Shadow Shot Sunday-Nov 29, 2009
~~~
My new header is a picture of a little Christmas basket my mom made for me many years ago for one of my Christmas gifts! I've kept it all these years and still put it out each year when I decorate.
While making this header and putting it on I was remembering a basket I made of Mom's last roses...and thought it might work for my shadow shot!
Mom’s Last Roses
These are Mom’s last roses.
I kept a little part
of all the roses given,
from every grieving heart.
I handled them so gently
and dried them - as you see.
I found the perfect basket-
arranged them carefully.
I found the sweetest ribbon,
and made this fancy bow-
attaching it, expertly!
It had to be - just so!
It had to turn out special,
and easily convey…
how much I do still love her
and miss her every day!
These are Mom’s last roses.
They’ll always be a part
of all my memories of her
and the sorrow in my heart.
Our day_ Thanksgiving 2009 ( mostly for family )
We had a very nice day here.
All of the family were able to be together one more time-except for my son-in-law, Marc; he was not able to get home this time.
Oh...and we are adding one more member to our family. You will notice a new face in the family pictures I'm putting on this time. The new face is 'Joy,' soon to be my daughter-in-law! Chris and Joy are getting married in 2 weeks. No big wedding, but we will have a family celebration here at our place.
Joy is a sweet girl and her name fits her well! :)
Ruby Tuesday ~ Nov 24, 2009
~~~
I saw this guy recently on a "Knock-Out" rose bloom in my yard!
I had to knock him off...though I didn't have the heart to do more than send him on his way!

Rocker
June Kellum
Find out if you are a rocker with the Are You A Rocker Quiz
HaHa_ took the above from my FaceBook page.
~~~
Well, maybe this fact will help to elevate me to a 'Rocker Status!' ;)
Last night I did a lot of Who vid watching of some youtubes recommended by a good friend of mine!
Yes!!
I think The Who is the greatest Rock band ever!
~I just take the best of that era (the music) and ignore the bad things that evolved out of that time! (drugs-etc)~
~This is a very early performance...but of course Pete and Roger are still going strong- even after all these years!~
Poem: The Ones We Love
The Ones We Love
The years have gone so quickly.
Unseeing - unaware-
we stood in our own ignorance,
blind to what was there.
Basking in the moment,
of love's security;
not noticing the changes
we now so plainly see.
We thought because we loved them
and always let them know -
that fact would help in smoothing
the ways they chose to go.
They’re flung into life’s fickleness,
not tethered anymore.
Each day we see they’ve drifted
much farther than before.
We fight this helpless feeling...
no longer can deny…
that we can’t help them anymore,
no matter how we try.
Shadow Shot Sunday ~ Nov 22, 2009 (and my Grands)
~~~
At the top of my stairs is this picture of my grandparents_my Mom's mother and father.
'Big Pop' I knew and loved all my life, and he lived to a very old age . My grandmother,'Biggie,' passed away when I was only age 2 so I had no memories of her...but I loved her and felt I knew her through my Mom's memories and stories of her.
This was my mom's picture of her parents and I'm so happy that I have it now.
I like the way the shadow of the curtains looks on the wall by my old family picture.
It was an unplanned visit but luckily I had made a big pot of chili so we did ok! :) I also made white rice and had cheese to top it off! It was good!!
I got this picture of my 3 'Fahey' grands. I'm always happy to see them all together-these 3 siblings...but wished their cousin Zach was here too!
(I'm always missing someone...but that's life!)

Camera-Critters ~ Nov 14, 2009
~~~
This time mine are a couple of little guys who are not too appealing ~IMHO~
...And - although they did visit my place, in both instances they were very brief visits...and a bit strained!
#1
Bat
A while back, this guy flew down our chimney and across the room, landing on a book case. My husband called me in to see something, saying, "Bring your camera!" I had no idea what he wanted me to see...but it was this guy!
Needless to say I was very quick in getting just a couple of pics...not daring to try to get his face at all! My husband, then, picked him up with a towel and removed him to the orange trees in our back yard.
Shrew
Another day-not long after the Bat day- Charles came in and presented me with THIS strange little critter! Well, he didn't give him to me
(he was holding him with a heavy gloved hand )
but he asked me to find something to put him in. I had this plastic box which served our purpose, as it gave us a good view of him!
This is a shrew. I had never seen one but we had an idea of what it was and a search confirmed it. They live mostly underground-as moles do; and I believe they are related to moles but I'm not positive!
(LOL-That's why I'm leaving links so you can read about these critters for yourselves!)
This one appeared to have very sharp teeth and, obviously, sharp claws.
Charles handled this critter very carefully, and after we had a quick look, Charles let him go in our meadow at the edge of our yard!
That long snout and those claws are for digging and Charles said this critter was gone in a flash, after he set him free; straight down , underground!
Oh! Charles actually saved this little guys life, as he was trying to make it across our street and he's not equipped for moving on pavement. He was making no progress at all in moving himself along. Besides...he would have been smashed by traffic before he could have gotten across...even if he could have moved along!
(My husband is a hero!!)
:)
I'll give you one cute critter!
should balance out 2 - not so cute!
Right?
Limericks for Thanksgiving
The turkey is stuffed and is browning!
The pies with sweet cream get their crowning!
The potatoes are whipped
with parsley fresh snipped!
Not one of our faces are frowning!
~~
The cranberry sauce we did open,
this long held tradition-unbroken.
Our plates we hold ready!
The aroma is heady!
Our thanks for this meal have been spoken!
Truffles
This is something new to me....
Truffles!
NO-NO- I don't mean 'Chocolate truffles-the candy,' for -yes- I do know those truffles! :) I know them pretty well, in fact!
I mean the kind of truffle that is found underground among the roots of trees...
The other day Charles brought me these 2 objects that he found in the cow pasture, while digging and loading some dirt for the garden. He asked me if I knew anything about truffles, and added that he thought that's what these things were that he had dug up.
I had heard of them, of course, but had never seen them at all; in fact, had never researched them to see what they looked like.
Well, with the marvels of the Internet, I DID research them now- and immediately found *a lot of very interesting info about truffles!*
I'm still not convinced...but the pics look like what Charles found! He brought me 2 of these-one he had cut in half- to see what it was like inside.
What do you think? Is this truffles - or something else?
Maybe I should get me a Truffle Dog- or Truffle Pig to do some truffle sniffing out and digging for me! ;)
Check the link I left to read about truffles and see pictures!
