Peter Gabriel
Don't Give Up ~ lyrics
In this proud land we grew up strong
We were wanted all along
I was taught to fight, taught to win
I never thought I could fail
No fight left or so it seems
I am a man whose dreams have all deserted
I've changed my face, I've changed my name
But no one wants you when you lose
Don't give up
'cos you have friends
Don't give up
You're not beaten yet
Don't give up
I know you can make it good
Though I saw it all around
Never thought I could be affected
Thought that we'd be the last to go
It is so strange the way things turn
Drove the night toward my home
The place that I was born, on the lakeside
As daylight broke, I saw the earth
The trees had burned down to the ground
Don't give up
You still have us
Don't give up
We don't need much of anything
Don't give up
'cause somewhere there's a place
Where we belong
Rest your head
You worry too much
It's going to be alright
When times get rough
You can fall back on us
Don't give up
Please don't give up
'got to walk out of here
I can't take anymore
Going to stand on that bridge
Keep my eyes down below
Whatever may come
And whatever may go
That river's flowing
That river's flowing
Moved on to another town
Tried hard to settle down
For every job, so many men
So many men no-one needs
Don't give up
'cause you have friends
Don't give up
You're not the only one
Don't give up
No reason to be ashamed
Don't give up
You still have us
Don't give up now
We're proud of who you are
Don't give up
You know it's never been easy
Don't give up
'cause I believe there's a place
There's a place where we belong

Peter Gabriel ~ 'Here Comes The Flood'
Last night I had a fun night of viewing music videos! I started out watching a DVD that my son gave me of Peter Gabriel. It's a collection of Gabriel songs constructed into some of the most fantastic and unusual videos I have ever seen! Peter Gabriel (Genesis) is a unique and very talented singer/songwriter!
~~~
Later I found this on Youtube and wanted to share it here.
(this was not on my DVD)
I think it's superb!
Enjoy!
More about 4 0'clocks~
Since there was some interest in my 'Four O'clock' flower post yesterday, I'm doing a follow-up on this flower today.
Actually, I was curious , myself, about the Wild 4 O'clocks AND the
Garden varieties, so I did some searching. ( Also here and here)
~~Check the links for lots of interesting info and pictures!~~
I've always liked these little flowers and was happy when we moved here to see that they came up, wild, in various spots of our property! They grow along our property line and also in the little garden area in back of my house.
This garden is in remembrance of my mom so it's very fitting that they are growing here! The 4 O'clock was one of Mom's favorites - as it is mine, also!
I have never had the ones developed for the garden- only the wild kind!
~~~
Here are some more pics of my very own 4 O'clocks from my mom's garden ~ this little country flower that blooms only from late afternoon and onward through the night!
(It also blooms on very gloomy, overcast, days!)
These little flowers make me smile...especially the unpredictable color combinations you get from flower to flower ~ as you will see in my pictures here. I suppose to keep your true, solid, colors the plants would need to be kept separate in the planting areas, but mine are yellow next to dark pink so I often see the mixed up blooms, as shown here! :) I like them that way!
The light pink one has grown up away from the others and I DO want to keep that one separate! Isn't that a delicate little flower?
Oh!
And these flowers have a heavenly fragrance!

Sepia Scenes ~ May 28, 2009 (and UPDATE!)
Update:
A couple of folks have commented on the black & white calf in this sepia pic! :) I noticed that, too!
~The little calf refused to be converted to sepia and remained stark black & white!~
Can anyone explain this?
I sure can't!~

Raising The Flag
We always have a flag flying in our front yard. One of the first things Charles did when we moved here was to put up a very tall flag pole!
We've had to replace our flags many times over the years.
When they became torn and tattered, several were donated to our grandson, Zach's boy scout troop! The Boy Scouts dispose of old flags in the correct way in some of their ceremonies!
With recent winds and rain our current flag which we had up had become tattered around the edges ! Charles had taken it down just recently but we had not yet replaced it!
Charles has a very fine flag but it's one he has never wanted to use much. It was given to him by a good friend who died many years ago - he's very sentimental about such things.
SOOO...we had one other choice of flags to put up today... this 48 star flag that we bought awhile back at the flea market! Oh! It's a treasure too! :)
We hoped it wouldn't rain while this flag was up, but it did! We'll take it down after tomorrow and replace it with another one in a few days.
Here are Alli and Gabbo (that's Charlie) putting up our flag today!

Memorial Day Weekend
Memorial Day is a United States federal holiday observed on the last Monday in May.
( From Wikipedia )
Memorial Day
The gravestones at Arlington National Cemetery are graced by U.S. flags on Memorial Day.
Also called Decoration Day
Observed by United States
Date Last Monday in May
Observances Remembrance of American war dead
This is a picture of my husband and a friend in 1955. They were temporally assigned to Camp Kilmer, NJ for deployment overseas!
Here they are in NYC-Broadway and 42nd street...a night on the town before being shipped out to Casablanca, French Morocco.
He is STILL on the RIGHT, too! :) )
This would be a voyage of 9 hard days with most of the men suffering extreme seasickness! The ship they were on was a smaller ship for troop transport...very close quarters; and they were to encounter bad storms on this trip-adding to the dismal conditions.
This was the ship.
After 9 rough days they reached their destination.
This was my husband's first of 4 assignments to this part of the world during his 4 years in the Air Force. ( 2 different bases)
His job in the Air Force was to be as a fire and rescue specialist. Charles quickly rose in rank and became crew chief in charge of a work crew.
During that time period the need arose often for men trained in this kind of operations, as there were frequent plane crashes near and on the base. We (USA) maintained a heavy presence in that part of the world during that time period.
The name of the ship used in transport-USS Private William H. Thomas- caught my attention. I wondered about a ship being named for a Private.
I'm so glad I looked up the information on this!
This is a story that will make you cry (it did both Charles and me) and it will make you so very proud!
Read about this American Hero here!
God bless our brave men and women who are willing to fight for our country and our freedom!

Swing Dancing in NYC
My grandson Zach and his girlfriend, along with numerous others from Orlando, Fl, are in NYC this holiday weekend!
Zach and Ashley will be staying with her grandmother, in Queens, on this trip!
Zachary and Ashley are into Swing Dancing and belong to a group that meets and practices a couple times a week. They love it-have great fun doing it! Allison is looking forward to joining them in this activity when she moves down in August! (Alli will be going to college in Orlando and living in a dorm )
There will be dancing in Central Park tomorrow- if I'm remembering correctly! :)
I hope Zach is having a lot of fun!
I know he is! LOL- He's also into photography so he will come home with lots of interesting stuff to share, I'm quite sure!
