End of day...

Halloween night

Our day turned out very tame and quiet, after all!

I made a good chicken dinner and I made cupcakes ...but just Charles and me, Tina and Dan were here for dinner! My son, Chris and grandson Brian were both working. ( Tina worked too, but was off by dinner time.) Marc (Tina's husband) is on the road again - Crete trucker!

The Orlando 'Cats' couldn't be here ... (Tam, Terry and Zach)

Though I thought Alli would be here, she decided not to come - as she will have to drive up 2 days next week for doctor appointments ! Also, she needed to study for a big test on Monday.

Oh well- that's how it goes when kids grow up...jobs-school...all that stuff!

Alli sent these pics to her mom and gave me permission to put them here! This is the Halloween Costume Party she went to last night with her dance club group! She was 'Little Red Riding Hood!' Looks like they had fun!

Well, after dinner I got some vids of my monster visitors in action...They were loud and obnoxious for awhile!

Would like to show you but I don't know how to put a video on...(unless it's a Youtube!...lol-I need Alli for that!) Actually , you didn't miss much- just a lot of moaning and groaning and loud howls! Frankly, I'm ready to see these guys on their way!!
( does that sound mean spirited of me?)

It's weird where we are as we never get trick-or-treaters...I mean NONE!

Not at all like it was when my kids were growing up in our neighborhood in Miami. You probably know the kind of neighborhood...with houses built with barely 20 feet distance between them! It was a 'young' neighborhood when we moved there. Our kids grew up there and knew every other kid on the block! Trick -or- treating was fun for the kids in those days and ours and the neighbor kids would roam their world on Halloween night-with pillow cases for 'treat' bags! ( AND those pillow cases would be nearly full at the end!! haha)

Usually Charles and/or I would go with them...but then there would be the problem of - 'who will give out the candy at our house?' I remember once Charles got the idea of using the honor system for the candy...so what he did was he wrote a sign and posted it saying..."Please take just one piece of candy ( or whatever amount he said) and leave the rest! :) ... Can you believe when we got home that bowl was completely empty?? :) Lots of trick-or-treaters, I guess...or one or two
real hungry ones!! haha

Here's a pic of my pretty daughter and my handsome grandson tonight!

...and one of Charles watching the end of the Gator game...
(Another big win!)

Lol- and one picture of the witches...

Hard to tell which witch is the Halloween one! ;)

Have a good night, All!

Happy Halloween

Happy Halloween!

Only 2 of my 4 pumpkins became Jack-O-Lanterns!
Oh, well! That's the way it goes...

It is what it is - and as you get OLDER - you do what you can!
Still-I'm happy to have those 2 faces to look at! ;} I made one smiley and one kinda mean looking!

LOL- They look like me and Charles-yes??

Now- gotta go make some cup-cakes for later when the kids will be here!

Happy Day to you all- and a spooky Halloween night!

Speaking of......

I saw this spooky reflection on my stair well wall again yesterday...He's back just in time for Halloween!

Roasting Pumpkin Seeds!

Roasting Pumpkin Seeds

By: Allrecipes Staff

~~Visit this site for more interesting info and recipes!~~

http://allrecipes.com/HowTo/Roasting-Pumpkin-Seeds/Detail.aspx

~~~
From the site:
When you're carving your Halloween pumpkins, don't throw away the seeds!
Roasted pumpkin seeds have a nutty flavor and are packed with protein and fiber. Pumpkin seeds are delicious toasted and salted, but they're even better flavored with sweet and savory spices.
How to Roast Pumpkin Seeds
  1. Rinse pumpkin seeds under cold water and pick out the pulp and strings. (This is easiest just after you've removed the seeds from the pumpkin, before the pulp has dried.)
  2. Place the pumpkin seeds in a single layer on an oiled baking sheet, stirring to coat. If you prefer, omit the oil and coat with non-stick cooking spray.
  3. Sprinkle with salt and bake at 325 degrees F until toasted, about 25 minutes, checking and stirring after 10 minutes.
  4. Let cool and store in an air-tight container.
~~~

Ok-I admit I have never, in my long life, roasted pumpkin seeds-although I carve pumpkins for Halloween every year!

Thanks to our blog friend Pea I'm gonna try them this time!
(visit Pea-she's on my side bar.)

I found this cool site that tells how to roast the seeds - and a whole lot more! Check it out! (at top of this post)

BTW~ I just carved 2 pumpkins...the other 2 may not get carved!! :) It's quite a task for an old, tired lady! :( Well, at least I have 2! I'll make pics of them lighted, later tonight!

Will let you know how the pumpkin seed roasting goes, too!

They're back!!!

OK-

I have been expecting my house to be invaded with some of these weird looking folk....I was just unsure how many there would be this time ...or just when they might show!

In years past -around Halloween- my house has been , literally, overrun with some very unsavory characters ~ to say the least!

I've come to expect it...and I just try to co-exist with them for a few days; that seems the best way to go!

Knowing all this, I was not at all surprised last night to see this strange couple appear on the edge of my kitchen counter-along with that smiley ghost.

I remembered them from last year and they DO seem harmless-if a bit strange; really quite friendly looking, though, with those goofy smiles!

The ghost seemed on good terms with the couple-and he didn't seem offended to pose in front of that sink full of dirty dishes; a point in his favor, in my book!

This couple - and the ghost -gave me an even more radiant smile when I pointed my camera at them! :)

Later in the evening some other characters began to congregate along the counter edge...until it was full up...standing room only, I'd say!

I managed to get some shots of the newcomers... (after all-it is MY HOUSE, you guys!!) although I was reluctant to venture too close.

I have read the life stories of each of these dudes-and their stories are NOT what one would consider a 'Happy Fairy Tale' type story...so it seems prudent to use caution when dealing with them, don't you agree?

They didn't seem too thrilled with my picture taking...nary a smile to be seen! And you should have heard the noise they were making...Seemed like they had been rehearsing those eerie sounds all year- just for me...and just to scare me to pieces, I suspect!

( Oh, but they underestimate Junie Rose...I've been doing this for many a year!! Once I even had Freddy Kruger to deal with...)

Speaking of those scary sounds...maybe- just maybe...I can get a video of them in action! That would be cool!! Am I brave enough to try that??

In the corner across the room is where the 3 witches met!

Well, to be honest- these ladies are not in the least scary to me...especially that pretty blond one in the middle! She seems to use her beauty for attention... You know the type that is so obviously aware of her own attractiveness that it can't be missed by anyone...
( but -how do I know?...she may have some powerful magical abilities... maybe I'm being catty here!! :))
All I know for sure is... she seems to have a calming influence over the other 2 old crones- rendering them all quite harmless, in my opinion!

...On the other hand-perhaps it's the absence of their cats that have, seemingly, stripped them of their full magical powers this time! They all DO have their brooms, I noticed- but no cauldron boiling ...with all the vile things that I've heard can be found in them!

I'm just as happy to have them just stand silently there -without any magic spells being cast- the time they are here!

(...and let Blondie make eyes at Frank or the others if she so wishes...)

When I awoke this morning I really wasn't much surprised to see that the goofy pumpkin couple had moved to my front entrance shelf! This seems a better place for ones so happy-and as you can see they really are friendly and harmless- just a little odd!

On our way out to shop Charles and I paused a moment to get photographs with the current scare crow guy! He's just one in a long line of his family who have come around to spend time on our hay bales each Halloween! Last year his cousin was here. ..or maybe his brother! Definitely there was a strong family resemblance between all of the guys we've met here on our Hay!

Oh my! It just occurred to me that the word could be getting around that I am a really flirty old lady...as I DO always want to cozily pose with these guys...each and every one!

My goodness! I hope they know it's all in the fun spirit of Halloween!

Joke!!

I just got this joke from one of my Blog and FB buddies ~ Sally of 'Whispering Hope' ~

( visit Sally here! )
http://www.whispering-hope.blogspot.com/

Hope she won't mind that I'm passing this on here on my blog! It's sort of fitting for the holiday...well-you know...with the BROOM factor!! :)

Anyway, I got a kick out of it ~ was 'swept away' with it, really!! ;)

Hope some of you will find it cute and funny too! Hey-we all need a chuckle, now and then!

Thanks, Sally!

From Sally~

HAVE A GREAT DAY!!

Sally

Two brooms were hanging in the closet and after a while they got to know each other so well, they decided to get married.

One broom was, of course, the bride broom, the other the groom broom.

The bride broom looked very beautiful in her white dress. The groom broom was handsome and suave in his tuxedo. The wedding was lovely.

After the wedding, at the wedding dinner, the bride-broom leaned over and said to the groom-broom, "I think I am going to have a little whisk broom!"

"IMPOSSIBLE !" said the groom broom.

"WE HAVEN'T EVEN SWEPT TOGETHER!"

............ ............ ..............

Sounds to me like she's ........been ....sweeping around!!!

:)

Hope you are all having a beautiful pre-Halloween-fall day!

Citrus is in!!

~~~
This is the first of our citrus fruit to ripen! This is a kind of Tangerine- a cross between an Orange and Tangerine, actually, and I'm not sure of the name.
I only know it's yummy and very easy to peel!
Needless to say,
"I'm enjoying a couple of these each day!"
Lucy playing dead!
:) ...a silly vid we made a little while ago.
Alli is here , at her home, just for over night. She drove up after a late afternoon class and will be here for an early doctor's appointment- then will have to get back for an exam in one of her classes in the early afternoon tomorrow.
I was very happy she and her mom could come up for a little visit! LOL - so was Lucy!
Today's Flowers ~ Oct 25, 2009
~~~

*Go here* to find more flowers around the world.

These flower pictures are some I got when we were recently in south Florida for the wedding we attended there. They were part of the landscaping at our hotel!

This is called Ixora and is a very popular hedge plant grown in south Florida and many other tropical climes!

I, personally, never grew any of these plants when we lived in Miami. I don't know how this one escaped us- because, as you can see, it is a very attractive flowering plant!
(We had Hibiscus hedges and our space became limited)

The color of these flowers is just perfect for this holiday/fall season! :)

Ixora

Enjoy!

I took this shot of a window of our little rental house sometime earlier this year- when we were doing some painting and sprucing up of the place.

The scene outside is of a giant Live Oak tree, draped with Spanish Moss!

I like the angle and the blackness - contrasted with the outside view!

Looks kind of fitting for the season, I think; especially with the Spanish Moss!

This is a wonderful song by our beloved , Dan Fogelberg
