End of day...

Halloween night

Our day turned out very tame and quiet, after all!

I made a good chicken dinner and I made cupcakes ...but just Charles and me, Tina and Dan were here for dinner! My son, Chris and grandson Brian were both working. ( Tina worked too, but was off by dinner time.) Marc (Tina's husband) is on the road again - Crete trucker!

The Orlando 'Cats' couldn't be here ... (Tam, Terry and Zach)

Though I thought Alli would be here, she decided not to come - as she will have to drive up 2 days next week for doctor appointments ! Also, she needed to study for a big test on Monday.

Oh well- that's how it goes when kids grow up...jobs-school...all that stuff!

Alli sent these pics to her mom and gave me permission to put them here! This is the Halloween Costume Party she went to last night with her dance club group! She was 'Little Red Riding Hood!' Looks like they had fun!

Well, after dinner I got some vids of my monster visitors in action...They were loud and obnoxious for awhile!

Would like to show you but I don't know how to put a video on...(unless it's a Youtube!...lol-I need Alli for that!) Actually , you didn't miss much- just a lot of moaning and groaning and loud howls! Frankly, I'm ready to see these guys on their way!!
( does that sound mean spirited of me?)

It's weird where we are as we never get trick-or-treaters...I mean NONE!

Not at all like it was when my kids were growing up in our neighborhood in Miami. You probably know the kind of neighborhood...with houses built with barely 20 feet distance between them! It was a 'young' neighborhood when we moved there. Our kids grew up there and knew every other kid on the block! Trick -or- treating was fun for the kids in those days and ours and the neighbor kids would roam their world on Halloween night-with pillow cases for 'treat' bags! ( AND those pillow cases would be nearly full at the end!! haha)

Usually Charles and/or I would go with them...but then there would be the problem of - 'who will give out the candy at our house?' I remember once Charles got the idea of using the honor system for the candy...so what he did was he wrote a sign and posted it saying..."Please take just one piece of candy ( or whatever amount he said) and leave the rest! :) ... Can you believe when we got home that bowl was completely empty?? :) Lots of trick-or-treaters, I guess...or one or two
real hungry ones!! haha

Here's a pic of my pretty daughter and my handsome grandson tonight!

...and one of Charles watching the end of the Gator game...
(Another big win!)

Lol- and one picture of the witches...

Hard to tell which witch is the Halloween one! ;)

Have a good night, All!

'Gators are No. 1'

My son, Chris, said I HAVE to mention this...

My husband and son are huge Gator fans and I have to say this has been a super season for us here!
There are some happy guys in my world right now! ;)

Gators win BCS National Championship

BCS Championship
Florida 24 ~ Oklahoma 14

'Gators are No. 1' after swamping Oklahoma
Sooners' record offense stymied as Florida wins 2nd national title in 3 years

updated 1:00 a.m. ET, Fri., Jan. 9, 2009

MIAMI - The game defied expectations. Tim Tebow fulfilled them.

He rescued No. 1 Florida, running through and throwing over No. 2 Oklahoma for a 24-14 victory Thursday night that gave the Gators their second BCS championship in three years.

It was hardly a high-wattage matchup of Heisman winners — more a sloppy, choppy affair that the rough-and-tumble Tebow took over at the end.

The style won’t satisfy fans of Utah, Southern California and Texas, who all want to claim the top spot.

No matter to the Gators. They finished far ahead of the Utes in the final Associated Press poll early Friday, receiving 48 of 65 first-place votes.

“I’ll tell you, we’re going to enjoy a big win, we’re going to enjoy the national championship,” coach Urban Meyer said. “Let someone else worry about that. Gators are No. 1.”

Beaten out for the Heisman this season by Oklahoma quarterback Sam Bradford, Tebow outplayed him and was picked the game’s most outstanding player.

“I wanted to do whatever I could to help my team win this game, and if I was trying to run and run some people over, to get the crowd into it, to get the momentum, then that was what I was going to try to do,” Tebow said.

A ride in the country and the Reunion! ~ Post #6 ~

On Friday we left my brother's house pretty early and headed north to Athens.

Here are a few shots of the old town square of Athens. You still get a feel of the past here and I like that. This is where my husband and his family would come on Saturdays and later, in his teens, where C. would come with friends to hang out!

Note on some of the pics:

That old brick wall is fabulous! It's the exterior wall of one building and will be the interior wall of a little courtyard entrance to another shop - or restaurant, maybe! I just love old brick!!

~~~
The UG White Hardware is where Charles' bike came from. (the story of Jake, in several posts, starts -here!)
~~~

This whole town and all of this part of Alabama are BIG Alabama football fans, and you can see the evidence of it painted on most of the storefronts in town! Also on most North Alabama walls you will see pictures of Bear Bryant, the beloved , former Alabama coach!
( My brother's house has "Bear" on the wall!!)

~~~
That statue on the courthouse lawn is a civil war soldier!
~~~

I can imagine the men folk sitting on benches in front of the courthouse, whittling, as all men seemed to do in the past!
(Do men whittle these days? I don't think so!)

Charles says his dad, Mr. Boyd, referred to the gathering of whittling old men in front of the courthouse (of which he was one) as...the Dead Pecker Corner!!

LOL! I know- kinda off color...but I just report... you decide here! :)

~~~
~~~

We wanted to have time to ride out in the country to see some of the places of my husband's youth; not that there is much left except the old barns-and the memories! I love that the barns are left ...but I can see a decline in their conditions, from one year to the next!

For instance...this one!

This is the one Charles remembers as the Maples barn and was/is on the place of the over-seer of the farm that my husband's family rented, as well as several other farms in Mud Bottom!

~~~
Tomorrow I will conclude with a few more country scenes and the reunion pics!
~~
We're having all the kids here tomorrow- so I have stuff to do to prepare! :) Looking forward to a busy but happy day tomorrow!
Have a great Saturday!
Sunday News- (Farm and music and a visit)
Just after dinner last night my guys settled down to watch the football game- Miami Dolphins and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. My guys (husband and son) have always been, and will forever be, Dolphin fans! They became big fans in the early days-(when the Dolphins were new and my son Chris was just a kid ) and would go to a lot of games together during the years we lived in Miami!
Lol- I remember when the Dolphins returned from their Superbowl win against Washington Redskins (14-7) in 1973- after that fantastic 17-0 winning season of '72- we went to the airport in the middle of the night to join with, probably, hundreds of other fans to welcome them back home! It was an enthusiastic group of fans as I remember- with Charles, Chris and me, as exuberant as any of the others! Those were happy times! :)
...so-anyway-my guys are still big football fans and watch as often as they can. I'm not much of a fan these days.
~~~
While they watched the game I was into some music listening- which is among my favorite things to do these days!
...It was decided Pink Floyd would again be the star of the night! :) Ended up playing 'The Wall' AND 'Dark Side of the Moon!'

Great music - though depressing lyrics! It's true! Still, I'm often drawn to the music! It's all part of the music history that I am compelled to explore! ;) It's part of my mission!

And ~ I had a great time- thank you very much!!

~~~
Today was a bit sad as Charles had decided to take 3 calves to the market for tomorrow's auction! So- goodbye Cloud #9, Gypsy Rose, and Silver Bell! With the little girl calves I can manage to not feel TOO bad , as I imagine them being bought just for breeders! WELL...it could be true, ya know!! I hope so!
Here they are:
~~~

A little later in the day our granddaughter, Alli, came by to visit. Tina was working and Alli had the car and would pick her mom up after work in the late afternoon. Alli stayed for a nice, long, visit. We had snacks and cokes and coffee and lots of chit-chat! Also she showed me some little things I needed to know about blogging-picture sizing- etc!
(just things that grandkids know and Gingas don't know!)

~~~
Oh! And we looked at some Youtubes of her favorites - 'Plain White T's'. She showed me this vid of TOM doing a Beatles tune!
Pretty good, I say!
:) AND we made pictures while our girl was here, too!
Later we made plans to meet the girls at Shells for dinner!
Excellent!
All things considered it
has been a good weekend for us!
Hope yours was good too!
Love,
Junie
Everly Brothers (post #2 of today)
HEY!
Tonight I have been listening to this CD I bought for myself today! ... I guess I was just thinking of the past and it caught my eye-so I bought it! It has been very nice listening, tonight!
Were they just a tiny bit before ELVIS? Maybe...I need to read up on the history of both Everlys AND Elvis!
A few weeks back I had some chats about The Everly Brothers, with a music friend! We found several Videos on YouTube! That really took me back in time!! :) Was fun!
*******************
Other 'breaking news' at Ginga's house tonight~ my guys are happy with that game they're watching~ judging by the sounds I hear coming from the den!
~~~~College Football~~~~
Yep- it's just been reported to me that our Gators are leading at the half- time-34-14~over Ohio State! Yahoo!! ( CROSSING MY FINGERS) Hope they can pull this off!

********************

One more 'music note!' (haha)

When I started out to shop today I picked up my new Laurence Juber CD, which I got just recently, to take with me to play in the car. I love this more and more, each time I play it! This guy is just terriffic! He's truly a great guitarist- a 'Sweet Music Man!' This will be one CD I will play often for a long time to come! I can't imagine ever getting tired of hearing those Beatles tunes done by LJ...just his guitar...no singing necessary! ;) now- that is true talent!

(thanks to my music buddies who let me know about LJ's guitar music)

LOL!

~~~And that about covers it for tonight!~~~
