More on Jackson Browne~
After I posted the vid by Jackson Browne, 'These Days,' on Facebook, I had this conversation with my sister there!
~~~ Joy says:
I still am fond of his music too :)
June says:
Joy,
Well, I'm more than just fond of it!
LOL-
When I get into his music again after not listening to it for awhile- I just want to hear more and more....
Remember, you and I discovered Dan Fogelberg and Jackson Browne around the same time...
...We would listen to them a lot when you came to visit those summers-from Pa) But, I must say, it's his earlier music I liked the best!
I didn't like him becoming so political with his lyrics in some of his later albums... and in fact his popularity became less, the more political he became!
As song writers go- there's none better-IMO.
(or probably none as good!)
I was so happy he got inducted into the Rock Music Hall of Fame for songwriter in recent years- it was well deserved!
Junie
Joy says:
Sure I remember. thanks to Chris :)
I think J B's politics and probably his other beliefs are incompatible with mine - but anyway, he didn't ask me to marry him -
LOL !!
His songs are wonderfully constructed and performed, but many are 'downbeat'. Enough depression going around in real life (for me)
But, yeah, he's still good ; I love him!
June says:
Just realistic, IMO_ and I like that about his music!
LOL-
If I start getting too depressed I back off for awhile.
Honestly, I can't think of anyone who has written more meaningful songs than Jackson Browne.
lol- and PS-He didn't ask ME to marry him either!
(His loss-haha!!)
Joy says: :D ~~~
:) So- one more Jackson Browne song for today! (Then I promise I'll back off for awhile- before we all get way too deep in depression!) To me his lyrics reflect real life and -sorry- but life does have sad moments!
Jackson Browne-One of my top loves in 70s music!
Enjoy this with me!!
These Days
Jackson Browne
Well I've been out walkin'
I don't do that much talkin' these days
These days
These days I seem to think a lot
About the things that I forgot to do
And all the times I had the chance to
And I had a lover
And it's so hard to risk another these days
These days
Now if I seem to be afraid ... to live the life I have made in song
Well it's just that I've been losin' ... so long
Well I'll keep on movin' ... movin' on
Things are bound to be improvin' these days
One of these days
These days I'll sit on corner stones
And count the time in quarter tones to ten ... my friend
Don't confront me with my failures
I had not forgotten them
The ice is thin come on dive in underneath my lucid skin the cold is lost, forgotten Hours pass days pass time stands still light gets dark and darkness fills my secret heart forbidden... I think you worried for me then the subtle ways that I'd give in but I know you liked the show tied down to this bed of shame you tried to move around the pain but oh your soul is anchored The only comfort is the moving of the river You enter into me, a lie upon your lips offer what you can, I'll take all that I can get only a fool's here... I don't like your tragic sighs as if your god has passed you by well hey fool that's your deception your angels speak with jilted tongues the serpent's tale has come undone you have no strength to squander The only comfort is the moving of the river You enter into me, a lie upon your lips offer what you can, I'll take all that I can get only a fool's here to stay only a fool's here to stay only a fool's here...
I will be the answer
At the end of the line
I will be there for you
While you take the time
In the burning of uncertainty
I will be your solid ground
I will hold the balance
If you can't look down
If it takes my whole life
I won't break, I won't bend
It will all be worth it
Worth it in the end
Cause I can only tell you what I know
That I need you in my life
When the stars have all gone out
You'll still be burning so bright
Cast me gently
Into morning
For the night has been unkind
Take me to a
Place so holy
That I can wash this from my mind
The memory of choosing not to fight
If it takes my whole life
I won't break, I won't bend
It will all be worth it
Worth it in the end
'Cause I can only tell you what I know
That I need you in my life
When the stars have all burned out
You'll still be burning so bright
Cast me gently
Into morning
For the night has been unkind
I love fruits-any and all. These are some that I bought today. I sampled a couple already and-YES- they once again lived up to my expectations!
(A banana was especially good with a couple of chocolate chip cookies along with it! lol!)
There is another fruit I've been using a lot of lately-lemons! I don't have a pic of a whole fruit but we all know what a lemon looks like! :)
Here is the way I've been using them this summer...I mix up a jug of Crystal Light Lemonade mix as directed...I then slice one whole lemon and sprinkle Splenda on each slice (both sides) and drop the fresh lemon slices into the drink mix in the pitcher.
WOW! This makes a world of difference! Makes such a refreshing summer drink and looks so pretty! Another good thing...depending on how quickly your drink gets used...these same slices can be used in another 2 or 3 jugs of lemonade!(or more)
My husband likes to eat the slices when I finally think I need to start fresh again! :) He says they are delicious that way!
Last time,though,I put them aside to dry for about 3 days. Today I laced them together with craft- dried grasses.
(not sure what it's called)
I do like the way it looks! I hung it in my kitchen and made it the 'Star' of my MYM post this time! :)
So-I say-
"If Walmart sells you a lemon ~ Make Lemonade!" :)
In April of this year my husband and I had planned a little trip in celebration of our 49th anniversary... Well-that didn't happen as Charles became ill and ended up in the hospital for a few days!
The hospital staff arranged a fine anniversary dinner for us - a complete surprise for me!
Yes-my header pic is pretty....but it clashes so much with my template-it hurts my eyes!! :) ...but I'm afraid to try and change that...lest I mess up-BIG TIME...sooo- we'll just have to put up with this clashing of colors for a few days! lol
~~~
Yesterday Alli came up to tell us 'bye' before going back to Orlando to get settled in for the next term at UCF.
She left today. Tina, of course, went down also, to help move her stuff back. Alli called us and said she loves her place this time-says it's AWESOME! It's a fully equipped, apartment style dwelling for 4 girls-2 bedroom-2 baths.
When C. brought that plant in for me to see we both felt a familiarity to it...It was kinda weird because neither of us could capture our memories/knowledge for this plant..but we both felt we had seen it before-also the smell of the leaves seemed familiar to us.
One of my readers left a comment letting me know the name she knows it by.
Oh those! We call those Ampalaya. They are food for diebetic though. Have a beautiful Tuesday. ~~
OK-I was excited to get this info and of course went to search out more information about this plant.
~
I found~
another name for this plant is 'Bitter Melon.'
This is some info on Wikipedia.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bitter_melon
~After learning this, Charles and I became concerned that this plant may have been planted by our daughter-in-law, Joy, as a veggie to use...and that it was NOT a wild plant at all like we had thought it to be!~
LOL-OK-later that night I talked to my D-I-L ( My new D-I-L who is a Filipino girl) and-indeed- she knew all about this plant and had grown it from seeds she had got from a friend!
The name she knows it by is 'Bitter Squash.'
Oh, my! So we had messed up- but Joy and I had a good laugh over it! :) Luckily, C. didn't remove the plants- just the fruit to show me!
...so...the feeling of having known this plant before- or one closely related- kept gnawing at my memories... I decided to search out 'Florida Vines.' I had almost immediate results in this journey! I found this!
...And then Charles and I both remembered a very similar problem vine we had had in Miami that kept growing up among our Hibiscus hedge. I remembered this but since the fruits were much smaller didn't make the connection that it is the same plant- or at least a very close relative!
~~
This plant seems to have many uses and is beneficial in a lot of ways ... also-parts of it can be toxic...so my first impression was not really that far off!
Only one of the fruits C. picked to show me was at the edible stage...when they turn yellow they are only good for the seeds.
Anyway-I have the seeds and will save them for next year!
~~OK-then~ THIS is one reason I like blogging and the Internet!! There's a whole world of knowledge at your fingertips!!~~
Well, I'm a little late but I hope I can get this in!
Finally I have a water lily bloom in my pond-the first one this year!
I went out and got some pics. I love the water drops on the flower and the reflections and shadows in the pond ~ and the bright yellow color! I think it's very beautiful-don't you?
Lol- This would have worked for several of the picture memes I like to do...
was one of the most popular American singers of the 20th century. A cultural icon, he is widely known by the single name Elvis. He is often referred to as the "King of Rock and Roll" or simply "the King".
I was a teen when Elvis came on the scene- so-YES-he was a big deal to me and most young people of those times. I remember well, going to see this movie with this song 'Jailhouse Rock.'
I followed his career over the years and was very saddened when he died so young.
~~
Recently I watched a video with a friend, of The Who performing a song written with Elvis in mind ~ 'Real Good Looking Boy!'
Many songs have been written about Elvis or inspired by Elvis. I love this one by The Who and listen to it often.
Elvis certainly was a 'Real good looking boy' in his early years!
This is our Alli ~then and now~ always Mellow Yellow.
Our granddaughter was like a ray of sunshine in our lives as a baby~
she still is!
Alli will be going back to college in Orlando next weekend. She came up to show us her new bike which she will need this term for getting around campus ~ as her classes are not as near to her dorm as last time.
