something very nice for you! :)
~~~

(Morning)

......Today will be another one of those long ones, as I have been awake since 4:30 and up since 5:00 AM. Yep-another one of those nights that yielded me only 4 hours of sleep - if that! This is getting downright ridiculous!!

And I have to get ready to go out for a bit of shopping. April 1st. is my husband's birthday. I have no idea what to get him! He's a man who has everything he wants already...at least of the things I could afford to buy him! Something will come up. It always works out!
(Books are always good...but our house is overrun with books already!)

I COULD call those concert tickets I plan to buy tomorrow his birthday gift! Only problem with that is I don't think he's really too keen on this show anyway ... and he might not consider this as a suitable gift! :)

At least (about the Knopfler concert) he didn't put his foot down on my idea of getting tickets!
However-I DID say I'd pay for them out of my household $$$!

LOL- We might be eating skimpier meals for awhile - which won't hurt us at all! :) Might help, you say? Well, I agree! :)
( This is like 'Killing 2 birds with one stone!' )

...just some foggy musings from my sleep deprived brain...

Later!

OK ~ Here it is late afternoon and I've done my shopping~ found a few little things for Charles, so all is well.

The drive over and the return trip too, were relaxing and quite enjoyable. I played this music as I traveled.

This is
'L J Plays the Beatles' ~ Laurence Juber's Solo Guitar Arrangements of Beatle Songs!
There are 14 songs on this cd and all just beautiful!

Laurence Juber was Guitarist with Paul McCartney's 'Wings' band!

Because of his Beatles connection, L J has been a guest performer at the 'Fest For Beatles' in the past. He is a scheduled guest this time, also!

This Fest is held every year in NY Metro Area-also Chicago and Las Vegas. The fest starts tonight in the NY area location, and runs through Sunday.

~~~
I suppose thoughts of this Fest and of several friends from the music forum I post on who I know will be there, made it the natural thing to choose this CD to listen to on my outing today!
(But I'm glad I did!)
Laurence Juber is a fantastic guitar man! This CD is excellent!
This is one song that he performs on this CD
(tho this is not taken from the CD)
Enjoy!
It says~~~
"You stand up for what you believe in, even if it gets in the way of what other people think. You are proud of yourself and your accomplishments and you enjoy letting people know that."
Poem ~ My Meadow Walk
My Meadow Walk
Today I took a meadow walk
and to my great delight,
I saw the Pinks are blooming!
It happened overnight!
The first blooms come in early spring,
to soon be joined by more;
a fragrant flower blanket
like none you’ve seen before!
Those meadow blooms, in shades of pink,
so delicate of hue-
years ago they won my heart-
became my favorite view!
I can see this from my window-
this glorious display!
But, best to walk among the flowers,
and pick a small bouquet!
This day~ 3~26~08 ~ Music & Flowers
Music and Flowers
These 2 subjects seem to dominate my thoughts and control my activities these days.
Today I spent some time again walking around our place...just marveling at the beauty around me! No credit can I take for any of this, nor can Charles!
(except to have kept away with clippers and mowers)
This is as God intended these flowers to grow...natural and free!
(Click to enlarge pics)
These pictures are:
1. The wildflower meadow... assorted flowers but mostly the wild phlox! Along the edge of this meadow you see some shrub roses that bloom almost year round here. The black board is part of the fence that was there, separating the meadow area from our side yard!
We left the board there because a couple of times when we went to pick it up to move it we discovered a Black Racer snake under it! We left the board alone, not wanting to disturb the snake! :) I checked today, but he was not home! I was hoping to get his picture...maybe next time!
2. The white Cherokee Rose that is often found along roadsides in rural areas of the south USA. ~ This one has been allowed to ramble as it wishes , and you can see , it has reached the tallest tree tops.
3. Wisteria is one of my favorites...and I like to see it just rambling as it wishes, too! :)
Probably a very good thing that I like the free flow growing of plants around here because there's no way we'd ever be able to keep things neatly trimmed.
All of these flowers have a short blooming period. (as do Azaleas, Camellias, and the plum and Dogwood and Red buds; which are over for this spring) Maybe that's why I treasure all of these so highly!
OK~ I have still not done any gardening - but hope I can soon!
~~~

I slept better last night and I think it's because I went to bed more relaxed and happy than usual! I had some good music listening time and had some chit chat about music with a friend. ( talked to Bonnie in Reno) I played some Knopfler solo and Dire Straits with my friend and find I like this music more, every time I hear it!

Have decided to go for the Atlanta concert tickets on Saturday when they go on sale! Charles agreed we could do the show!
Got my fingers crossed! ;)

~~~
Hey!
Take a walk among the wildflowers.
AND~ listen to the music!
Life gets tedious...
These restless nights are getting a little tedious...
Again I awoke way too early at about 5:00 AM.. I went to bed at around 12:30 and took a Melatonin and got right to sleep...but had disturbing dreams again! This is getting old - and not a bit funny!
I suppose one thing that was on my mind was still wishing I could make the Mark Knopfler concert. I found out they have added another show to the schedule - in Atlanta - for July 29th!
And these tickets don't go on sale until March 29th! (My daughter says I might be able to get good seats for this, by calling early -and thru Ticketmaster they are less $$) As I said before I'd pay the price for a good ticket!
This would fit right into our plan to be in Athens, Alabama, Aug 2 nd. for the family reunion...except...it would mean an extra couple days. Charles has his cows and no one to take over taking care of them so it's very hard to plan to be away, even an extra couple of days more!
~~
Dang it!
It's hard being a farmer's wife - and having the heart of a Rock 'n' Roller!!
Well ... You see my dream is not yet dead... or at least it's not buried...
~~~

For some strange reason this old song is running through my head this morning...

LYRICS

WALTER BRENNAN
LIFE GETS TEDIOUS, DON'T IT ?

LIFE GETS TEEJUS, DON'T IT?
(Carson Robison)

The sun comes up and the sun goes down
And the hands on the clock go round and roumd
I just wake up and it's time to lay down,
Life gets teejus, don't it.

My shoe's untied, but, shucks, I don't care
Cuz I recon I ain't a-goin' nowhere,
I'd brush my teeth and comb my hair
Just too much wasted effort.

The water in the well get lower and lower,
Ain't had a bath in a month or more
I've heard it said and I'm sure it's true
That too much bathing will weaken you.

Danged ol' mule, he must be sick.
I jabbd him in the rump with a pin on a stick
He hunched his back, but he wouldn't lick
Something cock-eyed somewhere.

Hound dog's howling so forlorn
Laziest dawg that ever was born
He's howlin' 'cause he's settin' on a thorn
Just too tired to move over.

Well, the cow's gone dry and the hens won't lay
And my well dried up last Saturday
My troubles keep pilin' up day by day
And now I'm gettin' dandruff.

Roof's a-leakin' and the chimney leans,
An' there's a hole in the seat of my old blue jeans
Now I've et the last of the pork an' beans,
Just can't depend on nothin'

Mouse is gnawin' at the pantry door
He's been at it now for a month or more
When he gets through he'll sure be sore
Cause there ain't a dang thing in there.

Well, it's debts and taxes and pains and woes
Aches and miseries and that's how it goes
And now I'm getting a cold in my nose,
Life gets tasteless, don't it.

~~~
Haha! I remember this song being 'sung' by Walter Brennan! I hoped to find a Youtube of Walter B. doing this but couldn't.
~~~ I did find some others, but Walter's version is the one I remember and that's the one I wanted! :(~~~

Yesterday (flowers & music)

Here are some scenes of spring that I love!

I like using the little meadow flowers in decorating for Easter and spring! Don't they look so fine in this little bunny's egg vase?

My meadow flowers have been important to me since the early 70s when we found and bought this property. It took us many years to be able to leave our life in Miami and build our home here but we were finally able to do that! This July it will be 20 years that we have been here! Charles has indulged me in letting me keep this flower meadow in it's natural state - un-cut during the winter and spring and well into summer. And we have never used it for any of the assorted live stock we have had over the years! We are rewarded with a field of these pink wild flowers for several weeks of spring and summer!

I love, too, the old fashioned shrub roses that bloom so abundantly through out spring and summer- with or without my care or attention!

These are some of my favorite things in the whole world!

Update on my Mark Knopfler concert plans...

My daughter and I searched out all the info about this concert I wanted to see and find the only seats still available are not desirable ( only 5 rows from the back) but still very expensive!

I would have been willing and happy to pay that amount for better seats...but - well... it just seemed too much for a couple hours of music I would have to watch through binoculars!

Sometimes we just have to make choices and sometimes we have to let reason prevail!

:) Don't be sad for me - be proud I made a sensible decision, for a change!

Love,

Junie
